After a while, Lu Xingwang asked whether something was wrong. Jian Mei finally sniffed, took the phone, and replied as his tears dripped on the screen. “I quarreled with my parents.”
It also surprised Lu Xingwang.
After all, in His Highness’ impression, Jian Mei was a child with a good temper. If it wasn’t a serious problem then how would he quarrel with his parents?
Furthermore, except for the first time they talked to each other where Jian Mei sent a few gibberish texts, it had never happened since then. Lu Xingwang could guess a little bit of the situation. [Is it because of me?]
Jian Mei didn’t want Lu Xingwang to blame himself. [It’s not all because of you. I didn’t put the phone away.]
Lu Xingwang had some guesses. [Did your parents find out about me?]
Jian Mei said yes. Fearing that Lu Xingwang would think that he couldn’t keep a secret, he added. “But I didn’t say anything about you. I kept what you didn’t want me to tell a secret.”
The two of them somehow looked like they were hiding something as if they were engaging in an unspeakable relationship.
It was a bit amusing to say that if this was in Stan Star, if any commoner or even the royal family could maintain such a frequent and friendly relationship with the third prince of the empire, it would definitely be glorious and something worth bragging about. However, in Jian Mei’s case, it caused a big fight and made him cry.
However, these people wanted to be associated with and be friends with the third prince, not Lu Xingwang without the halo. But now, he met a somewhat naive child who quarreled with his family over this Lu Xingwang whose halo had faded.
Lu Xingwang sat on the grass in the military base. The teenager half-leaned against a tree, sighed faintly, and clicked the call button to call Jian Mei.
After a long time, the person on the other side finally answered the call with a heavy sobbing tone. “Hello.”
Lu Xingwang said, “Why are you crying again?”
Jian Mei sniffled. “It’s not illegal to cry.”
Lu Xingwang said, “Is it the first time you quarreled with your parents?”
“En.” Jian Mei replied in a low voice. “I don’t know if I spoke too much and made my mom sad.”
Of course, he knew that Shen Meina was concerned about him. So in retrospect, he couldn’t help but blame himself.
Lu Xingwang said slowly, “Do you regret it?”
“Regret…”
Jian Mei replied honestly. “I don’t regret it.”

Lu Xingwang’s lips hooked up, amused with the cuteness of Jian Mei. He spoke in a low voice, but with some doting that Lu Xingwang himself didn’t even notice. “What did you argue about?”

Jian Mei desperately needed to talk to someone at this moment. He sniffled and started to say, “It all happened when I came out of the shower and then I saw mom was looking at my phone and then she…just didn’t care about what I thought at all. I know she was doing it for my own good, but I’m not happy at all about that. Can you understand how I feel?”
Lu Xingwang replied, “En.”
Jian Mei’s attention was immediately drawn. He asked, “Do you also quarrel with your family?”
How surprising. In Jian Mei’s impression, Dazhuang-ge was a calm and reliable person. Did he also have some rebellious days?
Lu Xingwang told him. “I quarreled with them when I was younger, but not anymore.”
Jian Mei suddenly recalled that Dazhuang-ge’s mother had died, so there was no more chance to quarrel. He actually forgot about it and brought up Lu Xingwang’s sad memories. He quickly changed the topic and said, “Younger…how young were you at that time?”
Lu Xingwang thought about it for a moment. “Five years old.”
At that time, he saw other children playing outside, so he also wanted to go outside to play. However, Imperial Concubine Lan caught him and scolded him. He didn’t want to accept it and felt wronged. He asked why other children could do it but he couldn’t, then he saw his mother’s stern and sad expression. Even until now, that expression was still vivid.
Jian Mei’s voice came from the other side of the microphone, wiping away some sadness. “So, how old are you now?”
Lu Xingwang replied, “Older than you.”
Jian Mei wasn’t convinced. “That’s not necessarily true.”
“I’m 14.”
“I’m also 14.”
Lu Xingwang thought about his birthday and told him, “October 24.”
Jian Mei was defeated. He was born in December, but it was already October 21. Then wouldn’t Dazhuang-ge’s birthday be coming up soon? So close, if this topic didn’t come up in their discussion, then he’d definitely miss it.
He sighed softly and said, “You’re really older than me ai.”
Lu Xingwang raised his brow. “You seem very sad.”
“Yes, ah.” Jian Mei muttered, “Why am I always the younger brother?”
Lu Xingwang paused for a while. With a low and relaxing tone, he said, “You sure know how to seek connections and announce us as a relative.”
This child really knew how to take advantage. He casually recognized Dazhuang-ge as his brother and became a member of the royal family. Even a lottery ticket seller on the street wouldn’t dare to go as far to weave such dreams.
Jian Mei pouted. “What else could I be if not a younger brother?”
This was surely some questioning to the soul.
His Highness who was sitting under a tree was rarely questioned and even his beautiful brows furrowed slightly. He pondered about the relationship between the two of them that he had overlooked or deliberately ignored. Even if he didn’t want to admit it, Jian Mei’s entry into his life was like an extremely fast-growing and inconspicuous grass. At first, it wasn’t very conspicuous, but it grew endlessly after noticing it.
“Hello?” He had been thinking for a long time. Jian Mie’s soft and nasally voice after crying came from the other end. Somewhat docile but full of doubts, he asked, “Is the signal bad? Why aren’t you talking?”
Lu Xingwang replied. “I was lost in thought just now.”
Jian Mei was relieved. With a little bit of vibrancy, he gently asked the question that hadn’t been answered. “Then what am I to you?”
He originally wanted to tease Lu Xingwang and followed up with ‘so, am I your elder brother?”
Surprisingly, the person on the other end of the call fell suspiciously silent once again.
After that, he surprisingly heard Lu Xingwang’s low voice with a seriousness that he felt across the phone. “Friend.”
Jian Mei was stunned. “What?”
No one knew how much meaning these two simple words carried in His Highness’ mind. Lu Xingwang’s serious attitude towards everything made him stricter and extra careful about his relationships— his previous self wouldn’t have believed that he made a promise to a stranger he had never met.
Moreover, he was very sober.
When Jian Mei didn’t hear it clearly, Lu Xingwang’s gaze deepened. He exhaled and patiently said it again. “Friend.”
Like a small pebble that fell into the pool making ripples. It was obviously a simple word, but Jian Mei’s hand clenched the moment it came out of Lu Xingwang’s lips, and it was as if his sadness was carried away by the wind. It was as if his sincerity had also been reciprocated and wasn’t just one-sided anymore. Now, he was also Dazhuang-ge’s good friend.
Jian Mei’s eyes bent into crescents and said softly, “Okay, then it’s settled. We’re good brothers for life!”
Lu Xingwang didn’t expect Jian Mei to raise him to another level.
He was somewhat helpless but also felt a bit amusing. He never told Jian Mei that the person who really had no friends was him. Unfortunately, this long-term promise was just a dream after all. He would have a short life, it was so short that he should have only been a passerby in Jian Mei’s life. Fortunately, he would be the one to leave first, and the pain of separation wouldn’t be too strong.
The next day.
When Jian Changjia returned from school to get his things early in the morning, he saw his brother sitting in the doorway putting on his shoes.
He was surprised. “Why did you get up so early? It’s only five o’clock. Aren’t you on a school vacation? Mom and dad aren’t awake yet and you haven’t eaten breakfast, right?”
Jian Mei lowered his head and said, “I’m not going to eat breakfast at home.”
This made Jian Changjia even more curious. “Then where are you going to get breakfast?”
Jian Mei looked away. “I’m going out to eat.”
Even so, he noticed that his brother’s eyes were swollen from crying, and for some reason, he woke up so early today, so at first glance, there must be a big problem.
Jian Changjia raised an eyebrow. “Were you bullied at school?”
Jian Mei was startled. As soon as he looked up, he saw his brother’s face scowling, so he shook his head hurriedly. “No.”
This surprised Jian Changjia even more. If it wasn’t the school, then could it be his parents? This was even more unbelievable. His brother hadn’t been in good health since childhood, so it was necessary for him to be careful of emotional ups and downs. Fortunately, he was obedient and sensible, so ever since he was young, he was rarely scolded, let alone other punishments. So what happened this time?
Jian Mei squeezed his small backpack. He saw his brother staring at him so he finally said in a low voice, “I had a quarrel with mom.”
Surprisingly, his brother didn’t blame him.
On the other hand, Jian Changjia was laughing happily. “Not bad, it’s just puberty. How did it go? Did you win the quarrel?”
Jian Mei pouted. “It’s a tie.”
Jian Changjia snorted. “Useless.”
Jian Mei looked away and muttered, “I’m leaving.”
“Come back.”
Jian Mei paused and looked at him with some confusion, then he heard Jian Changjia say, “Aren’t you just avoiding mom? Even if you go out to eat breakfast, can you avoid her once you come back?”
Jian Mei pursed his lips. He didn’t think through this He just didn’t want to face his mom. Now that his brother saw through the matter, he said with some hesitation, “I…I’ll go to the park.”
Jian Changjia sneered. “You’re not afraid of being abducted and sold away.”
Jian Mei glared at him.
Even so, Jian Changjia approached him, leaned down half way,and put his arm around Jian Mei’s shoulders. For the first time, the wild teenager decided to take his brother to see the world. “Let’s go. I’m in a good mood today, I’ll take you out for a good time!”
The author has something to say:
Every family has difficulties. Yesterday, I saw a comment and I still remember it now. A child’s growth is a slow process to understand their parents’ challenges, and it is also a gradual process for the parents to understand the child. As a matter of fact, there is no deep hatred between a child and their parents. It’s often still just words poorly expressed.
Thank you very much for your support, I will continue to work hard!
Translator’s Notes:
Sorry for posting it just now lol. My Mondays are so busy qaq. Anyway, for those who are asking how old they were, now it’s answered! They are both 14 years old lolol.
Meimei is 14 years old and so baby aaahh
He really knows how to get an inch and take a mile though~
I thought that he was around 10 years old.
Ha ha ha they are both 14!
I thought Meimei was 12 and Lu Xingwang 16 or something similar! Really didn’t expect hghg
I’m pretty sure in earlier chapters it was mentioned he was only eight or nine. And now suddenly the author writes that his age is 14? It’s weird.
The 8 or 9 that was mentioned before refers to when he got sick and diagnosed with leukemia.
Gotcha.
Thank you for the chapter!
And here, yet again, we see the brother being the superior parent.
it’s not even a contest
Right? Hopefully his brother is around if they fight again…
so, even in another galaxy, they are using calendar months…🤔
Anyways, let’s see what MC will do or ML’s bday.
Thanks for the chapter
I think the author used calendar months for the convenience of the readers, probably. Its that or they’re just lazy to make up a new date system. 🤔
There’s was something earlier. It’s eithier author forgot, or made it for our easier understanding, or ML saw our month system somewhere (for example, when was registrating for game) and counted what month his birtday in
Wait they’re both the same age!?
Tbh, I’d be relieved if their age wasn’t any further apart than, like, 14 and 20. Thank god they were the same age *phew*
Ahhh MeiMei I though you were at least 10 or 12 years old and your hubby 15. Turns out you guys are the same age ba! QAQ Shocked the hell outta me. 14? MeiMei its good to have a rebellious episode at that age, no matter how small it may be. It shows you have the inkling for independence that will help you when you become an adult.
Note that this is my own opinion, and I’m not at all a psychologist.
Hahahahaha! From their respective attitudes I thoughts their ages were so far apart and…they are the same age! Pfft! And yeah, Stan galaxy full of magic and other worldly technology uses our calendar…faceplant! LMAO! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the update ❤️🤣
thought
Don’t worry you’ll live long enough to spend you’re entire life loving the person who care for you. Also a child help their parents to grow, i read this in a novel the title is ‘The Baby Raising a Devil(?)’. And gosh they’re the same age, i wonder what will Mei Mei give Lu XingWang for his(LXW) birthday 🤔🤔. Anyways thanks for a lovely update♡♥.
Thanks for the chapter ♥️♥️
Wow, they are both so young!
Aww. Giving some love to this little boy that had his first big fight with his mom😘🍪
14??? 👀
….God I have sin 🤣. I was imagining the ML all tall, handsome, and buff 😂😂😂. But he a little boy😭😭😭
Thanks for the update ❤️❤️❤️
A child being so obedient and sensible it doesn’t mean that’s good 😦
Also I’m glad that they’re both 14, if ML is 3 or 4 years older than Meimei I’ll be a little concerned 😬
Anyways thanks for the update 💖
The 3-4 year age gap was fine when they were just friends chit chatting and playing games, imo. Like clearly the romance would happen way, way later, but at least this rate we get to know them as childhood friends.
BUT it clearly didn’t go that way. The author must be impatient to get this story moving. Seriously we barely have any plot progress and she rushing.
There was no age gap even from early chapters though. Jian Mei just thinks LXW was older since he acts matured.
older brother sided with his younger brother~
thanks for the chapter~
Jian Mei is so cute 💕🤗🎶
that age huh☁️. The age where I discovered BL is a thing 😆
I think I was a little younger? I was 13, I think!
Meimei is older than I thought and our Highness younger than I thought lolol
Thx for the ch (ㅅ˘ㅂ˘)
I get that he’s been sick and coddled, but there’s no way a 14 year old boy acts like that. Not sorry to say it. And you’re not constantly referred to as a child when you’re fourteen. It doesn’t make any sense as to why his grandpa is so cautious about him lifting medicine jars or reaching up to the high shelves if he’s a teenager. Also, why would all these 14 year old kids in his clas be oh so happy to show off their flower stickers on parent teacher day?? His age makes zero sense lmao.
Unless like I said, the author got some crap for mentioning an engagement when Jian Mei was/is a child. And that void further crap from being flung, she’s retconning her own story.
It was said in earlier chaps that ml was 14 and mc is in 7th grade, so he should be 13-14.
Did you win?
Its a tie.
Useless.
Peak sibling interaction lol, I had almost exactly the same convo with my sister last week 🤣🤣
I just realized meimei is the same age as me! And all this time I have been seeing him as a little baby!!
YOUR HIGHNESS I ALSO NEED SOME MATHS TUTORING!!
He is unexpected quite older than i expected! I thought he was 10 xD
Thanks for the chapter!! 💕
they’re 14?? i thought they were in highschool lol. also the way the author describes LXW makes me think he’s like 18-20 😭
Omygosh
Today’s October 24!
🥳Happy birthday Lu Xingwang!🥳
