“Do you think this thing actually works?” 47NhyR

Sha Po Lang asked, pointing at the face shield that had her face tightly, impeccably covered. Her voice was muffled through the layer of rubber.

“Even if it doesn’t work, we still have to go in to save people,” Shan Ziwei replied in his own muffled voice. “So, let’s pray it does.”

“Believe me, you definitely don’t wanna experience the taste of those blood lines.” Sha Po Lang smacked her lips, glancing at the changing number of survivors in Scenario 5. “Three more down. What do we do?”

The two of them stood in the ground floor lobby of the hospital, looking at each other. p5K7yB

“The system wants us to protect at least one-hundred people. Right now, we’re down to three-hundred and eleven – er, four more died, so three-hundred and seven people. Should we go searching for people floor by floor?”

“We don’t have time to search for people who can move around, and even if we find them, where are we gonna put them?”

“Uh, have them gather outside the hospital? So long as they don’t go through the green barrier, the bald guy won’t hurt them, and the artillery outside can protect them, too.”

“How many people do you think we can fit outside?” Shan Ziwei asked.

1e9S2f

“It should maybe fit… fifty…?” Sha Po Lang’s voice grew quieter and quieter as she spoke.

“If the area outside the hospital is filled with people, then how is the artillery outside going to be put to use without hitting them?” Shan Ziwei sighed and continued, “So, right now, our focus shouldn’t be on protecting them but on eliminating what will endanger them.”

“You mean… the monster and the people who’ve been infected by the blood lines?” Sha Po Lang was struck with realisation. “That’s true. Apart from the monster, the only thing that would threaten their lives are fights that break out between them and the infected. As soon as an infected dies, their blood line will latch onto someone else, creating new infected. So long as we destroy all the blood lines and lure the monster into a place with no people, the others in the hospital would be safe!” Sha Po Lang grew steadily more excited as she spoke, but then she frowned, realising something. “But, how’re we gonna find them? We can use your multipurpose tracker to find the monster, but the infected don’t have tags on them…”

Hearing Sha Po Lang mention his tracker, light flashed through Shan Ziwei’s eyes. vpFtd6

“Don’t worry.” Shan Ziwei smiled, turning on the multipurpose tracker on his wrist. “Even without tagging them, I can still find them.”

Shan Ziwei hit “Mode ②” and the green radar display was projected, full of red dots.

Sha Po Lang leaned in curiously to take a look. “What’s this?”

“This is an area heat signature display. The red dots represent living creatures. Dead people don’t give off heat, so…” Shan Ziwei poked a slowly fading red dot on the radar display. “Someone died here.” fp0eYC

There was no need for further discussion. Both of them knew what that death symbolised. Right now, in the hospital, death didn’t just mean a simple pathological change, it also meant violence caused by the infected. Currently, the hospital was split into two groups: normal people and infected, and to both sides, those on the opposing side were monsters they had to slaughter.f

“Well, what’re we waiting for?” Sha Po Lang hefted her gun onto her shoulder in a handsome pose, taking the first step. “Let’s go~!”

“No wonder they’re so strong.”

Sha Po Lang raised her gun but didn’t attack, merely aiming it at the infected. Though the infected were far stronger than normal people, enough ants could topple an elephant. The infected soon fell under the five people’s combined efforts.

“Why didn’t you guys help –“

The guy hadn’t even finished complaining when he saw the newly arrived female hunter take a shot. The guy’s entire body stiffened, mechanically lowering his head to look at the bullet mark barely an inch away from his foot. A red, rope-like blood line had been pinned to the ground by the bullet, soon crumbling into ash. t0m ze

“Phew, that was close. If I didn’t have a ‘Precision Shot’ passive skill, I probably wouldn’t have been able to hit it.”

Sha Po Lang walked over, nudging the infected’s corpse with her gun. Seeing that no more blood lines came out, she stooped to pick up the chess piece.

“That’s one down.” Shan Ziwei opened the tracker display to find their next target. “Now let’s head to the physical examination room on the second floor.”

“Okaaaay~” TuYDCx

The two had the badly shaken normal people go to the ground floor, then continued on to the next place. The first time, they were a little unfamiliar and uncertain, but they soon got the hang of it. They tracked heat signatures and found infected after infected, destroying the blood lines that came out the moment they died.

“Bang!”

Even with the face shield on, Sha Po Lang still gave a rather muffled whistle. “Where’s the next one?”

Shan Ziwei didn’t reply immediately. He scanned the radar display again and again, and eventually spoke after watching the survivors count fall for a while. “Right now, only the red dots on the fourth floor are disappearing. The remaining infected should be there.” UB2af

“Then let’s hurry to the fourth floor!”

“… The monster is there.”

Sha Po Lang fell silent for a moment. The face shield hid her expression, but her trembling voice could be heard. “… We’re going to face the monster now?”

“Yes.” Shan Ziwei nodded cruelly. “We have to both eliminate the remaining blood lines and lure the monster now.” dPpbOC

Even through the face shields, Shan Ziwei could still make out Sha Po Lang’s somewhat despairing gaze, for he had the same emotion in his eyes.

“Later on, when we get up there, you deal with the infected and I’ll lure the monster away.”

As a man, Shan Ziwei refused to push the dangerous mission of luring the monster away onto Sha Po Lang. Plus, Sha Po Lang’s DPS was too high. One hit would break the monster’s tentacle. Tentacle broken = new blood lines, so Shan Ziwei could only grit his teeth and shoulder the heavy responsibility of luring the monster.

Sha Po Lang glanced at Shan Ziwei sympathetically before taking a deep breath, heroically taking a step onto the stairs. “Let’s go, young man, and save the world.” rysQbz

Shan Ziwei followed her with tragic resolve, attempting to make a joke to calm his nerves, “If we’re going to save the world, then who’s gonna save us?”

The silent Little Gaia suddenly raised its head and stared unblinkingly at the white-haired young man’s side profile, its white irises filled with an inanimate coldness.

——That’s right.

If you’re going to go and save the world, then who is going to save you? ihbudG

As soon as they reached the fourth floor, Shan Ziwei could smell the tang of blood even through his face shield. What he saw was beyond his wildest imagination. For a moment, Shan Ziwei thought he had entered spiritual breakdown. Everything in front of him was covered in red. The white floors looked like they had been painted in blood, and there were bits of flesh and internal organs everywhere. Opposite to them, two infected were taking apart a nurse’s corpse. Blood pooled on the floor; the nurse had been skinned, and the infected seemed to think this was how the nurse should be, spreading the blood and flesh around them with expressions of excitement.

Shan Ziwei swallowed thickly. He knew that the fourth floor would be the worst, what with the monster here, but he hadn’t expected things to be this horrific – now, “Laughter Hospital” had really become “Slaughter Hospital”. What was most ironic was that this slaughter of humans had been committed not by the monster, but by other humans.

Upon seeing them, the two infected’s expressions twisted, as if finding rotten meat amongst fresh meat.

“Bang!” qu16Ks

Sha Po Lang resolutely opened fire against the approaching infected. Shan Ziwei looked to the right and immediately saw the white, floating, jellyfish-like monster. He immediately took a few quick steps towards it, aimed and fired.

“Bang!”

After shooting, Shan Ziwei immediately ran a few steps in the direction opposite to Sha Po Lang and turned to look. He was a little afraid that his DPS wasn’t enough and the monster wouldn’t come after him.

Soon enough, however, Shan Ziwei realised that his worries were meaningless for the monster was extremely interested in him and wanted nothing more than to keep chasing him. The monster seemed to have gotten used to this floaty method of movement. Its umbrella-like head expanded and contracted, sending it speeding towards Shan Ziwei. DIL6gA

“!!!”

Shan Ziwei quickly went down to avoid the monster’s tentacles, not even caring for the pain on his scalp as he turned and stumbled, doing everything he could to escape.

The monster raised the tuft of white hair in its tentacle up above its head to take a look before discarding it to one side, continuing to float after the white-haired young man.

——So long as it caught him, all of him, never mind his hair, would belong to it. vZ8J3K

Shan Ziwei cupped the area on his head that was once again missing more hair, feeling a chill on the back of his head. The monster behind him clearly thought of him as prey now. A certain hypersexual cried to himself. He sure had unlocked quite a unique level of playing hunter. He had gotten to the point where the hunter and the hunted had switched places.

Soon enough, Shan Ziwei realised just how naïve he had been when he thought he could kite the monster. Now that the monster had mastered moving through jet propulsion, it was unstoppable when it came to moving in a straight line. Shan Ziwei could only swerve around corners as much as possible to avoid being caught. The result of taking too many turns, however, was that he also had no idea where he was or where he was going. In order to avoid yet another attack from the monster, Shan Ziwei took a ninety degrees left turn, charging into the next corridor.

This corridor was completely closed off with a ninety degree turn in front of him. Shan Ziwei ran to turn the corner without thinking.

But as he did, he was completely stunned. This new corridor was very short, to the point where it only took him a few steps to reach the end. There was only one door at the end and past that door was clearly a room – this was a dead end. zN84Em

Shan Ziwei immediately wanted to retrace his steps, but when he turned his head, he despairingly found that the monster was already blocking the exit. With no other choice, Shan Ziwei gritted his teeth and charged through the door and locked it.

“Click.”

The sound of the door locking didn’t bring Shan Ziwei any comfort. He didn’t think this door could stop that bishop-level pawn. Shan Ziwei backed away and quickly glanced over the room, trying to find something he could use.

The room was larger than he had expected, with rows upon rows of blue steel cans with a big circle and a small number painted on each one using white paint. Before Shan Ziwei could investigate further, a thunderous noise came from behind him. gh0aMn

“Crash!”

The blue steel cans were thrown about by the force of the impact, gas leaking out with a hiss. Shan Ziwei stared at the white, soft-bodied creature beside him – that monster had charged straight through the locked door!!!

He ignored the pain in his legs from being struck by the falling blue cans, scrambling up to run, but it was too late as a tentacle softly, yet unyieldingly, wrapped around his right arm.

Known: Shan Ziwei is a hypersexual, and Shan Ziwei encountered a tentacle. cv89HR

Find: The area of a certain hypersexual’s current trauma.

Shan Ziwei’s mind blanked. He raised his gun almost by instinct, pulling the trigger at the monster right next to him.

“Boom!”

The immense explosion swept over the entire room. Even with his face shield on, Shan Ziwei still felt the wave of heat assaulting him. He was sent flying by the explosion and crashed into the wall, his vision going dark. Shan Ziwei was practically rendered unconscious, only vaguely able to feel rocks falling one after the other on his body and around him. 3cVSoG

“Urgh… cough cough…”

Intense pain pulled Shan Ziwei back to reality. The 100 percent pain mode in this game was no joke. Currently, half of Shan Ziwei’s body was buried in broken rock. The collapsed ceiling had formed a dark little corner which the white-haired young man sat in, his feet, left hand and head in pain from the pressure of the broken rock on him – the falling rocks had smashed a hole into his head. Though it had healed quickly, the area still pulsed with pain.

No matter what injury a player received in this game, they’d always heal up immediately, but the pain wouldn’t be lessened. Shan Ziwei looked at his fully corrupted SP, struggling to use his right hand to retrieve the bandages in his tactical vest so he could bandage himself up.

The tentacle was still wrapped around his right arm. With only one hand able to move, Shan Ziwei had no way of removing the tentacle. He decided to ignore it, but then he felt the soft tip of the tentacle twitch. 3 cjh0

Poor hypersexual… Freaking ouch, getting hit so hard by a rock your head caves in, yikes….

Next up, Scenario Twenty-Seven: Monster Hunter IX

Translator's Note

The Chinese term for “trauma” can be translated literally as “psychological shadow”. The popular joke among netizens is that you can calculate the area of the shadow like in a maths problem lol, which is why this part has the same structure as a maths exam question

  1. MC is so intelligent i would have not even considered if there is enough space outside and with the radar i alredy forgot about it 😶

    thx for the chapter

  2. yo ML’s taking too long to appear. Or he already made his presence and we didn’t realized it 👀 (the monster’s monologue got my sendor tingling, that’s my theory XD) Thank you for the chapter! [it’s a whole paragraph because I can’t press enter in these comments _(:3]

    • I think Gaia is the ML…because remember that one guy in the prison RP and the guy in the tutorial RP.

Maybe Gaia is controlling the game to create fake players and hack into the MC’s cards (Like the mirror image) to be with MC. Mainly cuz their expressions and actions are really similar in how they’re described.

  3. Gaia do you have to be so cold about who’s gonna save SZW … (:」∠)_ (Ofc you can be the one to save him but then again so many pits being dug for him right now…. RIP)

    Thanks for the chapter!!
