The Southern PrinceChapter 7

Editors: MaryJ and Zinan

Viramalla and Sui Junhui walked in the chrysanthemum garden after breakfast. “What has Your Highness planned for today?” Sui Junhui asked eagerly. Viramalla glanced at him lightly before replying. “Nothing much. I just thought it would be good to stroll around the market streets.” iVTKf2

“Of course. Your Highness should come and see them. Right now the morning market would have started. It would be really fun. And whilst we’re at it, your Highness can also try our country’s food. ”

Although not many people had seen Viramalla, he was still required to wear a mask as his unique facial features would easily reveal that he was not Chinese, making it rather easy for the people to connect the dots from there. Sui Junhui on the other hand did not need to cover his face as not many people knew of him.

It was a little crowded in the market so Sui Junhui took hold of Viramalla’s hand in his own naturally. Viramalla looked at their intertwined hands, his eyes suddenly revealing a subtle softness as he let the nostalgia wash over him. They continued walking through the market streets for a good while when Sui Junhui stopped abruptly, finally realizing his action. He then carefully looked at Viramalla and said cautiously, “Forgive me Your Highness. There were a lot of people just now and I didn’t want Your Highness to get lost so I suddenly held Your Highness’s hand. It is very easy to lose one another in the market. I hope Your Highness does not mind.” C7njcL

Viramalla didn’t say anything. He just nodded his head thoughtfully. It was then that Sui Junhui relaxed and continued walking. But he couldn’t help but feel perplexed inside. Why did his act of holding the Pallavan prince feel so natural? He felt as if he had done this deed plenty of times before but yet, he couldn’t quite put a finger on it.

For an entire morning, the two strolled around the market, and Sui Junhui, who promised to take him to the food stalls, introduced Viramalla to anything and everything in their sights. Chu Qin and Chu Yu who saw this scene couldn’t help but find it amusing. Although His Highness the crown prince was not a cold person, he wasn’t this talkative either. It was as if as soon as he saw the Pallavan prince, he had forgotten all about their surroundings and got along with him very naturally. It was like they had a mutual understanding or something.

Sui Junhui could tell whether the Pallavan prince was interested in anything by just looking at his eyes. Viramalla didn’t even have to open his mouth. Ironically, Sui Junhui, who took him to the food court, was more excited to try the Chinese street foods than Viramalla. He would not stop talking about it. They went to a small stall and sat inside. Sui Junhui ordered two bowls of wonton noodle soup, four steamed buns and a jar of rice wine. “Your Highness, these steamed buns have been stuffed with meat and vegetable filling. It has been made by combining meat that is half fat and half flesh to create the most tender filling. The meat even includes drained and chopped shrimps and pork. The wonton noodle soup over here also tastes really authentic. They simmer the chicken broth particularly well so that there will not be any fishy smell when we eat. The noodles are then cooked thoroughly so that they are very soft to eat. Your Highness will certainly enjoy them.” Sui Junhui continued to ramble on like a child who was showing off his precious toys to his new friend. Very soon, their food was served and Sui Junhui took his chopsticks and began to eat. Then he suddenly realised that the Pallavan prince would not know how to use chopsticks but when he turned to teach him, he was shocked to see Viramalla skilfully using the chopsticks and eating without any difficulties. He found that Viramalla did not look like he was eating this food for the first time. He was quite curious about how Viramalla knew how to use chopsticks? He himself had trouble adapting to a new technique today morning. Even if Viramalla was skilled, it should have taken him some time to use them properly if he were doing it for the first time. But from the way Viramalla was eating, if he hadn’t known that he was a Pallavan prince, he would’ve assumed that this man was just an ordinary commoner. He didn’t even have any curiosity in his eyes. He was eating like he was already used to it. Sui Junhui could not help himself and asked, ” Your Highness, you handle your chopsticks quite skilfully for someone who does not have any experience.” Viramalla was taken back for a moment. Then he nonchalantly replied, “I practiced my chopstick skills when I was still on the ship.” That should serve as a believable excuse and from the looks of it, Sui Junhui seemed to have bought his lie. Just as they were in the middle of eating they heard a commotion. It turned out the second Pallavan prince also came for a stroll. The only difference was he did not bother to hide his identity and came as himself. When Yi Qian saw their country’s unreliable prince, he was enraged.

How could he do this to him!

The prince got the quiet and well-behaved Pallavan whereas he was stuck with a complainer. This prince would not stop talking about how different his country was from theirs. He would even start to complain about the weather being too cold and what not! He would not stop complaining for even a minute. When he first went to the Apricot courtyard to look for him and saw Simha was already waiting for him, he actually thought that this prince alone without Viramalla was quite handsome! Clearly, it was just the face that was going for him.

  1. That second prince is nothing but trouble.

So they do know themselves from before. Why does Viramalla seem to remember but Sui Junhui does not?
