Also, it took me a while to realize that A Fei wants describing one of those Ancient Greek square dresses, but a British dress with empire waist, which was popular roughly 1790~1810 or a little longer than that. And considering the constant evolution of fashion, there are multiple different styles to find, depending on the year the dress was made. There are some YouTubers who’ve made videos on such fashion timelines. As for the empire waist, it’s that the waistline slowly wandered upwards and at some point directly sat under the bosom. There are some hanfu that also have such a high waist, high waisted ruqun I think. But it’s not as extreme as those where the waist band is directly under the armpits…
On the makeup: if I remember correctly, because the empire dress followed after a time of colorful extravagance and was quite… reduced, the makeup was also reduced. It was about pale, delicate skin, but healthily blushing cheeks and lips. That means they pinched and rubbed their cheeks and lips to make them look reddish, also using a kind of balm/bees wax for the lips and rouge for the cheeks, which means it’s a very soft, rose pink and natural look. Or in other words, they’d never walk around with solid vermillion lips, that sounds quite vulgar… Just look at Rosamund Pike as Jane is Pride and Prejudice, she embodies that look very well.

Don’t talk to me about dialects, my country is small-ish but there’s like a hundred different dialects, language and pidgins that my family alone speaks 5 of them, sans the official languages… I only know the official languages! TwT
I’m not sure about Germany’s amount of dialects, but as long as you know the official language, you should be able to understand most dialects. Austrian German is also quite understandable, Swiss German varies from very understandable to “it sounds like I should understand but I don’t”, and Dutch is similar to Platt Deutsch (flat German, a dialect of the North) but it’s barely similar — I think I understand but then I don’t. Oh, and do you know Luxembourg? Their language is a wild mix of French, Dutch, German, probably Belgian and some of their own creations. It’s amazing, a spectrum from “wtf what” to “hey I understand that!”.
Language is wonderful. So fascinating, so varied, strange, and beautiful all at once~
Same~ I’ve actually dabbled in linguistics for worldbuilding and the way language and dialects evolve is so fantastical at times! Glad I was born in a globalized world.

I actually kinda wonder how many people is bilingual or doesn’t speak their native language here xD I’m personally learned Vietnamese first but moved to Australia later so I only speak minor Vietnamese and know more English, I’m also learning Chinese as it was said my ‘father’ (who da fawk is that??) is Chinese, I’m also learning Japanese at school… well at least in 7 years I can say I speak 4 languages 🥲

Fish actually grew up in Vietnam, so Fish can speak Vietnamese too. Fish also learned Chinese at school as a mandatory foreign language subject (Fish was a bad student so Fish barely passed, haha). As for Japanese…… it was supposed to be Fish’s native language, but Fish’s English prevailed, haha… so Fish now has to learn it in adulthood.
oh Fish grew up in Vietnam?!! I actually kinda imagined fish to be Chinese cuz Fish seemed so knowledgable in that aspect lol, so fish is Japanese I hope you learn well with Japanese I’ll also have to revise my Vietnamese soon cause I normally speak English now that mum is back home 😂
