The Black Saint is My StalkerCh159 - You seem distracted

Blood crimson. Miasma black. Even the air itself would bend and fold beneath the might of clashing powers.

Graham practiced callousness. He was good at it, an expert without peers. Not even minor gods struck fear into his heart. Angels too, with all their eyes, their wings, and their multitude of arms did not frighten Graham. aLtEJk

What was one demon prince?

A worthy foe, for sure. A dangerous nemesis that could cull him in a single blow, absolutely. But there stood no reason for Graham to falter, for he was not one to quake before a battle that was normally beyond the realm of human comprehension.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Vampiric blood formed crimson arrows shooting forth. They cut through miasma, until the demon prince would catch each and every one of his with his black claws, dispersing their power with his own. The air was terribly dense.

But Graham knew patience. He plotted and waited for the opportune moment to strike; right when Iszak stumbled backward from a blow too powerful, miasma surging forth. gqUGmM

Graham rushed in then, sword brandished. Divine glow enshrouded him; a worthy shield. He cut off the demon’s advance. His blade was carefully aimed at just one of those blackened arms. There was a large, ruby eye that sat at the center of each of the demon’s twelve palms and Graham chanced to guess that might be a weak point.

Thoughts purged, he angled his blade perfectly, undaunted by the stifling blast of miasma. The demon turned, catching Graham’s blade with a speed that could not be followed by human eyes.

A pleasant smirk. “So you rise.”

The aching flare knifed Graham’s heart once more. Why was this demon’s face so lovely? Why was it that Graham could recall warmth even in a time like this? Sweet memories, gentle touches, and pleasant longing. Graham’s emotions were in shambles.

But he held onto reason and his trembling iron will. This was just the demon’s powers, Graham reminded himself. He couldn’t allow himself to get dragged along.

So he ignored the ache, ignored the mind-numbing pain in his heart, and pressed on forward. The demon had Graham’s blade pinned, but that didn’t stop the Saint of Eternity from unleashing a blast of divine energy.

Hardly enough to subdue a prince, but enough to distract the demon enough with arrows of crimson approached from behind.

The demon seemed pleasantly startled, smiling when he let go of Graham’s blade to deal with the rainfall of arrows. Graham didn’t give himself a moment to rest, stepping forward with blind urgency. Divine blade swung, only to be caught once more. vo1dOg

“You seem distracted,” the demon taunted. A black claw came for him, and Graham couldn’t react until it punctured a hole straight through his stomach. He gasped, eyes golden. z6xBQF

Time snapped back.

“You seem distracted.”

Stupidly, Graham didn’t even think of rewinding back further, to properly give himself the right amount of time to react. He could only do so clumsily, shifting his arm to block the blow.

Graham was thrown back. He rolled and tumbled but still found his way back onto his feet. The demon prince’s power was a worthy poison, clouding all his thoughts with visceral heartache. Graham gritted his teeth and forced his back to straighten. It was just a trick. IQrXZW

A trick, that was all. One of a demon prince’s wrathful miasma, inciting Graham’s heart to falter and quake. Emotions were things that he could overcome. Graham needed to do the right thing—

He needed to…

The black figure stood a short distance away. Twelve arms, ruby eyes, and a calm expression. Graham needed to cut this monster down.

This monster who— wore such a sweet smile. Who reached up to dislodge the red arrow from his shoulder, numb to any human interpretation of pain. Everything was wrong. Because this demon was also— Ad34X5

Was also—

Graham’s heart—

“Are you okay?” The strained voice snapped Graham out of his jumbled thoughts. Iszak stood at his side.

The Saint of Eternity scowled and reached up to cradle his throbbing head. Bitingly, he snapped, “I’m fine.” F6BaJ5

“…” The vampire didn’t question further, for it was obvious between both of them that Graham was far from fine. “Can you fight? It would be ideal if the two of us could survive this ordeal.”

Graham’s thoughts were dark. He recalled what Franz had said; that if Iszak was dead then he would kill himself.

But if Graham were to die, then who would make sure that Han Li was okay? No, there were still things that needed to be done. The Saint of Eternity gripped his sword with such strength that his knuckles turned white. He nodded. Evened his voice and tried as he could to level his heart. “Do we stand a chance?”

“Hm.” Iszak’s third eye was red, a lesser quality compared to the obsidian third eye that sat at the center of the prince’s brow. The noble blood could not discern things like the unraveling of fate or the imprints of passing time. What he could discern, however, was the strum of power that pulsed off of Han Li’s skin and the wild quality of his turbulent miasma. “You could say that.” qLkbWX

“Speak clearly.” Graham was impatient and did not appreciate the vampire speaking in circles. The sky was turning dark. Currently, the demon stood statue-still but the air was lead-heavy and their foe might lunge at any given moment.

“The demon’s miasma is…not normal. It’s volatile. Perhaps that is why its power is greater than even a normal prince— but the power is temporary, not to mention unstable. If we can destabilize it further then there’s possibly a chance.”

“I see,” Graham replied bluntly. That was all that he needed to know. (To know that his heart was likely in pain, even with the cruel smile on his face.)

He needed to end things soon. 0JIR3T

That was something that at least the noble blood was in agreement with. “I’ve been feeding him with my blood, bloating him with my power. Though not entirely sure if it’s enough. I suppose we’ll just have to see, hm?” The noble blood still had the will to smirk.

“Let’s finish this quickly,” was all that Graham had to offer before charging forth.

Han Li raised one of his many arms, the miasma surrounding him twisted and formed a large spearhead. With a flick of a wrist, he sent it forth. Its speed was incomprehensible but Graham was faster still, at least fast enough to keep his life.

He rolled out of the way at the final second. The miasma was so thick that it ate through a chunk of his divine aura. He could call upon more. Clarent shined with its sacred glow. It cleaved downward, angled against Han Li’s demonic form. 7 Mtz0

Blows dodged, exchanged. Graham stood his ground. A clawed hand caught his arm, nails tore through his muscle. But at that moment, blood arrows fell down and pierced through Han Li’s miasmic shield, feeding his demon aura with even more power— power that simmered, threatening to boil over.

Graham ripped his arm out of clawed hands, uncaring if the cuts left were deep, pain flaring. He charged into the fray once more, his concentration minute.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Graham’s entire world was colored by the upward curve of obsidian lips and the child-like mirth within ruby eyes. Han Li would wear that same expression during dinner dates when he was eager and hopeful for a night spent together.

The thought flashed in Graham’s mind for but a second, but that second was more than enough for black claws to catch his neck and wring all the air out of him. Graham was only barely saved by Iszak’s intervention. The noble blood rushed in, wielding a spear of crimson. The demon tossed Graham against the noble blood. As though he were no better than trash. 9pNdeD

Iszak, luckily, was fast enough to dismiss his weapon before Graham fell against him. The demon prince was upon them in but a single breath and for a moment it seemed like there were completely defenseless against the black claws that chased after them.

Something silver caught dusk’s orange glow.

The barrier formed between mechanical wasps was brief and weak, but it created a split second of opportunity that otherwise would not have existed. Iszak used this chance to push the Saint of Eternity out of the way. The noble blood himself couldn’t fully dodge, however, and one black hand tore a hole right through his abdomen.

Still, Iszak grinned. He grabbed ahold of the limb that ripped through him, pinning it in place with all of his strength. “Now’s a good time as ever!” the vampire shouted. tyWcrG

From the rumble, Jayden struggled to his feet. The majority of his gadgets were mangled and ruined, but still, he summoned what he could, sending every bit of machinery toward the demon.

Graham stood as well. His heart was torn clearly in two, eyes misty and jaw tense. But still, he bit back the tears. Still, he held Clarent without the intention of letting go, and this time he rushed in too, with all his divine power bear.

Powers clashed. A deafening explosion sounded, engulfing anything and everything in its vicinity. The part of the DASR research facility that had remained standing finally came down.

  2. Bad, evil, vicious cliffhanger!!! I really need to know whether Han Li survived and if they managed to restore his sanity. Awwww… Grams, hang in there. Let’s hope your creator won’t be vicious enough to leave you heartless. It’s all the DASR’s fault. Burn the DASR to the ground, don’t leave one stone whole.

But wait a minute… Angels had many eyes and arms… (going back to that picture of one sexy abomination from two chapters back… many eyes… many arms)… um, Val? Han Li’s mother was just an immortal, right? She didn’t have the blood of angels, right? This really needs explaining.

    Thank you for the chapter!!!

P.S. the comic was really sweet. They look good together.
