“Mouton 2000?” Xiao Qishen looked at the red bottle in his hand. “The red wine of Mouton Winery, one of Bordeaux’s top five wineries?” Such a bottle of red wine was nothing for him, but it couldn’t have been easy for Shan Yatong to be able to buy such a bottle. If he remembered correctly, the market price for Mouton 2000 is around 20,000RMB. Although it wasn’t comparable to Lafite 2000, it was still good quality wine. He didn’t know how determined Shan Yatong had to be to buy this bottle of red wine. zc9dAl

“All right, so don’t say so much nonsense. Regardless of whatever wine it is, just open it.” Lin Yuxin grabbed the bottle out of Xiao Qishen’s hands. She uncorked it, and without even smelling it, started pouring it directly into a wine glass.

Xiao Qishen shrugged, and allowed Empress Lin to pour the wine without care for her ladylike image.

Shan Yatong brought in a plate of fruits and small snacks, setting them on the table. He sat down smoothly, and picked up a glass of red wine, swirling it.

“Mouton 2000 is the most expensive red wine I have here,” he said. He looked at the corner of the living room where the wine cabinet was, which had almost ten bottles of red wine. “Even the landlord’s home has no surplus of food.” LPh p2

“Damn kid, you’re so stingy!” Lin Yuxin picked up a glass of wine to sip at. She frowned slightly. “Do you think drinking red wine is like love? If the timing isn’t right, then it isn’t any good?” When she said this, she was looking at Xiao Qishen.

Xiao Qishen chuckled, holding his glass without answering.

It seemed as if she wasn’t really trying to get an answer. Lin Yuxin drained her glass, and poured for herself again. She laughed softly. “But that way of thinking isn’t right. Once, I waited for the best time to taste the wine, but the wine glass broke, and there was nothing left.” Holding up her wine glass, through the red liquid she could see the faces of two equally brilliant men distorted into one. [T/N: she’s confusing Jing Anjue and Shan Yatong while staring at her wine]

Drinking from her glass again, Lin Yuxin sneered, “No matter how good-looking a man is, even with this red wine, he can only play in a horror movie.”

“That’s because there are no men in the world that meet your eyes.” Xiao Qishen sipped lightly from his glass of wine. “Yuxin, people have to think about the future.”

Between Lin Yuxin and Xiao Qishen, there wasn’t any of the expected awkwardness between a couple after they’ve broken up. The complete ordinary and blandness between them gave Shan Yatong a surreal feeling.

Taking out a disc and playing light music, he leaned against the window and looked up at the sky. “I really don’t understand why so many people live and die for the illusion of love.” Han Jing, Shan Yatong, and that crazy woman.

He remembered that night. When the thunderstorm hit, he drank the red wine that had been poured by the woman. She was smiling wildly, hugging him and whispering, I love you… ViF5NE

He even remembered that the wine was a 1982 Lafite, one of his favourite red wines at the time. So he didn’t feel much regret, dying from a glass of poisoned Lafite.

“You don’t believe in love?” Xiao Qishen watched the young man standing in front of the window, and his heart trembled slightly.

“Isn’t it sad that you don’t even believe in love?” He looked at the young man as if he was imploring him to understand the importance of love.

The teenager left the window, and took a slight step forward. He could see there was nothing but indifference on Shan Yatong’s face. “Isn’t it more pathetic for guys who believe in love, but don’t have it?”

“Yes,” Xiao Qishen said with a smile, and covered his eyes. “It’s pathetic for someone like that.” “Yes, those who love and cannot be loved are even more miserable.”

“We are all pathetic,” Lin Yuxin said, who had already finished several glasses in succession. She poured more for herself, and sarcastically said, “But I do not regret it. I only regret that I did not confess my love to him when he was still alive.” w2gMK

Xiao Qishen moved his hand from his eyes. He looked at the tipsy Lin Yuxin. Over the past few years, he had always guessed that Lin Yuxin had kept a treasured person in her heart, but she had never mentioned it, and he never asked. He didn’t expect her to so easily speak of it today.

“Yatong, you know, very early on I found a hint of him in you.” Lin Yuxin held her glass of wine, and smiled weakly. “The way he walked, the way he smiled, and the deeply affectionate performance of his smile.”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Continuing to pour herself another glass, she looked at the teenager bathed in sunlight. “Yatong, your temperament has changed drastically since you attempted suicide. Even this room is decorated in his style.” Downing the entire glass, her eyes were already filling with tears. “Jing-shixiong, it’s you, isn’t it? Is it you?”

She looked steadily at the teenager, her voice trembling. “It’s you, right?” D8FPzi

The room fell silent, aside from the lilting sounds of a piano echoing through the living room, soft and comforting.

“Yuxin-jie, you’re drunk.” Shan Yatong smiled as he approached the sofa. The pupils of his brown eyes were calm and unruffled. “I’m Shan Yatong.”

Lin Yuxin quietly looked at the smiling teenager. Averting her gaze, she snorted. “I can’t pour a thousand glasses,” she said, pointing at the already empty wine bottle. “However much wine you still have, take it all out. We’re not leaving without getting drunk.”

Putting down the glass, Shan Yatong unbuttoned his cuffs. “Fine. Rest at my place if you get too drunk, I have a guest room.” After that, he turned around and took out the ten bottles from the wine cabinet. He smiled and said, “I would appreciate it if you remembered to return my red wine later.” M6THzY

Opening a bottle of ‘95 Latour, he did not wait for the best time to drink it. He poured it straight into three glasses. Picking up a glass, he drained it. Shaking the empty wine glass, he said, “It’s really not as good when you don’t wait the full ten minutes, but it’s not bad.”

“Looks like I’ve met two cows chewing on peonies today.” Xiao Qishen joked while drinking the entire glass of his own wine just like Shan Yatong.

“Get lost with your peony-chewing cows.” Lin Yuxin pushed her empty glass in front of Shan Yatong, not even sparing a glance to Xiao Qishen. “Pour the wine.”

The red liquid splashed against the edge of the glass, making a sound. Shan Yatong watched the woman across him drink from her glass. Her eyelids were starting to droop, and she was unconsciously rubbing the rim of the glass. 2DtxrA

The sound of the piano had been echoing. It was just that, the piano sounds were full of memories that won’t fade, sorrow, and despair.

Casting a sidelong glance at the stereo, Shan Yatong walked over and was about to turn it off. A hand stopped him. Confused, he looked up and Xiao Qishen was smiling at him.

“Don’t turn it off. Isn’t it good to listen to music while sipping wine?” Xiao Qishen took out another disc. “If you don’t like it, just put this one on.”

Shan Yatong watched his movements quietly until a familiar song came on. Then Shan Yatong looked away. “You don’t even know who he is, but you’re listening to his songs?” aCoeXk

“I know, Jing Anjue,” Xiao Qishen said. He swirled his glass, and met Shan Yatong’s eyes with a smile. “The man who once stood at the top of the entertainment world.”

Hearing the name buried in her heart, the already drunk Lin Yuxin looked in their direction. “Jing-shixiong is the most outstanding artist. In comparison, Emperor Xiao, you’re still far from him.”

Xiao Qishen rubbed his forehead and sighed helplessly. He looked sideways at Shan Yatong, seemingly with a hint of pity. “I’ll say, just how powerful is that man to be able to affect so many people?”

Shan Yatong smiled faintly. “An already dead man, that’s all.” Going to Lin Yuxin, he removed the glass of wine from her hand. With a slight sigh, he picked her up and headed for the guest room. ZlG CA

Covering Lin Yuxin with the blanket, he was just about to leave when a slender white hand reached out and pulled his sleeve. Surprised, he looked at the woman lying down with her eyes closed.

“Jing-shixiong, I like you…” the soft trembling confession was particularly clear in the spacious and empty room.

Looking at her wrist, something in Shan Yatong’s eyes tensed up.

Standing at the entrance, Xiao Qishen watched Shan Yatong gently pry her hand off, and then straightened the blanket over her. He said, in a gentle tone, “Yuxin-jie, you’re drunk.” Taking a step back, until he was a safe distance away from where she wouldn’t be able to grab him, he looked at her with misty eyes. “But I’m sure he already knows about your feelings. So, get a good night’s sleep.” od4mGu

Walking into the room, Xiao Qishen pulled the curtains shut to block out the sunlight. He looked at Shan Yatong. “Come on, let’s keep drinking.”

Back in the living room, Shan Yatong sipped his wine. His cheeks were already flushed pink, and the stereo was playing songs from the former peak of his popularity. For some reason, a phrase kept circling his ears, irritating him.

He frowned slightly. “I don’t want to listen to this man’s song anymore. Change it.”

Xiao Qishen smiled and stood up to replace it with the light music from before. He looked at the young man on the sofa. Perhaps he wasn’t aware, but just a moment ago, there was no hint of the usual restraint of his aura. Was he actually revealing a glimpse of his arrogance? mRqspe

Although he was sitting next to the young man whilst drinking and listening to songs, even that could satisfy him. He couldn’t help but smile bitterly at the thought. It was one of those things he would not have imagined about himself.

Although Shan Yatong’s face hadn’t changed much, Xiao Qishen could faintly sense that he was in a bad mood. He looked at the empty wine bottle on the coffee table. Putting down his glass, he looked at Shan Yatong. “What are you thinking about?”

The young man looked up at him with hazy eyes. He froze slightly. He said, “What am I thinking about?” He frowned in embarrassment, surprisingly looking a little cute with that. “Thinking about previous incarnations. Do you believe in it?” He smiled and looked away first, sipping from his glass. “In this world, even if the sun rises every day, there will never be a repeated day. How can there be repeating people.”

“Maybe because of nostalgia, we invest our emotions into seeing similar people or things.” Xiao Qishen leaned against the sofa, smirking. “Isn’t it normal to be nostalgic for old feelings?” AJMbGf

Shan Yatong put his glass down. His clearly intoxicated eyes carried a penetrating strength. “But why do you need to persuade me of a statement that your own heart does not agree with?”

“I just think it is better to have a flower than to have no flower at all.” Without retorting, Xiao Qishen looked at the young man. “If you like it, you should fight for it without flinching and don’t let yourself have a chance to regret.”

Shan Yatong closed his eyes, and leaned back on the sofa. He murmured in a daze. “Indeed, regret of that kind is the most useless thing to exist…”

Translator's Note

This part is a little confusing, probably because she’s drunk. It sounds like she’s talking directly to Jing Anjue, saying “The only movie you can act in is horror (as a ghost), now that you’re dead”

Translator's Note

牛嚼牡丹: literally means a cow chewing on peonies. When a cow chews on peony, it does not know whether it is flower or grass, not knowing what the taste is. This literal meaning has been extended to “unappreciative of something worthwhile”
