The Emperor’s Favorite Imperial Concubine is an OCh37.2 - Fall Off The Horse (2)

Chapter 37 掉马 Fall Off The Horse, means that when someone falls off from their horse, their cover is blown or exposed.

Wen Mingyu was almost scared to death. Xzc9on

He was right to make meticulous attempts to tighten his vest. The ancients were too horrifying.

Mu Zhan was unmistakably an alpha, so didn’t he have an animal form as well? Shouldn’t he be ecstatic to come across a kindred spirit who has a condition similar to his own—why does he still want to devour him! Is this logical?!

Wen Mingyu was both aggrieved and enraged. He was truly afraid that Mu Zhan would swallow him. He wasn’t even big enough to squish between his teeth. Why then, should he want to eat me!

Mu Zhan held the little rabbit in his palm, entirely in his possession, and felt an inexplicable sense of serenity and fulfillment. IZPFqN

He touched the rabbit carefully, brushing it down its fur from ear to tail.

“Be good and stay with me for a nap. When I wake up, I will look for you.”

Mu Zhan did not address himself as “this one” for the first time. His voice was uncharacteristically affectionate. Wen Mingyu, however, was still in disbelief and fury about being devoured and paid little notice to this discrepancy.

Mu Zhan lay down once more with the rabbit in his palm, closed his eyes on the wide couch bedtext in paragraph, and fell asleep.

With so many hectic days and so little rest, even if he was very capable, he would still be exhausted. Just now, too, he was fending off fatigue as he half-squinted caressed the rabbit. His voice, too, was scratchy, and his sentences were muddled and delayed.

It was just that Mu Zhan’s normal influence was so forceful that at times like this, Wen Mingyu didn’t even suspect he was half-asleep.

The little guy, Wen Mingyu, was curled up in Mu Zhan’s palm. wS9bza

There was no movement after a time.

Mu Zhan was fast asleep.

Wen Mingyu glanced up stealthily to double-check. After making sure, he then began to shift gingerly, inch by inch, seeking to break free from his prison-like grasp.

Because of his plush body and silky fur, everything brushed against Mu Zhan’s fingers. He curled up, tucking his paws under his fur to make himself even smaller, while struggling to suck his tummy. JlQwg9

He’s only somewhat hairy and not particularly chubby. He can be squeezed.

Wen Mingyu pushed himself out of Mu Zhan’s tiger mouth like a glutinous rice ball. He was worried about waking Mu Zhan up with a single movement, so he glided very, very slowly. He was practically desperate to transform himself into a puddle of water that leaked from between his fingers.

Hard work pays off for the bunny whose heart is on the right path.

He eventually slid halfway out of Mu Zhan’s hand, looking like triumph was on the way. 0GiaXV

Wen Mingyu was thrilled, his ears twitching as he lifted his paws and crawled out.

But just then, Mu Zhan’s hand moved, recapturing the lop-eared rabbit and wrapping his entire hand around it.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Wen Mingyu slumped into his palm, his face soulless and devoid of love, as if he were a salted rabbit.

Jailbreak failed. sqDlv

Wen Mingyu cocked his head to look momentarily and found that Mu Zhan was not awake at all. He simply moved his hand unconsciously to grasp something close.

As a result, Wen Mingyu reverted to his human form, and, naturally, without a stitch of clothing on his body.

He grabbed the clothes he’d left aside and frantically put them on.

Fortunately, Mu Zhan’s notoriety was so widespread that no one dared venture to enter without his authorization. Otherwise, this scene would have been viewed, and people may have easily misinterpreted it.

One lay on the couch bed unconscious, whilst the other stood beside the bed, putting on his clothes in a flurry, as though a merciless, despicable scumbag. 2ZJhl5

Wen Mingyu dressed quickly and dashed out of the hall, seizing the door and fleeing, fully ignorant of the thin, golden chain that had slid to the ground. It was none other than the anklet Mu Zhan had given previously, which had fallen off with his garments when he had transformed into a rabbit.

He didn’t want to leave, but because his thoughts were consumed with reluctance earlier, he overlooked something crucial. He is an omega who goes into heat and occasionally spontaneously transforms into a rabbit. Can he keep it a secret for the whole of his life? Can Mu Zhan, a man from a time long ago, comprehend and accept the presence of a demon-like creature like him?

Today’s accident just provided him with the answer.

Mu Zhan truly believed he was a monster, and he looked at him with a terrifying light in his eyes, as if he wanted to tear him apart and devour him into his gut. Mu Zhan really said so, too. 0vyD2t

Wen Mingyu was very fond of food and especially loved hot rice, but it’s a whole different matter when the food being eaten transforms into him. Mu Zhan’s animal form was most likely the natural nemesis of bunnies, who enjoyed bunnies very much.

He had previously reasoned far too simplistically. Would he have believed what others said about ABO, which seems incredibly preposterous in this day and age, if he were in his position?

And talk about him finding him when he wakes up.

You’re going to stew me and eat me when you wake up, won’t you? TLQpE7

Only an idiot would wait.

Wen Mingyu returned to his bedchamber. He didn’t pack his belongings and only took some silver money, then made an excuse to excuse himself from the palace servant. Then he transformed into his lop-eared rabbit in a corner. He wadded his garments and wrapped them into a lop-eared rabbit with a bundle on his back and galloped away, sprinting along a route where few people were crossing.

If someone from the future saw this scenario, they’d probably say something like, “Is this some kind of traveling rabbit game?” The fuzzy, lop-eared rabbit lugging the luggage heavier than itself was somehow strangely adorable.

Wen Mingyu’s escape path went rather quickly since he had initially planned it, and his diminutive stature allowed him to readily conceal. Therefore, he was able to dodge the patrolling forbidden guards and ultimately raced out of the Xing Palace’s bounds. GuYyi3

Around the Xing Palace was a stunning setting of hills and waters. However, because it was inside the borders of the Imperial family’s hunting grounds, the general public was not permitted to visit, and therefore there was no evidence of human habitation.

Wen Mingyu had scruples about returning to his human form. The trek to the nearest town was too far away for the small lop-eared rabbit to make. If someone came after him, the human form would be easier to track down and capture.

A small lop-eared rabbit hides in the undergrowth, carrying a huge burden and looking serious in thought.

He was tangled for a time. 7TLdGH

Above his head, there was a boisterous bark.

Wen Mingyu turned his head and discovered a healthy and robust medium-sized canine that resembled a wolf, with its fur checkered with black and white. It had three clumps of white fur on its brow, like three flaming flames. It fixed its glare at him with ebony blue eyes that were rather cruel and menacing.

The large dog suddenly uttered a hooked woof, its fluffy tail whirling about. Its pointed ears pulled back against its forehead in enthusiasm, its mouth wide and tongue out, and it went from a menacing wolf to a foolish simpleton in an instant.

Perhaps the inhabitants of the Central Plains mistook it for a wolf because they had never seen one before—after all, no such breed existed in the nation and it had been imported from afar. But Wen Mingyu recognized this was a dog. This was the type of creature that seemed regal, unfeeling, and harsh—the monarch of dogs—but was actually a dumb and stupid dog. This was the legendary furniture-destructor—a husky. pzGEd9

Wen Mingyu grinned slightly and participated in a beautiful and mystifying communication of animals.

Eventually, the eager Husky agreed to give him a ride to a neighboring town. He lowered his head and seized Wen Mingyu’s bundle in his teeth, flinging it backwards, enabling the rabbit to perch on his back. He let out a sonorous woof and stretched his paws in a wild run towards his intended destination.

Wen Mingyu would have rolled backwards and tumbled to the earth if he hadn’t foreseen this and clutched the fur on the dog’s back. The dumb husky would have had no idea and would have continued to run gleefully with his tongue out, smacking on his cheek, leaving Wen Mingyu with a dusty face and a stylish back.

Along the way, the large dog would stop midway to play. His paws would stamp on the grass restlessly, getting himself coated in grass clippings and making him even less likely to be connected to something awe-inducing. jm IZH

After a mad dash and some halfway frolics, a dog and a rabbit finally come near a neighboring town.

People need a road guide to enter and exit towns, whereas animals do not. They were not so much in the limelight and had their own exclusive access.

The silly brothers found a decent dog hole with pinpoint accuracy and drilled through it.

Wen Mingyu finally arrived in an inhabited area. He had no time to rejoice in the unimpeded arrival when he caught the faint sound of discussion. SAjYXs

“What’s for supper tonight?”

“Well, let’s see. What about a spicy rabbit head? It’s Chunsheng restaurant’s signature dish, very peppery and tangy. It’s so good that you’ll want to eat it again and again.”

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Wen Mingyu felt a cold chill on the back of his skull right away—the safety of the rabbit’s head was not ensured. With a whimper, he almost cried out.

The rabbit is the signature dish?! Gid7RH

And these folks also like eating it!

Wen Mingyu was so struck with grief that he couldn’t wait to pass out on his brother’s back once he finished wailing.

It’s extremely difficult for rabbits to survive, and perhaps they will not see the sunrise at all.

Mu Zhan said he wanted to eat him; did he think eating a demon would be a great tonic? But he was a salted rabbit, incapable of standing if he could sit and incapable of sitting if he could lie down. He was coated in flabby flesh that wasn’t chewable and was really unpalatable. He was quite difficult to consume and provided no benefit! bkhKUs

Wen Mingyu bellowed within, virtually becoming a tearful and cranky fried rabbit with conflicting feelings.

When he arrived at his destination, he had to bid farewell to his canine buddy.

The husky plopped down on the ground and sniffed at Wen Mingyu as he slipped down. He waved his paws and thanked him by giving over a few pieces of chipped, rusty silver, saying it would buy a toothsome meal.

One dog and one rabbit, clearly of separate species, managed to communicate with each other by grunting, woofing, and waving their paws. XB5Kgv

The husky woofed with delight and dashed off to the stall, silver in his teeth, to go shopping.

Hence, the steamed stuffed bun shop boss watched in incredulity as a dog raced up to him, put down the chipped silver, and then barked and urged at a steamer of meat buns, his panting tongue out.

The owner, confused, tossed the meat bun and gave the cute dog his change. Until the dog went away with the bun in his mouth, the boss maintained an expression that the world could be so damned magical.

Wen Mingyu, on the other hand, sought a distant corner to return to his human form. He put on his clothing and did not rush out, but instead utilized the make-up skills he had learned from his previous part-time job to touch up his face. Before walking out, he painted his facial features in a very generic and unidentifiable manner, so that when tossed into the throng, he would not even be glanced at twice. CZtrxz

If Mu Zhan launched a manhunt, he would most likely discover this location shortly. To play it safe and attempt to get himself out of the reach of the search, Wen Mingyu adopted a highly stable way—cross-dressing.

It’s old school but useful.

The trick was to use the proper make-up technique and lay emphasis on the little things.

Under the pretense of buying a gift for his younger sister, Wen Mingyu purchased a ruqun and restocked his rouge and face powder. CVRv0F

The money in hand was quickly depleted by 20%.

When he fled, he didn’t take much money with him. The palace, brimming with pearls and gems worth fifteen cities, was all imperial treasures with royal markings; he’d be busted in no time if he went out and hung those. As a result, all he had in his hand were some silver scraps and some small silver paper money that he had swapped with San Xi under the guise of fooling around.

The subsequent step was to look for a place to reside.

Because the inn was simple to check, he had to occupy a room to reside in. His gaze traveled over the structures within his target area, scrutinizing them without altering his face for over half a day; then, his gaze finally settled on one. RM9YK1

Sun-niang, the house’s mistress, was a doughty, shrewish woman, who was cool on the exterior but fiery on the inside. When her husband passed away, she was left to support the household, run a business, and raise her children on her own.

Before knocking on the gate, Wen Mingyu had a good script in mind.

The servant, upon opening the door and hearing the purpose of his visit, retreated, and only after a time did Sun-niang come over.

“How come you, a young lady, end up renting a place all on your own?” A82rZE

Sun-niang had reservations.

Wen Mingyu anticipated the question and instantly put his acting skills to work. His eyebrows wrinkled slightly, and the rim of his eyes reddened. He attempted to speak, but tears intervened first.

Sun-niang was kindhearted and couldn’t tolerate the thought of a young lady being wronged. So, with a sharp tongue but a tofu heart, she scowled and said, “If you want to say something, just say it. Why are you crying? Do you still wish to rent a room?”

Wen Mingyu struggled to hide his emotions while appearing to be tough. “I’m not going to lie to you; I came here to hide from some people. My husband died of sickness, and a wealthy local merchant compelled me to be his concubine, forcing me to flee from my village…” V8HamK

Although there were merely a few sentences, the tone was rather placid, not purposefully selling misery, but merely appearing to be a little dejected.

Sun-niang’s anger surged up when she heard this. “What sort of dogshit is this? How dare he have the nerve to take advantage of others, take what others have by force, and not even let a widow slip off!”

She was about to ask why she didn’t go seek refuge with her family, but then on second thought, why did she escape if she had been able to rely on them. Sun-niang couldn’t help but reflect on her own predicament. Her husband died, and her mother’s relatives assumed she was already a member of the Sun family and refused to assist her, so she had to fend for herself.

At this thought, she gave Wen Mingyu a more sympathetic gaze, as if she had finally met another sufferer. “Why don’t you come in and chat first? What’s your name? ” She said, distressed, her voice softening. tQuHxv

To avoid not reacting when called, Wen Mingyu chose a character from his name, modified his common surname, and stated, “My name is Li Yu.”

“Ah, Yu-niang, not bad. What a great name.”

Wen Mingyu shuddered stiffly as he listened, and chills sprang all over his body. He was starting to reconsider his decision to cross-dress and adopt this name!

The author has something to say: Mu Zhan: Where is my big wife? How come he’s gone?! EfTON1

He flees, he chases, even if he grows a pair of wings, he’s unable to escape. (bushi)

Some treasured babies (readers) don’t want to see the episode of escape, but it is a very important turning point in their relationship. It is to move the feelings forward and then talk it out completely. It is because of this care that the jade cub is so afraid that Mu Zhan will not be able to accept the secret of his rabbit form. He doesn’t dare face it. He won’t be abused even if he runs away. It’s always sweet, sweet, sweet, and he’ll be caught back soon.~

Please visit chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

PS: The silly husky was raised by Wei Yingwu. Because the jade cub mentioned this kind of dog to him, he was curious and bought one. As a result, the silly husky tore up his house and ran around all day. The rabbit mint was sent by Wei Yingwu, and it was his dog who led people to escape. It can be said that Wei Yingwu was a winner and also a failure. Ha ha ha ha ha _(:3」∠)_

In addition, the rabbit mint will make another appearance and Mu Zhan will get a lot of them. =w= 2qXdQO

ChiFu: I have decided to take a break for one month once we hit 40 chapters.~ Tell me if I should stick to ‘she’ when rabbit cross-dresses! XD

Thank you to Kofi supporter for the kofi!

Tightening the vest means not letting anyone know your cover/identity. Another meaning is in fiction circles, a vest can refer to an author’s pen name, and an author may have several vests. To drop a vest is to be discovered by the reader under that pseudonym.

Translator's Note

Yes, this is the first time Mu Zhan uses “me”.  All the past conversations, he refers to himself as “Gu.” Sometimes, I would use “I” for convenience’s sake.)

孤:gū: Orphan, solitary, alone. The meaning refers to the death of a father or both parents at a young age. By extension it means, “alone.” It can also refer to the “The self-proclaimed emperor of the ancient times.” In a way, they are both orphans. :)

  1. Big escape! Hubby going to be worried and look around as crazy~

Thank You for the new chapter ♡〜٩( ╹▿╹ )۶〜♡

  2. I like calling Yu-niang ‘she’ in the sense that it means he was successful and that we’re seeing him as others do. The husky is hilarious, and honestly I wondered for a minute if Wei Yingwu had a second form as well. I’m excited for Wen Mingyu to get found by the dragon who will not be fooled by a disguise unless there’s also stinky perfume 😄. Hopefully the sympathetic widow will come out better than she started, just for keeping his lil bunny safe.

  3. Hehe fun part now >:)

I think since the character is still male it’d be confusing if you referred to him as she, unless the pov changes to something that’s not his own pov

  4. HE RAN AWAY 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Overracting 101, WM aced that class.

Looking forward to having the hubby find his waifu and take him back home, huhu~
