The Enemy's Husband || 敵の旦那様Ch - Prologue

HATE was a malady.

A malady long embraced in the plains of the Kanglun continent; its incurability a pain people devoured. uKHdX2

On the east side of the continent, snow befell the land as cold ensnared the entirety of the mountain range. The blazing eyes and hot breaths of the soldiers clad in black steel armour, however, pervaded and overpowered any sense of cold as they banged their iron spears on the ground. On the sandalwood stage bound by flags fluttering in royal red and silver, a man in dark red robes stood majestically with his hands clamped behind, commanding not with his voice but his gaze. It was the Emperor.

The beat of cymbals and battle drums rolled on, roiling the dying battle cries. With each beat, the shrill echo of soldiers’ bloodthirsty chants filled the air.

“For the Empire of Silver Mountain!” the commander yelled.

“For the Empire of Silver Mountain!” Thousands of soldiers followed. btQGiJ

With ear-piercing whistles and maddening roars, the crowd began screaming the primary oath of loyalty to the Empire and the Dragon Emperor of the Silver Mountain. It was these three oaths that engraved them as members of the Silver Mountain Empire.

“To proclaim that this body, heart, and mind belong to the Empire alone” was the first oath.

To any civilian and subject of the Empire of Silver Mountain, this was the most important oath–the oath that completes them as one of the Silver Mountain.

The one oath that should not be forgotten.

“To proclaim that the Empire of the Blazing Sun and its people are to be absolutely hated.”

The third oath that nobody dared disobey was unleashed and soldiers spurred by hatred surged into battle. f4ubA3

The Emperor of the Great Silver Mountain watched as his soldiers departed, tweaking his royal moustache. He wished he could forget all else and head face-first into battle, as these

hot-blooded youths do. However, he was no longer young and the situation pertaining to the battle was turning out to be quite critical.

“I’m afraid,” the Emperor said, not tearing his gaze away, “that we have hit a dead end.” The advisor who heard this, knelt at his side and asked, “What are our plans, majesty?”

“A call for peace.” At his advisor’s stunned reaction, the Emperor continued cautiously, “We have battled enough. It is time now for peace.” 1ejPqx

On the other side of the continent, the situation was no different. The roars, cries, and heat were all the same. Only the colours and words were different. Instead of silver, metallic gold drowned the scene. Flags of black with intricate patterns of the sun on them flew about the air. Puffs of cold and snowy flecks rose with the voices as the soldiers chanted:

“For the Empire of the Blazing Sun!”

And the oath of loyalty of the Great Empire of the Blazing Sun lastly merged with the drums. “To hate the Empire of the Silver Mountain with one’s blood and bones!”

The eyes that gazed into the Blazing Sun’s soldiers was their leader–The Imperial General. His expression was unreadable, his mouth did not hurl one word out. His gait and eyes spoke volumes of the oath that his soldiers were yelling their lungs out with. Sp5EYh

Behind him, the Emperor of the Blazing Sun spoke, “Go.”

And he did. Gathering the thousands of soldiers behind him, the Imperial General walked right through the snow, clearing the path for those men who took pride in the blood they shed.

The Emperor, watching their backs, said softly, “We cannot go on like this anymore.”

The person behind him who heard his words asked, “What do you intend to do then, old man?” 3bPCWe

“Peace.” When he spoke, the shadow of the person looking down at him was startled. He knew his Emperor–and he was not a man to give in, not this easily.

“What are you planning, old man–err… Your Majesty?” The person was doubtful.

The Emperor smiled. “Peace, my subject. Peace,” he said and then looked at the other, cocking a brow. “Everlasting peace in the form of marriage.”
