The Enemy's Husband || 敵の旦那様Ch7 - The Hunt

General Haoran was so blinded by anger that he almost forgot the mission at hand; to find where the mosquito bastard had run off to!

This was not the first time that he had come across this type of elopement scene. There were more than enough instances when spies from enemy encampments who infiltrated their camps would elope once their mission was completed or when they caught a whiff of Blazing Sun knowing their plans. So chasing down possible culprits who were in a hurry to run away were not things he was inexperienced in. KRCTng

However, he never imagined that he’d one day have to use his experience in giving chase to hunt down his own damn groom.

General Haoran began face-palming. It was as if he was paying for a lifetime of sins in his former life in the form of an ugly marriage. He shoved his worries away and began looking for clues on the potential hunt mission before any evidence could be destroyed by natural conditions.

He reached out and touched the wedding robe that had fallen to the ground. It was still very wet, wetter than it should have been if human warmth had dried it for at least half the can-filling time (fifteen minutes). Which means he removed the robe soon after he was brought to this room.

And clothes—by removing his wedding clothes and leaving them behind, he should be in his undershirt and inner trousers right now. Nobody who could afford some amount of dignity would walk around in undershirts on the street… 83Frmu

No, wait. This man will walk around naked if he can. Normal human reasoning wouldn’t apply to him.

“Therefore, I’d have to check for people strolling about in their undershirts for the next two or three miles,” he thought, and he gazed out into the lawn beyond the window. “On horseback, it’ll take a good two hours to reach beyond the Song Trench and into the vendor’s corner… On bare feet, it’d take about six hours.”

His eyes widened as he contemplated and realized that it didn’t rain today at all and any culprit inexperienced enough to use such cheap gimmicks as dressing up brooms would definitely leave behind a footprint or two, if they were walking.

He immediately rushed to the window and saw that there were very clear footprints heading from the ground up in a certain direction.

His eyes lit up with a sense of triumph.

“Got you.”

At the Blazing Sun Military Encampment as General Haoran rode his horse at lightning speed and got down in a jiffy, his subordinates, who’d been making merry at the thought of their lonely General finally getting married, rushed at him looking extremely happy.

The General whipped his head around and shot him a glare that had him slowly retreating into the background, not daring to open his mouth for the rest of the night.

Haoran wanted to disappear somewhere—as if the frustration he was facing was not enough—these idiots, really! He sighed. Whatever plans he had for containing the rumours and keeping them from spreading were now doomed.

By tomorrow, the whole Empire would know that Imperial General Haoran’s groom had run away on their very wedding night. The bare minimum he could do was catch the little bastard before the imperial court summons him for an explanation—he was the groom and the one whose household the mosquito bastard belongs to now. T3uO5J

“Dispatch a troop, preferably from the hunting division,” he ordered, removing his red robe and throwing it aside. “Look for a man in his early twenties. Attire: commonplace undergarments and undershirts; build: thin and bony.”

All three of his lieutenants were present at the camp this time around too. They were all peers of the General and were still in the prime of their lives; hence, they did not have relationship commitments. Owing to this, on such a joyous occasion, they did not have wives waiting for them at home, and instead naturally spent their time fooling around with their comrades.

“General…” Lieutenant Shen Yue was concerned. “For you to come in the middle of your wedding night looking for somebody, is it perhaps a thief?”

“Does knowing his identity make a difference?” he asked coldly, his words un-withholding. “I want this man found, that’s all. Does the Lieutenant have a problem with that?” laZz51

All three of his lieutenants snapped back to attention. This was not their best buddy Haoran coming here to have a friendly chat with them. This was their Imperial General.

The moment their General addresses them as ‘Lieutenant’ instead of their given name or a “You!” accompanied with a scowl, they just know that the General has serious business with them.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

“What does his appearance look like? Any information about that?” Lieutenant Jiang asked after thinking for a while, “Although rare, some beggars who’ve sold their clothes on the streets are often in their undergarments as well; it’d be hard to track them down with just that. Hmm… What does he look like?”

“He looks… stupid.” gfpuLo

All three of his lieutenants froze. They had never witnessed their General so openly rebuking someone; he was so obsessed with his duty and honour that openly calling someone stupid was simply unthinkable to him.

“And… looks weak.”

Whoa, what?! What is happening today? What in the hell was happening today?!

Lieutenant Bing Ze, still not recovered from his shock, said, “I beg your pardon but General, that information absolutely does not prove to be of any use in the hunt of a person.” 38sCQS

“Right, but I’m not sure we can get a portrait of the person either.” General Haoran clasped his hands behind his back in thought. He could get a portrait done if he wanted to, but there really wasn’t enough time to for all of that. The imperial court would get to him before that.

“What about some kind of distinct feature only they would have?” Lieutenant Jiang spoke as he recalled a disappearance case he handled a long time ago, “like a blemish, a scar, or maybe vocal differences?.”

“He has the accent of a Westerner—one of the Silver Mountain.”

As realization dawned on them, his lieutenants stared at him, shocked. L36gri

“As for distinct features, he has the name Zhou Haoran burned across his chest.”

☆ ~(‘▽^人) Here’s another chapter! I think I’ll be sticking to 2 updates per week; One on Sunday and another on Wednesday until further notice. (╯✧▽✧)╯ Hope you liked today’s chapter! Also I’ve been seeing constant questions and doubts regarding the characters’ appearance so I’d like to take some time to answer the question today. First up I’d like to clarify that while more descriptions about their sense of dressing, etc. are coming up in the future chapters, I’m not a fan of describing every little detail about characters’ appearances because I want to leave some room for the reader’s imagination. (*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡

That said, I do however like to give elusive descriptions that reflect their personalities here and there. Below are the descriptions I’ve written previously for both characters. ouU2y7

Haoran’s face:

His lips and jaws looked like they were carved out of stone—the kind of stone that could break a skull or two. He was indescribably shocked when his own eyes collided with those of the other’s, not because his eyes were vindictive or hostile. In reality, they were eyes that resembled a ‘heavy lock’—sturdy, sincere, and dead set. It was the gaze of a man who was dead set on his duty and wouldn’t allow for distractions.

In a nutshell, he was bad news for a weakling.

Haoran’s hands gIT1jp

It was twice the size of a normal man, and he was absolutely sure that this wasn’t the norm.

Haoran’s build

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Was this guy…an elephant in his previous life or something? What did he eat to grow this huge?!

Fu Lin’s face: 7lzNAB

His eyes were wide—abnormally wide. General Haoran assumed he was simply shocked, but even after he calmed down and got up, his eyes were “wildly shocked.” It turns out it was the nature of his eyes. And his lips, painted with red rouge, were shaped as if someone had forced a cherry in between them. Both these things combined were the face of a man whose only expression was to look permanently shocked, and at a glance, it made someone wonder whether they had accidentally come across a fool.

He couldn’t believe that someone could look so average even with all that makeup.

Fu Lin’s build:

A slim figure in bright red clothes was standing outside. p4V29d

As the General came to stand in front of the groom, he realised that his groom was shorter than him.

These are the descriptions so far and more will come up in the future ♡(>ᴗ•) But if you have specific questions about the characters. E.g. Their eye colour, skin colour etc. drop your questions in the comments below and I’ll answer them individually. (* ̄▽ ̄)b

I’d also like to tell that while I can’t thank each message for individually for reading and commenting, I read all of your comments and they truly make my day. o(≧▽≦)o  Some of your comments are so sweet and I just („ಡωಡ„)❤ Have a nice day everyone!

  1. dfgdsagfyidsgfidyghvsndvjls;lkjpg i can’t believeeeeeeee!!! we have new chapter omgggggggggggg😍😭🔥

  2. Thank you for this amazing chapter. Mosquito is one hell of an headache for sure. He’d definitely keep the general on his toes at all times. To even think he’s a prince 😅😅😅… he sure doesn’t act like one at all. I wonder what would happen when he finds our dear Fu Lin.

    • I wonder what could happen if Fu Lin got caught? Stares sheepishly at Haoran’s 6 feet tall sword jk jk Look forward to the next chapter! Thank you for commenting and reading (´。• ᵕ •。`) ♡

  3. Fu Lin isn’t only a mosquito by name, but by behavior too! Running away as soon as he is found BAHAHA. I can’t, what a rocky start for a relationship. I adore this, it’s so original and fun!! ☆.☆

Also really fond of the way you choose to give infos KoTo, it’s great <3 but I’m very excited for the upcoming descriptions, since I love to visualize it all in my head. :3

Though I am curious, iirc, Fu Lin was described as “unappealing” by the General, I wonder why, is it his eyes? He looks so pretty on the cover!

Tysm for today’s chapter, I’m super happy about the 2 releases per week announcement, as long as it is comfortable for you ofc!! Take care, and don’t pressure yourself w/deadlines, we can wait<3

    • Hello, thank you for commenting! (⁄ ⁄>⁄ ▽ ⁄<⁄ ⁄) Answering your question as to why Haoran deemed him ‘unappealing’, there are a number of reasons owing to this.

Because he looked dainty and weak, remember how he despised people who looked weak? Yeah, he likes to act as if he isn’t prejudiced but he is Lmaooo.
Because of the background General Haoran came from. Fu Lin isn’t a peerless kind of beauty whose beauty people revered, he’s an average looking man who’s a little emaciated and physically on the slender side but General Haoran has had people who’re incomparably pretty pursue him, by that I mean the kind of beauty that can rival deities have chased after him. Annnd his groom that turned out to be the one who married him being just another average joe left him disappointed.
Because Fu Lin’s large eyes, cherry plopped lips and features combined made him look naive and foolish, this look of dumbness is something the General despised.

Sorry about the lengthy reply. Hope that answered your question. Have an awesome day!

      • I see! This is actually very nice & interesting, I love it!! (not surprising tho, i’ve been loving everything you’ve done lol XD)

Them looking like this just makes sense~ ☆.☆

Thank you so much for the long reply, it gave the insight I was looking for. <33

        • You’re welcome! I just realized I made some mistakes in the answer. I didn’t mean to say Haoran was a beauty whose appearance rivalled heavens, it’s his pursuers who’re the pretty ones. Although he is handsome (^ヮ^)/ I’ve corrected that in the answer, sorry about that!

          • Alr, got it, thank you for the insight!!

Honestly, I love that Fu Lin isn’t seen as pretty from these strict standards, it’ll feel even better when Haoran will start feeling all flustered~SOOOO excited for the upcoming chapterS >:)) do take care of yourself above all my dear, I wish you a great day & week!! <3

      • What a pairing honestly 😂 .

One despise weak dainty fool , one despise gaint elephant soldier.

        Made for each other.

They’ll spend theirs lives trying to change preferences. 🤣

        A tug of warrrrrrrr

        • omg, your comments are all hilarious Daisy, love to see you around!! XDD

They’re clearly the definition of “opposite attract” seeing how prejudiced they are towards one another from the start XD

  4. General should be f*ucking now And losing his virginity tag than doing goose chase 🏃🏇😆

    Thanks for updating wohoo

  5. Chapter was short but funny!! and 2 updates per week???!! It was the best possible news😍I would really like the general to consider a punishment for prince(¬‿¬) heh heh heeeehhhhhhhh

  6. Indeed! Can you tell me what color the general’s eyes and hair are?ಥ_ಥI think I fell in love with the general😔😂gooooddd world as always☺❤

    • Hello, your comments are always so heartfelt, thank you for supporting TEH (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄) .。o♡ Answering your question, General Haoran has pale, leathery skin weathered by the harsh winds and training and eyes that are brown-black, dark and shiny like locks immersed in grease. His hair is black as well, jet black and sleek because he likes to keep them oiled and groomed all the time.

Hope this answered your question! (≧◡≦) ♡ Have a nice day!

  7. It was true that marriage changes a person! The general is completely upside down😂I think the looks of his three lieutenants were like this:(ÒہÓ) (;ʘ¿ʘ;) (⊙…⊙ ) 😂😂😂I will surely die before the next chapter is published😗I really love your novel KoTo-Chun😋❤

    • Hello, so I don’t know Spanish and when I translated this to English, it said, “What is the color of mosquito’s eyes and hair?” so I’ll be answering that question. Fu Lin has black hair as well, unruly and messy and it’s a more toned down black, not jet-black like the General’s. His eyes are dark brown, close to black in shade and they’re like mirrors, clear and open but unreadable beyond what he decides to show. I tried to stick to realistic colours since this story doesn’t really have fantasy element that could grant them different coloured hair/eyes.

Hope that answered your question! Have a lovely day (´。• ᵕ •。`) ♡

  8. Bad mosquito, bad mosquito, whatcha gonna do when they come for you — 🎤

Can I just say I like that Mosquito looks like a normal person? It’s really easy to forget most people aren’t super attractive when reading romance novels and the normies deserve love too… Even when they’re being hunted down like an animal 😬
