The Black Saint is My StalkerCh130 - How he longed

Edited by dreamandwonder

The following day, they were finally due to return. wKzEhF

There wasn’t much for Han Li to pack and he had gotten up earlier than Grams, which justified him lazing around in the bed on his phone. The room was dim, sunlight still low, the curtains pulled.

Han Li found both comfort and bitterness with the soft sound of breathing next to him. Graham was still sleeping, lying on his stomach. His dark curls, unstyled, were an artful mess atop the soft white pillow. And despite Han Li’s iron will, he couldn’t help taking a few sneak peeks at the person who slept beside him.

How he longed to reach over and feel those curls between his fingers.

Han Li bit the inside of his cheek, staving off his restless emotions. He turned his gaze back to his phone. The Hunter’s Network App was stock full of missions appropriate for his rank. With the unsteady Lyrchester Pillar barely functional, the number of available missions skyrocketed over the last few years. There were a few postings that caught Han Li’s eyes but… D7yPjF

They weren’t big enough for his taste. He scowled, still disgruntled about the Fredrick Cooper mess.

Ten hunters! All for one useless mad sorcerer.

That was the result of panicked haphazard postings that littered the app nowadays. With the onset of cases, management struggled to keep up and the quality of mission filtering and information-gathering prior to deployment lowered substantially as well.

Han Li’s best bet would be getting a mission directly through his operator, John Right.

Unfortunately for him, Mr. Right was a busy individual and didn’t always have big fish at the ready for Han Li to sink into.

It didn’t hurt to try.

Han Li was about to close the application on his phone to send John Right a message. But before he could do just that, a hand reached out from under the covers and captured his wrist, pulling his hand and phone aside.

“What are you doing so early in the morning…?” Graham’s hoarse, sleep-logged voice was like honey to Han Li’s ears. qYhdFr

Han Li took too long to answer, giving Graham the time to peer at his phone screen. Having just woken, the Saint of Eternity was exceptionally transparent, and his scowling visage was rather cute. He pushed up his messy locks with his free hand and squinted at Han Li’s phone screen, his brows furrowed. “Already?” he asked. “I’m sure you can afford a longer rest.”

Han Li felt his smile strain, ripping his wrist out Graham’s grasp as he tried to maintain a pleasant demeanor. “I’m so close to A-rank I can practically feel it, Grams. Once I get my promotion, I’ll chill for a bit.”

In typical Graham fashion, he retorted, “The Association has not been around long enough to count centuries, my heart.” Graham looked around, noting that Han Li’s bag was already packed next to the bed. He stretched and got out of bed, searching for any random shirt he could get his hands on.

“Yeah. Sure, but you get my point.”

“…” Graham did not respond. A strange silence lulled between them while Graham dressed. Han Li kept his gaze pointedly at his phone, trying to recall what he was doing before he was ruefully interrupted by one sexy motherfucker.

Though he didn’t look up, he could tell from the sound of footsteps and rustling that Graham was packing his bags. They would soon head back to New Lidway. And while Han Li was technically still on vacation, he had a few reports to deal with, some bills to pay, and adult things to deal with. Graham, being an S-ranker and a saint, probably had even more things lined up than he. Han Li didn’t know. Their work rarely ever overlapped. mRsfNB

“Han Li.” Graham broke the silence.

“Hmm? What is it?” Absently, Han Li hummed, his gaze raising and catching Graham’s dark, piercing eyes. Sunlight slipped through the cracks between the curtains and illuminated half his visage, stirring Han Li’s longing.

The Saint of Eternity sighed. “I understand that you are close to your promotion. But…I loathe to think you aren’t taking care of yourself.”

Han Li felt his jaw tense. “I’m fine, Grams—“ 3V1hsM

“Are you?” Those dark eyes narrow slightly. Accusingly. “Will you not see your friends at least? For your birthday.”

Han Li quickly shut his open mouth. The familiar well of guilt bubbled inside of him and he sighed, feeling tired. His chest grew uncomfortable, head numb with simmering anxiety. He was old and wise enough to know that Graham was right.

Han Li should see his friends.

He didn’t even truly understand what it was that stopped him. whyrqd

“I’ll—“ he stuttered, gulping down the strange feeling that threatened to crawl up his throat. “I’ll talk to my therapist about it…and see if I can make some time.”

The words, seemingly simple, were difficult to admit but they were wholly worth it. Because Graham smiled, a small and gentle smile. A sprinkle of sunlight caught in his eyes, making them dazzle and it warmed Han Li’s heart. “Alright. You don’t have to if you cannot, my heart. I only ask that you try.”

Wordlessly, Han Li nodded. That warm bitterness returned, this time it brought with it an unspoken hunger.

Hunger, at least, was something that Han Li came to terms with. woIUHC

If only he could say the same about his aching heart.

Elsewhere in Merriva, westward, the Jones were frantic. Husband and wife turned off all their kitchen appliances, uncaring if it might ruin the food they were in the midst of cooking. Both of them ran out into the yard and Magnolia had no qualms about discarding her human form.

A large, black wolf took the place of the small dainty dark-skinned woman. The wolf pressed her nose to the ground, sniffing for her charge. With her superior sense of smell, it wasn’t long before she picked up a trail. 3kQAuI

“This way!” she told her husband, who nodded wordlessly at her as he circled around to the backside of the fence. Magnolia made no such detour, taking a few strides back before making a tall leap, hopping right on over.

With a scent trail picked up, Magnolia had only one desire, only one thought, and that was to hunt that stupid child down, bring him home, and give him a good spanking.

But aside from this child’s scent, there was something else that wafted through the air.

A sweet, honey-like aroma. Something that reminded her of sea salt and caramel. It enticed her, but just sweetness could not overcome her motherly concern. Magnolia growled at this offensive smell and continued to rush forward in search of her charge. She did not hesitate to leave her husband behind, his meager human legs couldn’t carry him as fast as she could run. Fm2kRv

It wasn’t long before she spotted two figures that dotted the distance. One was the familiar outline of her foster son, the young platinum-blond child stood still, his back turned to her.

“Luca!” she howled. “Come back here, child!”

The child did not respond. Suddenly, the intoxicating smell of caramel and sea salt morphed into something different; the vivid stench of miasma.

The other figure, tall, waifish, had long veil-like hair, as black as ink. Hkm0jV

Not human. Demon.

“Get away from that thing, Luca!”

The demon looked up. Its eyes were unnaturally bright, the blue sapphire in hue. A flicker of recognition flared in Magnolia’s chest but she cared little of the details. She sprinted as fast as her paws could carry her.

A whirring sound caught up behind her and Magnolia ducked. Silver wasps rushed forward. She caught the child’s collar and pulled him away. t0ddc5

Luca gasped, as though woken from some sort of trance. The child’s eyes widened, struck with confusion. Panicked at first, but he did not cry, simply because Magnolia’s comforting scent was there to wash over him.

Jayden rushed to the scene as fast as he could, directing his wasps to attack the demon. The black-haired demon flinched backward before its body turned into a dark wisp.

A black owl appeared out of the mist, flapping its midnight wings to get away.

Magnolia checked over the child. “Luca, are you okay? What happened? Tell me!” XmstCG

Startled by her panic, the young child began to shake. “M-Maggie?”

“Oh baby, are you hurt?” She pressed her large muzzle against him, licking him to comfort him. Small hands clutched at her large head. He began to sniffle, unable to articulate anything to his foster mother.

Meanwhile, Jayden rushed past the pair, chasing after the demonic owl as fast as he could. Unfortunately, there was only so fast and so far his human legs could carry him. With a flick of his wrist, he directed one of his wasps to use a burst of energy and attach itself to the demon’s body before quickly deactivating its properties.

The rest of his silver wasps stopped, giving up the pursuit, and descended from the skies, returning to Jayden’s palm. GCulD2

For some reason, he couldn’t help but feel a startling chill travel down his spine.

  1. Oh, so Han Li still hasn’t changed his operator. I hope the fact that Mr. Right hasn’t done anything to him doesn’t mean that he’s plotting something big, AND that he won’t interfere with Han Li’s promotion in ranks. And that therapist… I just hope that person is doing their job properly without plotting and/or sending research reports to a certain someone. That would really make any respect I still have for this org evaporate like morning mist.

Ahhh… they saved the kid. I’m so glad he’s alright. Just what the hell was that thing? Magnolia recognised it? Have we met this thing before in the novel and why did it target this little warewolf?

    Ahhh, so many questions.

    Thank you for the chapter!!!

  2. I seriously want to give Han Li a hug, poor baby and a part on the head. I hope his therapist is on the same level of Linda (if you’ve watch Lucifer, the TV show) and not some plotter in league with the DASR !

  4. Is Li Han avoiding Simone because deep down he knows she’ll slap some sense into him regarding Gram’s feelings?

WTF? His supervisor is still John Right. What humongous mess is he going to send Han Li into with mediocre backup? Probs this new demon. Fingers crossed he gets to work with Valtteri again
