Shen Meina was…utterly shocked. a7CgfV

In her impression, even her closest siblings, her own husband, children, or even her best friend, wouldn’t care for her so attentively. However, the online friend that Jian Mei found was obviously beyond her imagination. Lu Xingwang actually didn’t talk much every day, and instead, it was Jian Mei who had no self-control and thinking ability and talked a lot. Lu Xingwang would always stop some of his wrong thoughts and behaviors in time.

Although he looked strict, only parents could see that underneath these strict words, he had good intentions for the child.

Shen Meina muttered to herself. “Impossible.”

As she looked at it, she felt somehow uncomfortable inside. She and Jian Shencheng didn’t lack in giving Jian Mei food to eat and clothes to wear, but her son didn’t tell them everything and instead, he opened up to a stranger and received a lot of care in turn. Wasn’t this a great irony for the parents?” xwrWf

While she was thinking, a voice suddenly came from behind. “Mom?”

Shen Meina was shocked that her hand shook and the phone almost fell. She looked back at her son who was in pajamas and said unconfidently, “Didn’t you take a shower? How are you so fast?”

Jian Mei looked at her hands placed behind her. “Mom, what are you doing?”

The mother who was always overbearing stammered for once. “Just…checking your homework.”

Jian Mei turned his head and looked at the desk not far away. “Then, Mom. Why are you standing here by the sofa?”

“I…I checked it and came over to rest.”

“Mom, why did you take my phone while resting?” Jian Mei’s voice was clear. He looked at Shen Meina with a clean gaze, but the adult mind was so complex.

Shen Meina was somehow afraid of being seen through and subconsciously lied. “Mom didn’t look at it. I just picked it up.” d0mOYM

Jian Mei stood still and looked at her silently before saying simply, “But, Mom. I just saw you looking through my phone.”

Silence permeated the whole room.

The assertive mother had just been accused by the child and became a little embarrassed.

Shen Meina didn’t expect her son, who had always been well-behaved and sensible, to talk back to her because of this. She became short of breath. “Didn’t you also lie that you did the homework yourself?”

Jian Mei was also speechless. sznUZN

Yes, he lied, because he had agreed with Dazhuang-ge not to tell anyone.

Shen Meina saw that he was silent and finally saved some face. She cleared her throat and softened her attitude. “It’s my fault for peeking at your phone, but you never lied before. This time, I was just worried about you and that’s why I peeked, so let’s just call it even. Okay?”

Jian Mei pursed his lips and nodded reluctantly.

Shen Meina saw that the crisis was lifted, so she sat down on the sofa and asked insistently. “Then can you tell me who this person in your WeChat is? What’s your relationship and when did you meet?” 06QFNA

Jian Mei said honestly, “He’s my friend.”

Shen Meina frowned. “You haven’t answered my other questions yet.”

Jian Mei actually wanted to tell his family about his friend. After all, Lu Xingwang was his best friend and was also smart and capable. He was also eager to show off, but because of the special situation, he could only avoid it. “I met him during the summer vacation, just an ordinary friend.”

Shen Meina thought there was a big problem being covered up. “Then what’s his name? Where does he live and does he go to the same school as you?” 9bAMFm

Jian Mei answered, “I don’t know.”

Shen Meina was a little angry. Since Jian Mei was a child, he always opened up to her. Now, she became fierce again. “So you became friends with this person despite knowing nothing about him?”

Jian Mei pursed his lips aggrievedly. “He’s a good person, not a bad person.”

“What does a child like you know?” dXrpZ9

“…Dad said before that a person shouldn’t judge people and things that they don’t understand.” Jian Mei didn’t want her mother to say bad things about his friend. “Mom, you don’t know him, so why speak like that?”

In his second year of junior high school, the child who had just reached puberty confronted his mother for the first time.

Shen Meina was also shocked. When she saw her obedient child disobeying her like this, she immediately became angry and said, “Do you just listen to your father and not your mother? Am I being unreasonable? Why do you think I’m saying this? Why don’t I go educate someone else? I’m saying this because I care about you, because you’re my son that’s why I’m saying this.”

Their heated conversation could be heard downstairs. rsdlWx

Jian Shencheng originally didn’t want to get involved, but when he saw that it was getting out of control, he hurriedly ran upstairs. When he saw that his wife and child were both angry, he hurriedly said, “What’s happening?”

Shen Meina looked at her husband who had arrived. “Look at your good son, he’s pissing me off.”

Jian Mei didn’t speak.

Jian Shencheng came over and patted Shen Meina’s shoulder. “What’s wrong? Why are you arguing with our child?” kYZ7Bn

Shen Meina’s beautiful face turned red from anger and then she looked at Jian Mei’s slightly red eyes. “Am I not doing it for your own good? Alright, your friend isn’t a bad person, but your mom is a bad person.”

Jian Mei’s hand placed at his side curled up unconsciously as he looked down and said, “I’m sorry.”

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Jian Shencheng sighed. “Alright, alright. Stop arguing ah.”

Shen Meina recalled how Jian Mei never used to talk back to her. But now, even though this stranger didn’t seem to teach his son bad things, he must have brought some bad influence; otherwise, how could Jian Mei be like this? 0d2zK5

The more she thought about it, the more she realized this was the case.

Shen Meina said, “I won’t harm you, but you’d better block this person and have less contact with people with unknown origins in the future. Do you hear me?”

Jian Mei was silent and didn’t speak.

When she saw her son saying nothing, she became more angry. Shen Meina added, “Meimei, you’re still young. You’ll have many friends who you know well and will be good to you. Don’t stick to the present, the internet is so big and there will be countless variables at any time. If one day something happened, you lost your account, and couldn’t keep anything, then at that time, who could you go to and what could you do? I’m not against you making friends. However, if you continue this, the only person who will be hurt is yourself.” udDsvG

Jian Mei’s lips twitched. “It won’t be lost…”

Shen Meina laughed out of anger. “You can’t prepare for all the changes. If you have worries, you can talk to mom and dad. We can also help you, so there’s no need to rely on an online friend ah. As I said, you’ll have other friends in the future and your classmates are also very good.”

Jian Mei stood there obediently. After hearing what Shen Meina said, he said, “It’s not the same.”

Shen Meina felt incredulous. “What did you say?” ezTiRY

“It’s different.” Jian Mei looked at them with a bit of stubbornness. “My friend is different from mom and dad. Mom and dad are always busy, and can’t stay with me all the time. You have no time to listen to my nagging. Mom, you only want me to be obedient and sensible, but my friend won’t ask me a lot, and…”

Jian Mei paused. With some determination and eagerness, he said, “No one can be replaced. Mom, you used to say that I should cherish the person in front of me. I don’t want to wait for other friends in the future. I’m indeed not smart, but I grew up and can tell the difference between good and bad.”

I want him.

Although it was understated, the subtext behind it was clearly expressed to his parents. 7ng3AZ

This was the first time Jian Mei confronted his parents and for the first time, the child who had always been obedient showed his parents some temper and stubborn persistence. Like a silent battle, Jian Mei wasn’t going to surrender.

Shen Meina’s breath became short out of anger. “You!”

Indeed, she could choose to take strong measures to force Jian Mo to block this person or confiscate Jian Mei’s phone to achieve her own goals. However, she vaguely realized that Jian Mei hadn’t actually made any serious mistakes. If she gave such a serious punishment, it’d hurt the child too much. Her aim was to protect the child, not to ruin their relationship.

Jian Shencheng didn’t want to see his wife and child quarrel, so he hurriedly pulled his wife out of the room. Before leaving, he told Jian Mei, “Go to bed early. Your mom is also doing it for your own good, understood?” ToJkE5

Jian Mei pursed his lips and didn’t speak.

When silence was restored in the room, he slowly walked to the sofa, sat down, and curled up on the sofa. The child who looked a little stubborn and talkative just now curled into a ball in frustration. Jian Mo bowed down his head as he sat. Once he was alone, he let go of his defenses and gently wiped his tears.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

This was the first time he had quarreled with his parents and was very sad. Of course, he knew that his mother was doing it for his own good, which was exactly why he was even more sad. He regretted not talking to his mother properly. At the same time, he felt wronged because his parents couldn’t understand him.

“Buzz…” ZadiNI

The phone vibrated.

Jian Mei looked over in confusion and found that Shen Meina accidentally sent a few garbled symbols Lu Xingwang earlier, which made His Highness puzzled.

But Jian Mei was feeling sad, so he didn’t reply to the message in time.

  1. Aww, poor MeiMei. I can understand both standpoints, but because (they’re the protagonists and) I like them more I’m on MeiMei’s side.

    Thanks for the chapter!

  2. These kinds of parents…they’re certainly not bad people, but there are so many questionable things about them!

Why do they have children when later on they don’t care about anything but work?

Why do they allow their children to have a horrible relationship and don’t have a talk with them?

And now that they realised their lonely and closed son has finally a friend that seems reliable at first glance they want him to block him for no reason? That’s so unreliable and harmful of them!

They don’t even know that Meimei was almost tricked by the “great boy” at school and are blind to his green tea talk, why don’t they think about how the quarrel came to be ah? That’s exactly the type of parent that will bring their children lots of mental baggage and then wonder what went wrong in the middle

    • It was clear from the start when was mentioned that MC didn’t want to
bother those who around him. That’s already very heavy psychological
burden that can born mental illnesses

      • Actually they don’t work for Mai Mai treatment, they were always this busy as it was already said their family is well off, his mother is an actress meanwhile dad a doctor, the doctors are always busy, there’s no need to talk bout the schedule of an actress

        • They are well off but treatment for serious diseases – specially cancer – involves numbers off the roofs. I took it as they continuing their jobs in that way (doctors can work in smaller clinics and popular actresses can reject jobs, and both can change jobs) because they need to

    • Mine did the same with me even when they knew my online friends. I guess it’s just a matter of trust, and especially because his parents are barely around, they might not trust him to make good decisions.

  3. She seems entitled, like first she negelects both of her children, then proceeds to break their boundaries, act spoiled when called out and worst of, only wants them to be obedient.

The last one is incredibly awful because the older one got negelected and and is acting out in disobedience meanwhile the other went through most of his childhood with a disease, thinking that he’s basic existence is a burden which resulted into him never being able to feel comfortable enough to disobey.

To add the cherry on top of that she expected him to cut off the only outside influence that helped him develop in a positive way (which she knows), because that persons existence is what? Hurting the picture of the child in her mind that is cute and obedient?

    Woman needs to be humbled…

    • Yes, she needs to sit down for a sec and be humble. She definitely needs to rethink her parenting, Meimei’s father at lest has a but of the basics down, like respecting boundaries. Although he isn’t winning any best parent award from any of his kid, at least he knows what’s up. But then again, he didn’t stop his wife when she started to run her mouth again. Buttttt then again, men in asian families are sometime more introverted than their wives.

Basically, these parents have issues and seem quite adamant to pass this issues to their children, while said children vehemently reject their baggage.

  4. Now i am not a parent and i understand that she has her reasons, but i disagree with her thought process.

Since MC has always been sick, in the hospital, parents have to work, and he has always been a good and obedient child, hardly asking for anything and not even getting mad at anyone, i think its good that he is actually talking back a bit.

Now dont get me wrong, its bad to talk back to your parents but in his case it kinda shows that he’s grown a bit.

From the proof of the phone and their chat history, it shows that the opposite person is responsible. No normal person would put that much effort into swindling or manipulating someone.

MC found a reliable friend despite the unknown origins.

He cared enough to talk back, which is something he has never done.

Sometimes its more comfortable confiding in a complete stranger than relatives and friends.

If i was the mother in this situation i would have been relieved that there is someone kind and reliable looking after my child while im not there. I would have been proud too because his world is expanding little by little.

Relieved that he was starting to get more of his own “thoughts and individuality”

Then again i have never been a parent and most of my little siblings are with their parents (im the oldest of my cousins and 7 siblings. Its a long story)

    • Actually, talking back shows a healthy mental devolpment of the teen (from what my psychologist friends told me).

I think her being worried is understandable, not only is the mc still relatively young but this is also his first contact with internet if i’m not remembering wrongly. What I see wrong in that conversation is how the mom made her pride being based on her being right. Like, how it is said she was feeling uncomfortable when the mc was making sense. She should have just given a normal advice, listen to her kids’ opinion and done. I guess all that will happen in the next chapters when she gets over the shock of mc finally voicing his opinions and calms down

  5. I still feel like she is just upset because that trash classmate told her about the online friend. She wants Meimei to be friends with “classmates” doesn’t that just mean the boy she perceived to be kind even though the whole conversation was to play her and get rid of Meimei’s friend who messed up his plan on the mountain?

  6. Well, I’ll join to everyone

Mother was never take good care of her children in first place. She didn’t think how it’s hard for ‘only’ child to became one day ‘eldest’ child. She clearly knew about situation between two brothers, when older brother get his scar and younger was scared, but didn’t put any affort to solve that disput.

She knew her youngest son didn’t had the ability to make many good friends because he spent so much time in hospital. She keep incoraging him to ‘make friends’, but when he made ‘real friend’ she was against it because it’s not ‘friend’ that she wanted.

She never gave enough comfort for both of her sons, so they can trust her enough.

She tells that it’s for his sake, but never asked him what he wants. Same situation with older brother.

She tells him to make ‘good friends’ with all classmates, but didn’t tell him that it’s normall to not get along with some people and that it’s a long way to learn how to find compromis between people.

And I know that someone agree that she doing it because she worries about him. Well no, she’s just that frustratingly controling type of person that likes to controll everyone around her and didn’t see her children as living humans with their own soughts, but just like ‘children’. What’s wrong, because there’s doesn’t exist that specific moment, when ‘child’ becames ‘adult’, even if you use ‘teenager’ between.

And how she take his phone without his permission, that makes it direct intruding in other person’s space, not the parent that worrying about her child.

And of course she was feeling uncomfortable because her child that she always controlled and, how she thinks, knew his all thoughs, in reality turns out to be a…. person.

And don’t forget about dad, that done absolutily nothing to help solve this situation. Because separeting them won’t solve the problem.

Only granpa always saw him as person. Older brother don’t count because he’s also suffered from those parents and not less then younger.

But because it’s MC’s parents and they was presented in normal way, I still give them chance to grow as humans

    thanks for the chapter~

    • I know this comment is a year old but I have to disagree with your perspective on the father’s actions being useless. Sometimes when things heat up like that did be mom n son esp since it’s the first time it ever has for them, it’s best to separate the 2 and givesome time to think alone. It would allow both parties time to realize how what they said might’ve been worded wrongly or hurtful etc. Then wen they r both clear headed, they can talk it out again. So dad did well there. What I am hopeful for is him to talk to mom about why shes so upset then go bck to comfort n work out the issue with mc. Is mom too controlling? Probably but that’s all the more reason why what he did was smart imo. If he let the argument continue who knows what couldve happened.
  7. Hmmmm. Not taking 2D story mom side BUT seems like she let her GUILT button get hit and totally went nuts for a minute. This mom and dad are written as both inattentive and overly protective… Hard to get a handle on them. We all love our little bun Mei Mei and are throwing daggers and getting out the flamethrowers BUT remember this is a flat character used as a foil for our mc and ml… 💕❤️

  8. the mother feels manipulative in my opinion…

who gave her the rights to scold meimei like that when she is part of the reason he is like this

and I feel like there’s literally no trust from her

    Thank you for the chapter!

  9. ~OmO~ i can’t with mama shen haysss. I know the parents point and children, but, i can’t seem to find the right word, this chapter is too heavy hayssss. Anyways thanks for the chapter ♡♥.

  10. These parents have issues and need to sort their thought process. Especially the mom. If they keep going like this then eventually they will estrange themselves from their kids.

  11. »Jian Mei didn’t want her mother to say bad things about his friend.« his mother

»But now, even though this stranger didn’t seem to teach his son bad..« her son

»Indeed, she could choose to take strong measures to force Jian Mo..« & »Jian Mo bowed down his head as he sat.« Both Jian Mei

The mother using the argument of knowing nothing about a person and still befriending them was so hilarious it’s already embarrassing x’D And for the rest of it, the other comments say it all..

Thx for the ch ٩( >ヮ<)۶

  12. I wanted him to go off on his mom so badly. You cannot be serious, you feel uncomfortable that he trusts a online friend more than you? Why do you think that is?? Are you fr?? Maybe try to be an actual good parent. And the fact that she didn’t even once tried to listen to his POV, that is not good parenting. You not letting ur own child have their own opinions is weird. You should talk about ur pov but should also accept his.

  13. Oh no 🙁 this problem has occurred in many households and i can understand both views but seriously doe parents often judge people too quickly especially in SEA countries. Although my parents don’t look through my phone without my permission i have some others whose privacy are often non existent because of this. Quite sad but i understand the reason behind their actions.

    Thanks for the chapter!

  14. This…. It is truly on point… Especially… I always argue with my mom when it comes to my decisions and on things i know and am more familiar than her while it’s always my dad who stops us… It stings my heart and relieves me a little to know that this isn’t only in my case… But… If i got to say as well…. It is indeed for our own good but it’s not guaranteed that it will be good to us…

  15. As a person who met similar cases from the people around me (I’m from Asia), I can actually relate to this. I just want to clarify that NOT all Asian parents are like this. But mostly, from what I see, mothers are usually the vocal type of person at home while the father was the passive one.

From my own experience and from what I heard from my other classmates and friends in the past, I would have to side with MC on this one. It’s actually common for people (as far as I can see in Asian countries) to be workaholic. Sometimes, the usual reason used for parents to justify neglecting their child and focusing on work is because “it’s for their own future” or “for them to live comfortably”. And the way for them to show that they still “cared” for their child is to push them to be friendly, obedient, and many other things.

In this case though, it can be seen that the mother doesn’t trust her child enough. Topping it off with the fact that she’s subconsciously guilty of neglecting her child and saw “someone” taking up the role that she should have. Moreover, she expects that that online friend was a bad influence and was proven wrong. And, her child opens up to that online friend more than she is. Finally, that online friend also takes up the role and do it better than her. Basically, her pride was hit hard and her “obedient” child even pushed that button and talked back to her. Also, I just want to mention that from the start, she also neglects her older son. Remember the part of the candy hawthorn, she reprimands his older son out of the blue and didn’t even greeted him when they arrived. Yeah, that’s bad parenting right there.

Mostly, parents that I have encountered neglects the mental and emotional health of their child. When I was young, I wasn’t even allowed to make friends with kids that my parents thinks are “bad influence” but are actually not (some of them are successful now even though their still young adults). It’s bcs some parents have the mentality that since they’re older, we are the child, they have more experience, and what they always say is what is “right”… and that what MC’s mother show in this chapter.

Anyways, I am not a parent myself so I can’t actually judge. However, it’s a fact that this behavior can harm the emotional and mental health of a child.

  16. The truth is Jian Mei is a very vulnerable person due to his lack of life experience as a result of sickness but also neglect by the parents. Because they are negligent, due to this they should be worried their child has an online friend who could probably lead their child wrong but after seeing the chat what his mum should do is try to be a good parent and talk peacefully with Jian Mei instead of acting the way she did. It’s actually her ego when realising how lacking she and her husband are as parents that spurred her actions rather than worry for her child.

  17. I feel bad for MeiMei. Sometimes parents really didn’t understand our point of view. It feels really bad. And the excuse that they are doing it for our own good it’s all fine but still atleast understand our views too and talk to us or explain what does “for your own good” means???

Children because of this starts to hide stuff from parents because they knows since parents won’t understand their view or point, no need to discuss it with them. I had a phase like this too. Thankfully my mum heard somewhere that you need to talk to your child to understand their view since then we usually talk about nothing and everything once in a while. But not many children are that lucky.

  18. Wow, this mother is all over the place. Hands off parenting yet over protective when they are present. Quick to anger and very little patience. There’s big flaws with their characters as parents, especially when they ignore their eldest to this extent. I can’t gauge how old Meimei is as well, second year junior high is 8th grade in the US, so he’s 13 or 14? Pretty young to be referencing him to be getting married.
