A World AssimilationChapter 29

“What will you do with the Bow and arrow?” Shen Yu asked, pointing at the harmless looking wooden bow and a glowing bundle of magical arrows.

“You will be taking it.” Kai said, handing over the bow and arrow to Shen Yu, without considering whether Shen Yu was willing to take it or not.  hea284

But thankfully, after standing atop a corpse for a while, Shen Yu found himself getting adapted to the situation real fast. It was unsettling, but certainly not something to be too mindful of. Death was death, it was probably written as fate of the living. Although not something good and inspiring, it was a necessity in some cases, and Shen Yu was someone who had learned not to question Kai at every step of his decision. To each their own.

So, taking hold of the bow and arrow, Shen Yu carefully kept it in his space ring, following Kai ahead as they crossed over the corpse and continued onwards. Even if there were hidden dangers such as other dark elves hiding in the forest, scouting them, seeing their previous actions, maybe they would get angry even more or would cower in fear?

The further they went the more difficult the terrain became, with rougher slopes and slippery muddiness. “Take careful steps,” Kai reminded as his voice floated over to Shen Yu, who was right behind him, his head facing downwards and maintaining his posture to avoid twisting his ankle. Good thing he didn’t wear any shoes, because that way he would have slipped easier.

Maybe it was the shade of the tree or the shadowy fog filtering his gaze, Shen Yu didn’t realize there was a thorn inside the mud, and thoughtlessly stepped heavily on that surface to maintain his gravity. The sudden pain flaring up in his heel was enough to make him wince and whine. Stopping to take a look at his feet, Shen Yu found out that the thorn was almost black in shade, had a densely packed solid tip, it was piercing the heel so well that even standing alone on the other leg made it difficult to breathe.  JG42W1

When he prepared to pull it out, a slender but strong hand gripped his foot rather tightly.

Shen Yu jerked, peering up to find his face inches away from Kai’s, who was looking down at his bleeding heel with a serene expression, his eye lashes fanning the high cheekbones when he blinked. This up close, Shen Yu almost forgot the pain in the back of his mind. His dazed look remained until Kai pulled out the thorn with utmost care.

However, the pain was real. “Hiss- it hurts… it hurts,” Shen Yu grit his teeth, instinctively complaining when Kai kept pinching the bleeding area, it made the pain worse.

A little teary eyed, Shen Yu hit Kai’s shoulder and leaned against him, breathing in to control his agony. The thorn’s wound wasn’t simple, that was at least very clear to both of them.

“Be Good, little kitty, let me mend this,” Kai murmured, still leaning down to support up the bleeding wound, as a strange sensation ran through the touched area, it seemed to be healing magic.

Shen Yu puffed out hot air in response, his stance mellowing down seeing the other work so carefully, he let the man do what he was doing, just accepting the pain and gritting his teeth to stop his own whining.

The barrage was full of concerned fans, while some noticed the care with which Hunter helped Shen Yu. If one wasn’t aware of Hunter’s nature, they would certainly think that Hunter was a devoted little follower who treated Shen Yu as fragile vase. His touch looked tender despite Shen Yu complaining about it. Like in the history of Hunter’s infamy, he hadn’t lowered his head for anyone. But maybe this is why the fans could tell the difference when it came to Shen Yu. And who knows, maybe Hunter had dissociative identity disorder, it wasn’t something unheard of in some demonic clans, they practiced such intense methods that their body and mind had several backlashes. Although this is what some theorists considered, many general fans just thought it was the deep brotherhood at play again.  oiIrSu

A while later, Kai let go of his foot, and Shen Yu was relieved to feel the pain lessen, almost negligent in the face of the earlier sting, and maybe his elven-body healed faster. What was left was the dull ache of phantom pain and exhaustion.

Shen Yu wanted to jump and check his heel when Kai suddenly gripped his chin and tilted his head up. The little elf didn’t know what face he was making, but he clearly noticed when Kai looked on in amusement. “Such a little thing and you couldn’t bare it, now you are pouting… what will you do without me? When at that time I asked, you turned your butt at me and ran away… did you miss me huh?” Kai squeezed the other’s face, squishing his lips into a fish face, “if you leave my side this time I am telling you I will be very angry.” There was no warning in his tone even if he said those words, but Shen Yu heard the reconciliation as it was, he could only offer a small nod in agreement.

Kai ‘hehe’ed at the little elf and the little elf flushed in embarrassment.   XQSoi3

Then Shen Yu found himself flaring up in humiliation, “Who’s the glass vase…” he spit out, “Let me poke you with that thing and you-”

“Okay Okay~ I am the bad one here, happy?” Kai asked indulgently, but his lips turned into a mischievous smile and Shen Yu wanted to punch his face this time.

“I can bare a lot more, you are not the one who has zero cultivation skills, you don’t know how difficult everything is for me…” Shen Yu paused and added yet another sentence for effect, “Getting used to pain is not really something great, that just means you are masochistic.”

Kai burst into a small laugh, it seemed rather genuine yet did held some deeper meaning, “Again, my bad my bad, don’t pout anymore, you can complain a little if you want, I will still coax you.”  jrtwK6

Coax?

W-What was that? Shen Yu was a tough little nut; he didn’t need coaxing like girls!

Shen Yu pulled a long face, and stopped talking to the frivolous guy, Kai was not only weird in odd ways, but he was also making things difficult for the little elf. So, Shen Yu turned his head to the side, facing a small plant that grew on the foot of another tall tree. It had slightly golden leaves and a bunch of white flowers with small imprints of some sort.

“Come, let’s go, we have yet to reach a mid-point. The sooner we get to the town the better. Do you want another fruit?”  lYqCP2

Shen Yu hesitated, but still nodded, and Kai took out another golden apple without hesitation. “Here’s lunch, we won’t see civilization for another four hours from my calculations.”

Shen Yu nodded, taking the fruit, “Did Malcum’s master gave so many?” He doubted a master would offer more than one or two, like, wouldn’t it have to be expensive and rare for a master to give to his disciple? Or maybe the master was rich and didn’t mind giving fruit stocks…

“…why does it matter where I get your food from?” Kai asked with a quirked eyebrow, his tone lightly terse, “You just need to eat and get plump so that I can squish your cheeks like squishy.”

Shen Yu rolled his eyes, but didn’t ask anymore, he had an inkling that Kai was lying about the source of these apples… alas, he would obediently keep quiet about it, not like it mattered.  SDdJ8E

The two then continued to journey ahead, a barrier of shadow fog always trailing behind and around them.

After killing that Dark Elf, the spying colony of other species didn’t dare to make things difficult for them, but somehow it was very obvious that eyes were always looking at them.

Being at the back, Shen Yu’s heart palpitated for a while and only calmed down when he noticed the dense black fog getting thicker behind him. With a sentient shadow crawling after him, it was good enough consolation.

“What are your looking at?” Kai asked and turned to look towards the wondering gaze of the little one, whose eyes were wide and deeply focused at something behind them.   JCsk5

“Some… beings are following us, they are too close…,” Shen Yu whispered ahead, looking rather petrified with his findings. The killing intent wasn’t concealed and anyone with nil cultivation could also feel the notion. For someone who was participating for the first time, being targeted like this was not a good feeling.

On the other hand, Kai was rather nonchalant about it, “Let them follow us, not like they have the guts to attack us… if they had been foolish like that young dark elf, they would have been killed by me.”

Shen Yu shuddered, quickly facing away from them and looked forward, catching up with Kai. He was just thinking, if he really survived inside that mother tree’s domain, and if he had even managed to run away, would he have been able to find his way out of this dense foliage which didn’t even let light enter the grounds…

With so many enemies wanting his blood, it was almost impossible to maintain order and talk it out. For a puny little himself, even if he crossed the first hurdle of cultivation stage, it would have been impossible to fight it out against so many hidden dangers.  ryEBQY

With a slight hesitation still lingering in his heart, he trotted forward with faster speed, almost stepping on the back foot of the one ahead, he couldn’t be any closer to him than he already was.

Not long after, Kai chuckled about something, but didn’t say anything, and Shen Yu wasn’t brave enough to inquire, it was most probably about himself.

  1. A doting wife slave and a bullying hubby seem like they would be incompatible traits (bullying in bed not included) but here we are. Dear God, unless they turned off the feed the chat must be losing their minds. Wonder how long it will take for the chat to start a CP. I mean look at all this dog food/sugar sprinkled everywhere.
