I think it was mentioned, like the others they were so obsessed with SJ they wanted to kill them as a form of obtaining him. LY killed the others and did the deed to SJ, as to stop others from getting him. He (LY) did mention several times that he wanted to kill SJ tho, I mean his demons.

In the first chapter it’s mentioned that SJ was confused because everything that should be everyday live felt new and strange. My guess is that’s when SJs soul(?) entered the story and the difference from the first timeline. Though I’m not sure how long LYs soul(?) was in the story…
