Luca pulled Ren inside his room. Ren looked around. This room was . . . also messy. Books were scattered around the bed, the sheets were unmade, and a thin layer of dust coated the furniture.
“This is the clean room?” Ren asked, side-eyeing Luca.
Luca coughed, embarrassed.
“It’s better than the last room. The servants can fix this up much quicker.”
Just as Luca said that, the sheets started to shift, and the books were propped back on the large shelf. The apparitions also dusted the bed, desk, and chair. The room was clean in no time.
“The bathroom is there, if you need to go.” Luca said, pointing at a smaller door near the window.
The curtains of this room were shut. There was a large bed located in the center, between two side-tables. One of the side tables had a small lamp, and a book underneath it.
‘Strange, did I have such a book before?’ However, Luca didn’t think much about it. He had many books in his collection, it was inevitable he would forget owning one or two of them.
“Ready for bed?” Luca asked.
“I’ll sleep on the floor, instead.” Ren said, eyeing the bed like it was made out of lava.
“You’re in no shape for that.”

Luca changed into his nightwear, and opened the top drawer, grabbing his spectacles. He put them on. He rarely wore them, as he didn’t usually need them unless he was reading. He picked up the book, examining the cover.

Luca felt a bit speechless, looking at the title. Since when had his reading tastes become so . . . Nevermind, the real mystery was how this even ended up in his house. But he couldn’t contain his curiosity, so he opened the strange book, and started reading.
Meanwhile, Ren washed the dirt under his nails, and scrubbed his face until it was clean again. He stared at his reflection in the mirror, as water dripped down his face.
‘When did my hair get so long?’ He thought, absentmindedly touching it.
His dark hair almost reached his back. It had not been cut even once since the time he spent at that place. Too many years had been wasted, but he finally had his freedom. Only now, there was a troublesome guy outside who wouldn’t leave him alone. Moreover, he had to share a bed with that person. Ren’s thoughts spiralled all over the place, before he finally mentally prepared himself.
He walked outside, only to find Luca reading a book under a dim light. The thinly-wired frame sat upon his face. His expression was serious and focused, and he looked almost elegant.
‘. . . And handsome.’ Ren was startled by his thoughts. No way! This scene was just a scam. The him previously was not elegant or handsome at all. Just annoying. And willful. And stubborn.
Luca was absorbed in the book. He barely started it, but he felt that there was too much melodrama in the beginning, to the point of it almost being a comedy. The book wasn’t good, but it was still entertaining enough that Luca couldn’t bring himself to stop.
It started with the female lead’s parents dying in a car accident, which was planned by her evil relatives, but she remained oblivious to that fact. Skip to a few years later, she fell in love with her classmate, and they were planning to get married. On the day of her wedding, she found out that her fiance was cheating on her with her cousin, and fled. Because this female lead had unique coping methods, she went to a bar, got drunk and ended up having a one-night stand with a mysterious handsome guy. Luca was surprised when he reached that part. Not the fact that the female lead was really irresponsible, but that the guy’s name was Zack Ellis.
Luca knew Zack Ellis was a CEO of another popular company, and also a fellow vampire, though they were only really acquainted through charity events. Was this author basing off their love interests on real people? Luca had to admit, it was a bold move. He checked the cover, only to find the author did not have their name on the cover, not even a pseudonym. He looked up from the book when he heard the door creak open.
As a result, he saw Ren’s expression go from entranced to frustrated in a span of minutes. What was going on in this silly child’s mind?
“Is something the matter?” Luca asked.
Ren snapped out of his thoughts, and shook his head. His gaze fell on the book Luca was reading.
Ren, “. . .”
Ren felt he didn’t even need to deny Luca’s supposed elegance, when Luca himself did it for him. What kind of strange vampire had he run into?
Luca, who noticed where Ren’s gaze strayed “. . .”
It took all of Luca’s willpower for him not to throw the book against the wall, and continue to remain calm. He shut the book, and put it aside, ignoring the situation, as if it had never happened in the first place.
“Let’s sleep.” He said, patting the space beside him.
Ren carefully climbed in next to Luca. He was really close to Luca. Ren could smell the distinct scent of lavender mixed with something else he couldn’t quite put a finger on. It was relaxing. He pulled the blanket over himself, and sank into the soft mattress. Despite having been unconscious for an undetermined amount of time, he was still tired. He was unsure what the future would hold, but for today, he was done with worrying about it.
Luca shut the light when he saw Ren climb in. An unfamiliar weight next to him felt comfortable. For the first time, he wouldn’t be alone tonight.
Before Ren could drift off, a sudden realization came to him.
“Aren’t vampires nocturnal? How come you’re sleeping too?” He asked.
Luca yawned.
“Only applies to pure-blooded vampires.” Luca replied, closing his eyes. But Ren had already fallen asleep, before he could hear it.
