Fei Li was already standing by at the entrance by the time Cheng Jin arrived at the military headquarters hospital. He was a man in his thirties, and had an ordinary yet imposing appearance.  JU tns

Living in an era where nearsightedness could be completely removed via surgery, he was still fond of wearing a pair of black-rimmed glasses, perhaps purely for the reason of accentuating his features as the glasses had actually made him seem more scholarly.

Chen Jin had crossed paths with him a ton of times. Fei Li directed a polite military salute at him and spoke, “Madam, I’ll take you upstairs.”

Cheng Jin’s heart brimmed with distress. Completely disregarding the past etiquette he had covertly noted down in his mind, he abruptly queried, “How is he doing?”

“Still under emergency treatment.” Fei Li reported as he led the way, “Lord general was injured internally by the Zerg race and his head was injected with some kind of toxic fluid when he was saving a subordinate. He’s currently being operated by the top five doctors in the world.” He walked on a few paces, but found that Cheng Jin hadn’t caught up. He paused and turned back, and saw Cheng Jin with a ghastly pale complexion. TpBy61

Cheng Jin’s body was trembling, each step was so heavy that he was practically unable to move. Fei Li said, “Please calm yourself. The doctor mentioned that the mortality rate was only 10%, and there’s high hopes that the lord general would regain consciousness.”

Cheng Jin’s still trembling body had calmed down a bit when he heard this calculated probability, but it was just a bit. He gazed at Fei Li, and asked with great difficulty, “What about the possibility of it leaving after-effects?”

The Zergs, formed with huge numbers, were of cruel and savage race and were quite adept with secreting toxic venom. They once invaded a small planet that lasted for a month and had let all the humans living there be infected by an epidemic, and everyone died within three days.

At present, they were now ranked as the second enemy of all mankind. The people who were poisoned by the Zerg’s venom however, would still suffer from various repercussions even if their lives were saved. And now that Lu Tao’s head had been injured, Cheng Jin almost dared not imagine what would be the aftermath for him.

Fei Li pulled his lips, his expression grew a bit more solemn. Only after a little while did he say, “It is an absolute certainty.”

The operating room was crowded with people by the time they arrived, including Lu Tao’s immediate superior, his colleagues and also his subordinates. Sitting in a wheelchair positioned in the middle was an elderly woman with silvery-white hair and face donned with creases, there was a woollen blanket that covered her knees. She was Lu Tao’s only living relativeーhis grandmother.

Cheng Jin’s arrival had made the people present give him a sidelong glance, after all, everyone currently standing here weren’t common civilians. Except for a few subordinates, they were all people who were aware of Cheng Jin’s identity. Lu Tao’s superior, Mo Si, had yet to speak when the old woman situated at the center produced a light snort in an ill tone, “Why did you come here?”

Grandma coldy pronounced, “You aren’t needed here.”

Cheng Jin was struck speechless, but Fei Li opened his mouth, “Old madame, Mr. Cheng is the lord general’s legal spouse, and whatever happens to the lord general, Mr. Cheng legally has the first right to know the situation, so I invited him over.”

When the secretary dropped the law, grandma stopped talking and no longer spared Cheng Jin a glance. She showed such an attitude that the others found it hard to talk to Cheng Jin, and it turned increasingly silent. Cheng Jin all the more quietly leaned against the wall, with his eyes fixed on the flashing red light in the operating room, his heart ached as if it was carved apart.

Unknowingly for how long, the red light went out with a beep. Everyone was agitated, with worried and expectant looks plastered on their faces.  8wkQsn

After another minute of waiting passed, the operating room finally opened, and the five chief surgeons rushed out in line, sweat marred their faces. It was quite evident that they were extremely tired. When the director of the hospital came out, Major General Mo Si immediately greeted him and asked, “How’s Lu Tao’s condition?”

The director revealed a smile and said, “He’s now out of danger.”

With this sentence spoken, everyone cheered, and grandma even chanted Amithaba from an old method. Cheng Jin, who was pushed out to the outermost edge, let out a relieved sigh and wanted to acquire more details but he struggled to squeeze through. Fortunately, Fei Li asked the question he wanted to ask, “Pardon me, when will the lord general regain consciousness? Would there be any repercussions?”

The director of the hospital said, “According to Dr. Tian, he should be waking up after 48 hours have passed, and that there will indeed be repercussions.”  sW1KMA

Everybody’s expression stiffened. When they heard the word “repercussions”, their hearts unavoidably drummed.

They were aware of various kinds of after-effects, lighter could only affect a part of the daily life, but heavier after-effects would cause people to suffer for the rest of their lives. More importantly, General Lu Tao’s status was so significantly important, and he was incomparably skilled, but if the aftermath would affect his combat prowess, he’d have to retire to the rear in the future. Because of this, an extremely promising young man was doomed to fall.

Mo Si’s facial muscles twitched, and his sharp eyes fixed straight at the opposite as he asked in a deep voice, “What are the after-effects?”

The director answered, “He lost his memories.”  bBxseD

This response bewildered everyone, and the director continued to explain, “The doctor said that his memory chip was corroded by the venom, so he would temporarily lose all his memories, and his personality would change.”

Fei Li grasped the gist of it. “You said it was ‘temporarily’?”

“Yes, temporarily.” The director’s tone was composed and unhurried. “Dr. Tian stated that his memories will recover as before in about six to eight months, as well as his body without affecting his combat capabilities, after being treated.”

Everyone was greatly relieved when they heard this, and several faces showed eased expressions, especially Mo Si, who wiped the formulated sweat on his forehead. It was known that Lu Tao was singlehandedly trained by him and his most powerful subordinate. He was prepared to let Lu Tao take over his position in the future, but if he had a major accident and needed to withdraw from the military headquarters, then his influence would be greatly lacking. gxaKqw

Cheng Jin’s heart also dropped to the ground, and was simultaneously baffled.

Lost all memories? So had he already forgotten about divorcing him?

Did God see that he really had repented, so he gave him a bit more time?

After receiving the good news, a large part of the crowd who were guarding here left, and Major General Mo Si greeted Cheng Jin before leaving. Without the others obstructing the way, Cheng Jin finally had the opportunity to stand in front of the person in charge and asked, “Excuse me… Can I see him now?” KUrxFP

The director was a little curious, “You are…”

Grandma was still sitting next to him, her eyes heavily sinking down on Cheng Jin’s face, causing him to feel a sense of guilt, but he still tried to speak in a steady voice, “I’m Lu Tao’s partner.”

The director quickly smiled and said, “Yes, yes you can, but he is still in the ICU. You can only look through the glass, though you might not see his face…”

Cheng Jin hastened to say, “It doesn’t matter.” His voice trembled with delight, “As long as I can see him.” k6elM9

The director said, “Then you’ll go in with me. The old madam will come along, yes?”

His mother nodded modestly, and Cheng Jin hurriedly said, “Grandma, I’ll push your wheelchair.”

The old woman glared at him, her tone raw with a hint of mockery, “No need to trouble your gracious self.” Saying that, she pressed the autodriving button herself and followed the person in charge. Cheng Jin paused, and immediately followed suit.

The military headquarters hospital was the best hospital in the world, with the skillfully contrived and advanced medical equipment. Cheng Jin and the others passed through the cold corridor and arrived in front of the ICU, where he saw the person lying on the hospital bed through the glass window.  cxaRe5

And now, this excellent man was lying on a hospital bed, with a glass cover placed on his head with numerous transparent tubes inserted, which was an alarming and extremely heartbreaking sight. Seeing this scene, grandma couldn’t help but stand up to see it more clearly.

She faced Cheng Jin with indifferent eyes, but she was full of love and affection for her grandson. Unfortunately, her legs had long been disabled, and she couldn’t stand up at all. When she stood halfway and about to fall, Cheng Jin agilely held her and softly said, “Be careful.”

Grandma immediately glared at him, swatted away his hand, and snapped, “I don’t want your help.”

Her words pierced Cheng Jin’s heart as if resembling a sharp blade. Seeing her avoiding himself like a plague, overlapping with his husband’s attitude towards himself, Cheng Jin felt uncomfortable, so he loosened his hand and said submissively, “I just couldn’t bear to see you fall down, I didn’t have bad intentions.” JQpABP

Grandma sneered, “You instead have too many bad intentions but no good intentions.”

She braced herself to look at her grandson for a while, but found that he really showed no signs of waking up now, so she could only sit back down and taunt Cheng Jin again. “What are you pretending now for? Expecting people to change their impressions of you? Just like an old saying goes, it is easier for mountains and rivers to change than to alter one’s character. You can never get rid of your bad heart! People like you, who threaten men to marry you in every means possible, should be banished to Hell Planet and reform through labor there!”

Cheng Jin’s complexion paled. Every word uttered dulled and wounded his heart, yet he couldn’t defend himself.

When he was 17, he fell in love with Lu Tao, who was 21, at first sight. Then he used the other party’s weakness to his advantage to force him to marry himself, and after a year-long tug of war, he had finally got what he wanted.  l7zD4A

Yet his marriage life was devoid of joy, cold and detached. He thought he’d be able to capture the other’s heart through skinship, yet unexpectedly, who would’ve thought that his husband would choose to enter the battlefield the very next day and from then on, was indifferent to him. Even if he returned once in a while, he was unfeeling and cold to him; enough to give him chills.

He made trouble in various ways, and concocted all kinds of schemes; his spoiled temper was magnified tenfold, but it only pushed his husband farther and farther away. By the time he repented and began to change himself, he had already lost his chance.

“I bet you’re glad to hear that he lost his memory, right? Think you can use all this period to keep your husband’s good feelings? I’ll tell you, it is absolutely impossible! My grandson only likes people with good morals, and he doesn’t have the least bit of interest with people like you!”

The old woman’s voice grew louder and louder, completely without qualms with the presence of outsiders. She watched Cheng Jin and grinned sardonically, “I look forward to seeing the day you break off your marriage.” hFcKWk

Cheng Jin kept his mouth clammed up, and let her mock him the entire time, waiting for her to finish before saying dryly, “Nevertheless, I’m still his legal partner now, aren’t I?” His vision fell on his husband lying in the hospital bed. “So I will shoulder the responsibility of being his partner and take good care of him in the days before he regains his memory.”

  1. Awww, he did so much wrong and that damn old lady doesn’t even want to realize that people can change over time. Even the other people don’t really seem to care if he maybe could be a decent guy even if he caused trouble in the past. 😭

  2. Shit this is breaking my heart ..

That grandma is Soo rude..I feel sorry for Cheng Jim but at least she loves her grandson …I guess..

    Thanks for the chapter 🥰🥰

  3. I see… Well that explains it then! I’m glad Cheng Jin changed for better but what was this weakness that he exploited? I can’t imagine that Lu Tao would give in to just anything, I mean he held out for a year! And why wait 7 years before getting a divorce? Must be deliberate too, no? Maybe he was trying to wait until he knew Cheng Jin would not have enough money to stay on the planet once they divorced??

  4. I don’t like MC. He didn’t divorce because he was going to get into “lower” planets. He coerced a 21 y.o. man to marry him when he was 17?? And we know that he isn’t rich. How did this mess happen 🤦‍♀️

    Thank you for the chapter!
