A knock sounded at Ye Xun’s office door, causing Ye Xun to pause in his typing for a second before going back. “Enter.” He answered.
Shao Yuhan entered the room with a cup of coffee and a bag of food in his hand. He walked over to Ye Xun’s desk, stopping with barely an inch to spare as he set the food and drink down.
Before Shao Yuhan could open his mouth, Ye Xun spoke first. “What is on the agenda today?” He did not look up as he reached for the coffee that quickly warmed his hand. He took a cautious sip, making sure not to burn his tongue.
“At 11, you have a meeting with Mr. Du over the new hospital construction. At 2, the board is coming over for a review, and at 4, Li Shan would like to talk with you.” Shao Yuhan swiftly answered without having to check over his notes.
Ye Xun finally looked up, pausing in taking another sip from his coffee. He glanced at Shao Yuhan with a raised eyebrow, “Li Shan? My mother’s husband? I don’t remember hearing or approving this.”
Shao Yuhan nodded, “He called an hour ago when you were with the president (of the company). I told him it was not possible, but he insisted that he needed to talk with you; he said it is important.”
Surprised, Ye Xun hummed for a second. If he had something to say or describe Li Shan, Ye Xun would say the man is a statue or a trophy husband. He said nothing and did everything his mother wanted. The man held no expression and was always still. Ye Xun wondered if he honestly heard the man speak before.
Sometimes, Ye Xun also wondered if that man was alive or if he was a robot. But, at the same time, he disliked Li Shan for being one of the men his mother cheated with when his father was alive.
“Fine, I will see him. But, next time, make sure to get this information to me quicker, understood?”
“Understood.”
“Anything else?” Ye Xun asked. Silently, he was happy there was barely anything today. His days are usually busy with meetings.
“No, sir.” Shao Yuhan responded.
“Okay. You’re dismissed.”
Shao Yuhan walked out, closing the door behind him. Ye Xun stared at his computer screen, tapping his chin as he thought about Li Shan wanting to speak with him. His curiosity could not help but grow, making it the real reason he agreed to the meeting.
I wonder how this will go? He thought before going back to work.
When lunchtime hit, Ye Xun stayed in his office, having a video call with Chang Min. Chang Min sat in his old bedroom, moving side to side on his rolling chair as he ate his food that rested on his lap.
“My mom is driving me crazy, Ye Xun.” Chang Min complained. His face had a soft blush on it. He told his mother he was having a video call with Ye Xun in his room, and her response made him blush like crazy.
“What did she do or say?” Ye Xun smiled with an amused expression. He also thought that Chang Min looked adorable with the braid in his hair.

Ye Xun laughed once more before leaning forward, resting his chin on his hand as he smirked, “You know, I wouldn’t mind having fun over this video call.”
Huffing, Chang Min rolled his eyes once more, “Well, keep dreaming because it is not going to happen.”
Shrugging, Ye Xun responded with, “That’s fine. I still have a good office for you to visit. My desk is very sturdy.”
Chang Min leaned forward, putting his face closer to the camera as he slowly ran his finger across his bottom lip. His expression turned coy, “Well, Mr. Ye, don’t I need an appointment to see you?”
Ye Xun shifted in his seat as his eyes grew dark, “You do. But I promise any time is available for you.”
“Hmm,” Chang Min hummed as he sensuously licked his spoon, “such a dirty, dirty man, Mr. Ye.”
“I can get very dirty.” Ye Xun slightly moaned out the word “very.”
Chang Min groaned, shifting in his seat as his pants grew too tight. “You do this on purpose, Ye Xun, I swear. I say no, and you somehow pull me in.”
“I know.” Ye Xun smugly smiled.
“Well, Mr. Smug, keep that expression because I am hanging up on you while going to the bathroom to deal with my problem.” Chang Min moved his hand up and down, demonstrating for Ye Xun, “I hope you picture it, Mr. Ye.”
Chang Min ended the call, leaving Ye Xun to stare at his home screen with a dry throat. His hand dug into his pants that were tight themselves. “Who is teasing who?” Ye Xun muttered out loud as he wondered if he should relieve himself here or go to his private restroom in the company?
Time passed as it hit 4.
There was a knock at Ye Xun’s door as he told the person to enter. Shao Yuhan walked in with Li Shan behind him. Ye Xun closed his laptop, moving from behind his desk as he walked over to the couch and armchair.
“Come seat.” He told Li Shan.
Li Shan moved to the couch as Ye Xun took the armchair. Seeing them already seated, Shao Yuhan left the room while closing the door behind him without being told.
Silence, with an underline of tension, filled the room as they stared at each other. A few minutes passed, and no one knew how to start the conversation before Ye Xun finally opened his mouth.
“Did my mother ask you to be here? I am already coming over next week; she needs to leave it alone.” Ye Xun started. He could not stop the disdain hitting his voice as he said, “mother.”
Li Shan shook his head before finally speaking, “No. Your mother doesn’t even know I am here.” His voice sounded deep and rough. There was even an underlay of tiredness in his tone.
“Then, why are you here?” Ye Xun’s tone became calmer than before.
The man sighed as he ran his hand through his hair, causing the greyness in his hair to appear more. “I was never going to talk about this; your mother made sure. But, I feel that I need to. It was something I should have told you long ago.”
“What?” Curiosity gnawed at Ye Xun’s mind, wanting to hear more.
Li Shan reached in his blazer, pulling out pictures. He gazed at them while his face turned soft with a small smile appearing. Ye Xun has never seen the man smile and wondered what was on the photos he tenderly held.
“Your father and I used to be childhood friends.” He set the pictures on the table, pushing them towards Ye Xun.
Ye Xun’s body turned stiff as he gritted his teeth. He would not have believed the man, thinking this was some ploy when his eyes hit the pictures. The photos contained Li Shan and his father playing around or with their arms wrapped around each other’s shoulders.
They even held a timeline, showing them from kids to adults.
His hands trembled as he picked up the photos, slowly looking at them as he drank in his young father. He held back from tears gathering in his eyes as he thought about how much he missed his father.
“We grew up together. People will always say you cannot see me without seeing Ye Heng. We were always together until I had to move away during the first year of college. I didn’t want to, but my mother grew sick, and I was the only one to take care of her since I was her only child.” Li Chan explained, his voice laced in nostalgia.
Ye Xun was quiet for a second longer, his eyes not leaving the pictures once. Then, anger grew inside him as he finally looked up, glaring at the man before him. “If you were a close friend to my father, why did you sleep with his wife? Did the friendship between you too mean nothing?”
Li Shan grew sad as regret filled his eyes, “I know I am a terrible person. Everyone knew she was married and who she was married to. But I still lay with her. Even if I and Ye Heng’s relationship was not like how it used to be, it was still wrong of me to betray him in this way.”
His anger went down a notch but did not go away, “At least you knew you were in the wrong. Most would deny it.”
Nodding, Li Shan continued, “Your mother grew pregnant from us being together.” He stopped for a second before looking away as he gave a bitter laugh, “Your mother did not want Li Wei or me. I did not care that she didn’t want me. It was not like I loved her. But, pushing away her daughter was wrong.”
“She loves pushing away people. But I did not expect that; she is always showing love towards Li Wei.” Ye Xun muttered.
“She didn’t love her at first. Li Wei would never know that; she thinks Li Hua loved her since birth. I love my daughter with all my heart and raised her by myself for two years before your mother wanted to marry after Ye Heng passed away.”
Ye Xun sneered at those words, clenching the photos in his hand.
Li Shan glanced back at Ye Xun, “You know, your father visited Li Wei and me two months before he passed away.”
Sharply looking at Li Shan, Ye Xun was surprised.
Softly smiling, Li Shan continued, “I thought the man was going to hit me or even curse me out. I deserved it. But, your father has always been a kind man that I did not deserve to be friends with.
“You know, he told me he forgave me? I thought it was dumb of him. But he did not have any scorn in his eyes and even gave a gift to Li Wei. We talked for hours that day, catching up on everything. He even held Li Wei in his arms, treating her with kindness.
“And I could not tell what broke me more: his kindness or him telling me he did not think he would last long?” Silent tears fell from Li Shan’s eyes. Even Ye Xun cried, quickly wiping away his tears.
No one deserved his father. He was such a kind man that Ye Xun could never hope to be.
“Do you feel anything for my mother?” Ye Xun asked.
Li Shan sighed, “No. But, I cannot divorce her. She uses my child against me, and I do not want to lose Li Wei. Why do you think I have always been a statue? This is just a marriage in name and show, I just.”
“If you had the chance to leave her without the consequences, would you?”
“In a heartbeat.” Li Shan quickly answered without hesitation.
Then, Li Shan stood up, straightening his blazer, “I must go before your mother wonders where I am. You can keep the photos; I already have copies of them.” He swiftly left without another word, closing the door behind him.
Ye Xun looked at the photos in his hand, tightly clenching them as he did not know what to say about what Li Shan shared with him.
“Father,” Ye Xun started, staring at the picture of his father in his teens, “I know you want me to be the bigger person, but how can I be with that woman?”
