Translator's Note

二当家 er dangjia – He’s not actually a servant per se, but the second “head of household” in this case.

Translator's Note

毒圣祝圣 du sheng zhu sheng – A note that “zhu sheng” itself means “consecration,” but it’s likely used as a title here.

Translator's Note

酒囊饭袋 jiunangfandai – literally “wine bag rice bag,” used to refer to people who only know how to eat and not work, AKA someone useless.

Translator's Note

《本草经集》 Bengcao jing mi – An ancient medical text tracing its origins to the Northern and Southern Dynasties, later on appearing in the Ming Dynasty’s herbology volume Compendium of Materia Medica 《本草纲目》 Bengcao gangmu which actually has a English Wikipedia page I can link to lol.

Translator's Note

悬丝诊脉 xuan si zhenmai – In ancient China it wasn’t convenient or proper for males and females to touch, so one way male doctors checked the pulse of female patients was to tie a silk thread around their wrist and feel the heartbeat through the string instead.
