The Black Saint is My StalkerCh42 - One pair of heels

In a messy motel room, a woman with messy blond hair was in a hurry to make her escape.

Her belongings were thrown about the room, clothes on the bed and dirty floor along with other things like her hair curler, shoes, totems, and dried wreaths. rvhn x

There was no time. The woman ran a shaking hand through her hair and began tossing random things into a tiny suitcase. One pair of heels, a set of clothes, some of her essentials—

But there was a prickling feeling on her nape that made her drop the velvet satchel in her hands. It plopped on top of her messy stack of clothes. There was something in the air that had shifted. She was almost certain. And yet, her barrier remained intact, and she couldn’t hear any magpies calling to warn her of encroaching danger.

There was a reason why she was one of the few of her sisters that yet lived. Her sixth sense had yet to be wrong.

Cursing under her breath, she rose to her feet and wrestled to close the suitcase. She couldn’t take everything with her but she thought to herself, she would have to be alive first to count her losses. OQdhM3

But it occurred to her then that she might have forgotten something important. Cursing, the blond woman rose to her feet and rushed into the dingy bathroom where the lights constantly flickered and the corners bore signs of rust and mold.

In the sink was a black iron bowl. The water within was tinged red with rosemary and dried flower petals drifting about. With shaking fingers, she clutched the edge of the bowl and was about to dump out the contents only to pause. The woman placed the bowl back into the sink and took a long breath to steady her beating heart.

Her eyes closed, the lids fluttered and seized. The darkness turned into a tunnel and she found herself swimming between dimensions.

‘Patricia?’ Her soul echoed like tendrils reaching out. But in the vast darkness, there was no response.

‘Susanne?’

‘Amelia!’

All she could hear was a deafening silence.

Losing hope, the woman was about to open her eyes. But just then a glimmer of something latched onto her consciousness. She jolted and clung to it desperately. MbjdPB

Flora drew in a breath, sharp. She scooped up a handful of crystals and took the photo too before running out the door.

She didn’t make it far.

The parking lot was eerily quiet, with but crickets that sang under the moonless night. Flora, who relied heavily on her magpies when her sixth sense was unavailable, only noticed the danger too late.

Something was at her feet and made her trip. She screamed, falling over as lights appeared before markers on the floor, drawing out something akin to a sorcerer’s circle, only artificial. A cage of light formed around her, binding her to the ground. aU5V1H

Flora cursed, the hair on the back of her neck stood on end at the sound of footsteps across the pavement. Her captor’s black boots came into sight. Sleek black legs were encased with a leather-like suit. It was some sort of synthetic material that was developed by the DASR, Flora did not care for the details, but she had heard tales of these black-clad reapers that hailed from the Association.

Flora gritted her teeth, her fingers tightening around the crystals in her hand until the sharp edges dug into her skin. She did her best to steady her breath. She only had one chance.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

The female hunter’s voice was youthful, girlish even. “You know, there’s something that I really don’t get,” she spoke as though talking to friends, casual and nonchalant, contrasting the thick tension of death that simmered in the air. It was almost as though she wasn’t Flora’s executioner.

Her posture was relaxed, leaning on one side and a soft plop sounded repeatedly, as though she was tossing something around in her hand. Flora couldn’t crane her neck up to see what it was. “The Black Lily Coven was a state-sanctioned coven. Why go out of your way to summon a higher demon? You do realize that this is just going to give the NUM more reason to instigate more anti-supernatural laws, right?” bxfJoy

The crystals cut so deeply that they were scraping against the edge of tendon and bone. Flora’s mind was whiting out from the pain but it was just what she needed. She grinned, anger festering within. “What do you know about state-sanction laws? They’re just pretty words on paper that mean nothing!”

With a quick flick of her wrist, she turned her bloodied palm upward. The crystals shattered into tiny pebble-like pieces, mixing with the red of her blood. They shot out, imbued with Flora’s rage, and wreaked havoc into the small mechanisms that emitted the light cage.

Her bounds dissipated and Flora leaped backward, regaining her balance. She wasted no time fling her bloodied hand, specks splattering to guide her hatred and the shards of crystal towards the huntress that stood before her.

The huntress was still humming in contemplation, completely unaffected about the situation. A dark visor obscured her eyes, a red ponytail billowed in the wind, contrasting her dark attire. She was playing with a round object in her right hand; metallic, with an X etched atop. The DASR’s logo was printed in the middle, a shield with a winding serpent. oTD8zr

It was only when the crystals were but a foot away did she finally kick herself into gear. The huntress smirked, launching the metal ball into the air before she twisted her body out of the way. Bloodied shards of crystal whizzed by her but Flora wasn’t going to make it that easy.

She turned her wrist, commanding the shards to turn their course and zero in on the red-haired hunter.

But all she was rewarded with was soft laughter. “You know that this is futile, right?” Even with the shards zooming in from all directions, she was not daunted. Using the metal armor that coated the forearm section of her suit, the huntress deflected the bullet-like crystals. Flora noticed that there were knives strapped to the huntress’s legs but she didn’t even bother reaching for those.

Flora took a step back, her eyes darting around for an opening. LuzcmG

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” the huntress sighed.

“I’m not afraid of you,” the witch hissed, sending another shard right at the huntress’s face.

The huntress snapped her arm and without any effort at all, plucked the shard right out of air. It vibrated in her gloved fingers but the sharp edge was helpless in cutting through the black material.

Left with nothing else, Flora used her own nails to dig into her bloodied palm to let out more pain, more anguish, and life energy. She bit back the screams and snapped her finger, the shard in the huntress’s hand exploded close to her face. z21GWP

A high-pitched cry left the huntress’s lips, her head flinched back from the explosion along with the sound of cracking glass.

Flora took a step back before making her escape, this would be her only chance.

But that chance had been an illusion all along. Because the moment she took a step outside the Seeker-X20’s designated zone, a spearhead was shot right through her heart. She didn’t even notice when her body locked, pain spreading from her chest.

When Flora looked down, she saw a red gaping hole. Blood bubbled from her lips and she fell, with the last of her strength she cursed the Hunter’s Association. lrGmHc

“Tch,” Marie-Josianne clicked her teeth as she peeled her visor off. There were small bits of shard embedding in her cheek but they were just minor annoyances. She padded the sore area and huffed, frustrated at her rookie oversight.

She blamed the boys for riling her up.

Of course, in truth, the fault was her own to bear. The witch’s corpse was growing cold and the trusty Seeker-X20 was already filing in the report. DASR toys were always so cool and nifty, Marie-Josianne loved field testing their products. 3Aghs4

Marie-Josianne huffed, pulling bits of glass and crystal from her cheek. “Four down, two to go,” she sang to herself.

But just then another voice came in through the communication spell, ruining her peaceful night hunt, “Correction; five down, one to go. Anderson and I are waiting for you, Lanoise.” It was a nasally voice and oddly eloquent, one of those types that simply asked to get punched in the face.

Marie-Josianne held back a grimace, “Oh really? Didn’t think you had it in you, Hugo. Mmm, I suppose that means we should meet up.”

“Anderson is here as well, it was only thanks to his wonderful aid that I was able to pull through. Are you not going to say hi?” Hugo snickered from the other side, ignoring her attempt at staying professional. “Come meet us first and we will plan our next move. As a team, like we are supposed to.” sV62NZ

She wanted to wrangle the man. The smile on her lips twitched, “You’re the one who suggested we split in the first place! You know what, never mind. Just send me the location and I’ll be there.” Marie-Josianne wasn’t about to let a few dumb boys ruin her professional reputation.

On the other side of the spell, she heard that annoying chuckle, “You need only ask, Little Miss. I am forwarding our current location to you now.”
