Story of Another UsCh36 - The Carvalho Massacre Case

Necomir dragged Sebi away to the rooms within the area encapsulated by the hologram. At first, Sebi assumed the whole house was affected, but a quick stroll around immediately led them to discover that they have been placed inside just a portion of the house, with what seemed like a green transparent barrier separating them from the rest of the house

“What happens if we forcefully try to escape?” Sebi wondered, watching as Necomir looked around and found a pen. fYyKcl

“One way to find out,” he said as he walked towards the barrier and suddenly threw the pen.

It simply bounced back.

“Ah, Bellona was right,” Sebi sighed. “We definitely cannot leave. Why put us through this? People didn’t seem like this before.”

Although Sebi had said that with a slip of the tongue and actually referred to his past life, it was vague enough that Necomir thought he was referring to the days before his coma. TFZnji

“No, this definitely isn’t the norm,” Necomir chuckled. “Bellona’s parents are simply just too focused on their business. They want her to take part as well. She hasn’t told me why she’s so against interacting with them, but I bet it’s because of their pressure.”

Sebi nodded as he began imagining a Bellona in the kind of line of work that her parents had. He imagined her in a black suit, fighting through a crowd of criminals with a gun glinting coldly with the same sheer frost as her pretty face.

Sebi scratched his face thoughtfully.

…it was a bit bizarre. Although Bellona had the ability to fight and was quite hotheaded, she didn’t seem like someone who’d fit in this type of work.

“Let’s check this room,” Necomir said as he pushed through a dorm behind Sebi.

It was dark, and the light wasn’t working properly. Necomir had to lift his lightband up to light up parts of the room.

“Look,” Sebi suddenly said, pointing at a shelf with three picture frames perched on top. He walked over with Necomir following closely and peered at the pictures. In the middle was a picture of a family consisting of a man and woman in business attires, while a child sat on his father’s lap. The frame to the right had a picture of the woman and the other frame had the picture of the man.

“Strange,” Necomir mumbled. “They seem very familiar…” MYKOPx

“You won’t be able to see anything good about these pictures if you used your ability?” Sebi wondered.

Necomir shook his head. “These pictures are props, they are not the real thing. They do not have history.”

Sebi suddenly had an epiphany. “Your powers… would really suit the anthropology department.” The ability to see the past and future events that anything or anyone have been through seems to be very convenient, especially when used on an artifact that has been recovered.

Necomir chuckled as he gave him a fond glance. “You can ask for my help when you need me, I don’t mind giving you leverage especially for science and progress.” M1koSX

Sebi’s eyes widened as he lifted a shaky finger towards the direction of the crime scene. Necomir nodded meaningfully, making Sebi gasp and say, “How horrible! So their cruel murder has never been given justice?”

Necomir shook his head. “It may seem so, since this case was forcefully kept away from the prying eyes of the public which the family’s lawyers announced in behalf of the grieving relatives who wanted peace and privacy for the dead.” bHU47z

“The Yahontov’s agency must have been the one who took this case right after that was announced,” Sebi said. “Do you think they have solved this case and Bellona’s parents wanted to see how she would solve this, or they haven’t so they want us to do the job for them?”

“I’m not sure,” Necomir shook his head. “Let’s go to the others, we need more clues.”

When they left to look for the others, Sebi and Necomir came across Akhenaten and Misharu at the crime scene. Akhenaten had his arms crossed while Misharu kept talking, looking like he was just humoring him.

“You guys,” Sebi called out. Misharu and Akhenaten looked up to him. “What did you find?” CUnump

“We recalled that this seems to be a case from years ago,” Akhenaten answered. “This was the family of that minister of Intergalactic Affairs of another planet within the system.”

“No murder weapon in the scene,” Misharu spoke up. “It’s what I can recall from the report. There are also no evidence of forced entry into the house, or of any other party.”

“You’re right,” Necomir said. “This was the Carvalho family. The massacre had been publicized but the case was later made private. We are either going to help Bellona investigate the case which her family’s agency has solved… or help her family’s agency investigate this cold case.”

“I’m betting they are making us investigate because they can’t figure it out on their own,” Misharu haughtily said as he stood up and brushed his hair back sassily. VdI78X

“We’ll know that if this place turns out to lack good evidence,” Necomir reasoned. “If there is sufficient evidence, then it means they are just simply testing Bellona’s investigation skills. If not…”

“They need to compensate us!” Sebi quickly said.

“Yes, indeed,” Necomir chuckled.

Akhenaten pretended not to see the icky eyes Necomir was giving to Sebi and added, “Most likely it’s been solved. Necomir’s ability isn’t that rare.” Rd37de

After chatting a little bit, the four men moved to look for Bellona and Chunmi. They found them inside what looks like the office for one of the couple. Chunmi was trying to revive the computer while Bellona was crouched beneath a lamp, reading through a journal.

“What have you guys found?” Sebi called out as he walked over to Chunmi, watching as her hands lit up with blue light as she worked to revive the system unit.

“Bellona found a journal, it has a record of Iara Carvalho’s daily work during the year the massacre happened,” Chunmi explained. “Necomir, come here and help me. See what we can do about this.”

Necomir went over to help her. Meanwhile, Bellona was still quiet as she pored over the book. It took her a few more moments before she sighed and looked up to her friends. coMJKI

“This is just all about mundane things, more like a checklist of things she needs to do everyday,” she said in a frustrated voice. “I hate this already!”

Misharu walked over to her. “Calm down. Let’s read it again, there might be details we missed.”

“Oh!” Chunmi exclaimed when the computer came to life.

“Great, it’s working now,” Necomir said as he sat back and gestured for her to do her thing. jUlC5H

Chunmi smiled as she slammed her hands on to the screen. Her hands glowed blue as folders after folders of information flashed across the screen. Sebi’s eyes widened, watching as all of the data within the computer easily played into Chunmi’s hands.

A suspicious encrypted file was forced open by Chunmi, revealing log documents and maps.

“What are those?” Sebi wondered.

Chunmi opened the first log. “It’s James Carvalho’s log. It details his business exploits to…” fMepmn

“Planet Helldrum,” Necomir mumbled as he rubbed his chin. His tone was strange, which piqued Sebi’s interest.

“Why, what’s wrong with this planet?” he asked, blinking up to Necomir.

“You should know that this planet has one of the richest precious metal reserves in the star system,” Necomir began, to which Sebi nodded as he recalled it from one of his subjects.

“However, it is not just a simple integral planet for the star system,” Necomir continued. “It is one that is venue to several highly dangerous activities yet aren’t banned by law. Though if you do wish to commit crimes, it’s still a pretty good place.” AOd2lM

“Why, isn’t there a government there?” Sebi asked.

“It’s an aristocracy,” Necomir said. “It is run by the Sun Crest, an anonymous family that was said to be one of the founding families of the Terra Star System.”

“No one knows their face, because the members always hide behind demon masks when appearing in public as tradition,” Chunmi chimed in. “And it’s said that they also wear face-tight masks while in Helldrum. They only take them off to reveal their real faces in Terra.”

Sebi hummed, very interested in this very fictional sort of reality that anyone with the middle school syndrome from his old life would enjoy. “Are their names known to the public?” S8s6zX

“They have official names, though ironically, they are more like aliases,” Chunmi chuckled. “The current matriarch is known as Clara Rosa, and her son is Vulpes Morsu. It is rumored that he goes to our school.”

Sebi stared at his friends and nodded, mentally taking note of the information. He really needed to go to this planet in the future! No matter how dangerous it is, he was curious about urban life there… and of course, the illicit activities as well.

“So that’s it,” Necomir shrugged. “James Carvalho is suspicious. Any details?”

“It’s just his business dealings,” Chunmi said after thoroughly scanning through the logs. “Just metal, more metal, oh and some interest in the firearm industry by contacting pretty famous dealers, but this happens two days before their deaths.” qANvb0

Necomir clicked his tongue. “We need more clues–”

“Oh, there’s also another thing,” Chunmi quickly added as she straighted up. “He has contacts with Helldrum-based research institutions, mostly surrounding drugs for…” she squinted as she opened a prescription attachment. “…emotional stability?”

Sebi tilted his head to the side. “Does he, perhaps, have a mental condition?”

Necomir nodded vigorously as he rubbed his chin. “I see… Wait, Chunmi, do you know if James Carvalho might have a telekinetic ability?” lB1vO8

“He can only influence metal,” Chunmi said.

Sebi was not far from understanding Necomir’s thought process. “Each ability user has different specifications, but I speculate the possibility that Mr. Carvalho might have lost control and accidentally killed his family.”

“How so?” Necomir urged him to explain.

Sebi extended a hand out to a spare clip from an ignored corner of the desk. He levitated it towards him and held it up in his hand. “This paper clip can become a weapon of mass destruction if a telekinetic had the ability to exert as much energy and force needed.”  d U3rV

He suddenly threw the paper clip with a force that shattered a wooden chair across the room.

“FUCK, HELP ME!”
