A World AssimilationChapter 14

Before mapping the outside, Shen Yu thought of checking out the backdoor as well, it was right below the overhead cupboard, was it leading to a backyard…? He wondered if that backyard could be used for cultivation purposes…

But upon opening the door, Shen Yu didn’t find a backyard, instead, it was a small bathing area, with a wooden tub and a sink. Shen Yu didn’t think elves had toilets. Still, the space was so small, not even two people could fit inside, even he had to stand stiffly. The highlight of this miserable washroom was the tall mirror, an old one from folktales.   ZdTvJq

Looking at himself in the old mirror, he saw his reflection staring back at him. His face was the same, big gold eyes, small lips, soft chin and a small head. The difference was the set of pointy ears, and the long ass hair. He looked… pretty. He didn’t seem like a boy, neither a girl, but this elf business made him look even more feminine.

He was wearing a floaty oversized leaf tunic, which was designed with small sleeves and a big collar. There was no button in the front, but he could see lace behind his back that kept the tunic in place. For the lower half, he was wearing… short shorts, which were very soft and comfortable, made of a similar leaf material, but with finer threading.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

His long pale legs looked especially radiant in the open… too smooth for Shen Yu’s liking. But he wasn’t complaining, he still remembered having a phase when he hated his body.

The phase remained until he stopped thinking like his father, his mentality shifted during his senior year of academy, he met other boys of his age, and some were similarly small like him… at some point he noticed that he liked being flawless and soft, at the end he didn’t feel disgust towards himself when he looked at his androgynous face. So, he was onboard with this setup, being an elf was not bad.  lFdtUO

He touched his tunic and felt the material was strangely enough, more robust than cotton, but finer than silk. It didn’t feel odd on him, with his pale skin and pretty face, he looked like a doll, it certainly gave him an upper hand when dealing a fatal blow at enemies who underestimated him. His smaller stature could be used to his advantage… but…

Shen Yu frowned at his almost indecent short-shorts; it would have been better if it was a bit longer. Was this his nightgown, he didn’t see any dress in the cupboard, neither anything underneath his bed… will he have to dig out the floorboard? He looked aghast, at the thought of digging through dirt for some hidden treasure box.

Where was the mission announcement, he needed to know more about the history of his race.

With his barefoot, Shen Yu climbed on the bed, and looked out the small window that was situated at the foot of the bed. The outside scenery was that of day time, there was a field of white lily in the garden, and there was a pebbled path leading somewhere left. All around, there was greenery, and his living area seemed to be separated by huge mounds of small hills.

There was also a small window facing the back of the house, but when Shen Yu tried looking out, he saw nothing but a dense foliage of trees and shrubbery.

Just when he was deciding on taking a walk outside, he heard a loud sound echoing around him. Startled, he almost punched something, only to breathe in relief when he heard a gentle voice reporting to him.

By rule of assimilation, a body directly integrated with the mission world identity to avoid breaking World Laws. Shen Yu the human body, integrated with Vinir the elf, only forming a morphing bond where Shen Yu’s body made a few changes in accordance with Vinir’s original design.

It was the law of assimilation. To everyone, he would still be Vinir, who was probably already dead by the time Shen Yu integrated with him and snatched his social identity. Shen Yu had to behave like Vinir in order to avoid suspicion from family and friends. Shen Yu would have all the memories of Vinir, but it was only for keeping a check on himself in case he acted too out of bounds.  zv8jbc

It might be some strange game play from the higher dimensions, but no mission world resident would find it strange that the Vinir they knew, one day, had changed his entire being, including voice. This was somewhat of a parasitic nature of assimilation. And nobody knew why the Universal Laws didn’t send only the soul, but also the body.

Some researchers believed that in this manner, the host body would not be restricted. It was very creepy, but over time, transmigrators got used to it. And some researchers stated, it could be due to prior damage to the original body, so assimilation of both body and soul was necessary. What they needed was just the identity and the memory.

Shen Yu sighed, he was a newborn, which was especially specified, so it may mean that Vinir had not seen much of life, and Shen Yu may not receive his memories…

But he was not totally clueless. Every Cultivator had to take a compulsory 1 year course, in case they received a Ticket. It was not compulsory to pick missions, but if cultivators wanted to live longer and have better social status, they needed to participate and develop their cultivation base.  wuPB5e

Shen Yu had been immersed in this subject since he was 7, and including that 1-year course, he had some basic knowledge of how things worked. For now, he had to find out where this Scavendel was, its history, the residents, and sure enough, some information about himself without sounding like a clueless idiot.

Short of stepping out, he looked for some shoes to wear, but he didn’t find any, and recalled a paragraph from his previous research, ‘Fairies and Pixies wore minimal clothing on Planet Osba, some also opting not to wear anything, since it helped them gather spiritual energy without hinderance’, but he wasn’t sure about elven culture. All he knew from archived data was that elves were beautiful, powerful beings of light, with the strength to control earth magic, their main weapon was long range archery. Generally, they were very attractive and ethereal, with hawk like sharp eyes.

Every world had its own function and difference, Shen Yu would have to find out how this Scavendel worked, he also had to find the mother tree, such trees were huge and probably the base of every elven territory. If he was the light elf, there must be a society of dark elves. And going by the Mission Tip, there would be a lot of research work to be done prior to maintaining order of task handling. He was young and inexperienced, with his negligent base at present, no transmigrator would listen to him.

He would have to pick up faster than others in order to survive this world.   id8Gt

Setting out of the hut, Shen Yu breathed in the fresh air which surrounded the mound hills, his small hut nestled in between looked especially small… Shen Yu found it interesting. Were all newborns given such generous property land? He was pretty sure he couldn’t pay for it. Had Vinir been rich?

Shaking his head, he stepped on the pebbled path, the pebbled were hot under the glaring sun. Although not uncomfortable on touch, the strange sensation of walking barefoot was a new experience for Shen Yu.

After covering some distance from the hut, Shen Yu mapped out the area he was residing in, there were several ranges of mound hills running far and wide, and in between the mounds grew a lush vegetation which became denser towards the northeast. This entire area didn’t seem to have any water source, but Shen Yu felt if he went deep in the foliage, he might find a stream or two. He hoped water sources weren’t underground, because that would complicate navigation.

The sky was clear, and thankfully, there was only one ‘sun’ and the climate was lukewarm, not overbearing.   RuVZkA

There were several huts on the way, forming a straight line, leading towards the west. And all these huts were vacant, there was no one living inside them. Shen Yu had wanted to communicate with some elven folks, but he couldn’t find even one living soul. What’s more, he was not aware of how Vinir died.

Did he die of assault, murder, suicide or plague? The answer would have been nice, seeing how ‘haunted’ this locality seemed to be.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

He was also not sure how long the day lasted, whether it was a 24 hours/rotation or some other odd unit. If so, he may have to calculate that as well, given how long he had been walking for and the sun was still overhead. So, deciding to go for it, he took out a time reader from his space ring. It was a circular dial the size of a thumb, with a small red needle and scale markings, which used magnetic waves of the planet to determine the flow of time.

It would take a while for it to calculate, so Shen Yu kept a tight hold on to it, moving forward towards the source of the mound range. Because as he moved west, he could find bigger mound hills that were growing taller and wider with each passing hut.  kwaQgi

By the time he reached some local landmark, the mounds had become wide enough to pass off as a daunting valley. The huts had also grown in size, were more clustered in form than the smaller ones.

It was a vast circular dwelling, of at least 1000 household count, with a massive tree sitting at the center. He was not sure if this was the entirety of Scavendel, but the tree was certainly gorgeous enough to pass off as some main lead.

The trunk was wide, 100 people may not be able to circumvent around it, and it had leaves as big as Shen Yu’s height. It was so tall, Shen Yu considered it was close to reaching the size of a monument, his mind index compared it to a 40 storey building.

All else aside, he finally found other elves, and they were all gathered beneath that tree. Thanks to his sharp elven eyes, he could clearly see them even when they were miles away. He decided to spy on them at a closer range.  Q5dRaD
