Translator's Note

Chiyou is a mythological warrior who fought the Yellow Emperor. He was the leader of the Jiuli Tribe.

Translator's Note

A jun is an ancient measure of weight in China. Baidu says 1 jun is equivalent to 30 jin. 1 jin is a ½ kg, so Lou Jing’s drawing a bow with the same force that would be exerted by a 45kg weight.

Translator's Note

Martial arts are usually divided into “Internal” and “External” martial arts. The Internal Martial Arts are those that are passed to exclusive people within families or sects, and are not taught to all and sundry. The gongfa in Internal Martial Arts is usually guarded jealously by the family/sect. The External Martial Arts are taught to all and sundry, and are usually far less powerful than the Internal Martial Arts.

Translator's Note

Wang is a king or a prince. In this case, it’s a prince. Ye is a respectful mode of address. Kind of like “sir”.

Translator's Note

In ancient China, a prince that has come of age is called a Wang, which technically means “King”. This is a rank above a Duke but lower than the Emperor. Sort of like a vassal king, but not exactly; vassal kings usually were not related to the Emperor by blood. Wangs usually are part of the Imperial family. Being made a Wang also gives you independence – as a Wang, you can leave the palace to build your own residence.

  1. I just found out that the author also made “wife is first” which is my fav novel right now!! Author is a good one hehehe ANDDD the fact that the other name for this novel is “husband is last” is 🤭

  2. I just realize, Lou Jing here is well, kind of would be the Gong or Seme, right? His interaction with the Crown Prince is really amusing, and refreshing! I like how witty, romantic, and straightforward he is to show off his affection! Something like, snuggling to the Crown Prince’s arms, holding his hands, draping on his shoulder, etc. Like, usually seme or Gong in other novels had always been described as someone who will only touch the Shou when they’re “thirsty”, lol. So, I really, really appreciate it when I see a Seme or Gong who can flaunt his love and affection freely, by those little romantic gestures, without them in the state of being horny, LOL
  3. I think I’ve been too jaded by previous court novels that I think every character is out to get the two main ones. Empress…suspicious. Nice sickly brother….suspicious. Random geese picking an interesting place to die…suspicious 😅

  4. Beansprout!! The three jun weight of the bow doesn’t refer to the physical weight of the actual bow 😂😂😂 Bows have something called a “draw weight”, which refers to the amount of weight you need to pull to get the bow to “full draw” (pulled back all the way). Different draw weights cause the arrows to have a different amount of force when released. Higher draw weight = more power behind the arrow. A 35lb/15kg bow could kill a rabbit, but wouldn’t kill larger game like deer, which requires around 50lbs/23kg. So a draw weight of 77lbs/35kg could pretty much kill any animal, including bears, and also means our Lou Jing is strong af~

P.S. Thank you for the TL, I’m greatly enjoying it!
