He Yu gave off his coat to Li Tang, leaving him in only a thin short-sleeved T-shirt underneath. As he walked down the mountain along the path, he unconsciously crossed his arms. Qiao Mudong was behind him, taking off his suit and covering him.

He Yu immediately felt warm air encircling him, but he still refused and pushed the clothes back to him. “No need.”

Qiao Mudong said with a cold face, “Then take it off.”

He Yu had no choice but to put the suit back on his shoulders. 87YwPD

At this time, both of them felt really hungry. When they came down from the cemetery, they saw a noodle stall outside the cemetery gate. It’s really a small stall with no running water pipes for washing dishes. The boss uses paper lunch boxes covered with plastic bags to store noodles. They didn’t care whether it was dirty or not, so they sat down and asked the boss to cook two bowls of beef noodles.

Somewhat surprisingly, the boss’s noodles actually taste pretty good.

He Yu was eating noodles with his head buried when Qiao Mudong suddenly picked up a piece of beef from the bowl and threw it into He Yu’s bowl. He Yu was startled and looked up at Qiao Mudong. Qiao Mudong shrugged nonchalantly, “It’s convenient; just eat ba.”

Qiao Mudong had done this kind of thing before, when he was eating in prison. Qiao Mudong always had more things on his plate than they did. As long as He Yu sat next to him, Qiao Mudong would throw something at He Yu’s plate from time to time, like a puppy. At that time, He Yu thought to himself, I let him sleep with me anyway; why not eat? So he ate with peace of mind.

Of course, it is different now than in prison. No one cares about a little bit of beef dregs. However, He Yu stirred his bowl with chopsticks and couldn’t find a piece of meat for a long time. He smiled, lowered his head, and continued eating noodles.

After eating, Qiao Mudong had a thin layer of sweat on his forehead and even loosened his tie.

He Yu, still wearing Qiao Mudong’s suit, walked towards the canteen at the entrance of the cemetery. He bought a set of incense candles and paper money, and then selected two or three stacks of ghost money. Qiao Mudong watched behind him and asked inexplicably, “What are you doing? Are you going to burn paper for Hong Xiangfeng?”

He Yu said, “I’m going to see my mother.” dymONr

Qiao Mudong was a little dazed, but after a moment, he came to his senses and said, “I’ll go with you.”

He Yu watched him walk to the canteen, hesitated for a long time among the large bunch of flowers, and finally chose a bouquet that cost more than two hundred yuan. The bouquet was so big that it was almost half the height of Qiao Mudong. When he picked it up, it blocked his entire face.

He Yu found it funny and cursed, “You’re crazy.”

Qiao Mudong didn’t care. He followed He Yu and asked, “Your mother is buried here too?” Qvkqdj

He Yu slowly climbed the stairs and said, “Yes, in Mingyuan.”

In Qiao Mudong’s impression, this was the first time He Yu told him about his family. He had never known whether He Yu’s parents were still alive or how many brothers and sisters he had. In his eyes, He Yu had always been a separate existence.

Qiao Mudong suddenly said, “My mother is also dead. She committed suicide. She jumped from the sixth floor. A pool of blood flowed out from under her body. Even her underwear was stretched. It didn’t look good at all.”

He Yu stopped and asked, “Did you see it?” dkmQ8O

Qiao Mudong nodded. “I didn’t look at it carefully, though. When I wanted to take a look, I was pulled away.” He put down the bouquet, took out a cigarette and lit it, and smiled. “Actually, I was in my teens at that time. I’m not that fragile.”

He Yu suddenly recalled his previous thoughts: “Your mother used to be beautiful, wasn’t she?”

Qiao Mudong exhaled a puff of smoke and picked up the flowers again. “She is quite beautiful. She is proud and arrogant. It’s a pity that her life ended badly.”

He Yu opened his mouth, restrained himself from asking any more questions, and continued walking forward. FBSMmR

No. 18, row 7, Mingyuan. He Yu firmly remembered this number in his heart.

He squatted down, wiped off the ashes in front of the tombstone, then took out a lighter, lit the incense candle, kneeled down and kowtowed three times, then inserted it into the small incense burner.

Then, He Yu separated the paper money and lit it from the burning candle.

A wisp of green smoke curled up, conveying the son’s concern and grief to his mother in the distance. wfg89S

“Mom,” He Yu said softly, “Are you okay? I have found a job now, and my life is barely stable. When I save some money, I will rent a house so as not to cause trouble to others. You don’t have to worry. I’ll take good care of myself over here. If you need anything, just tell me in my dream and I’ll burn it for you.”

In fact, many people in this world may not believe in ghosts and gods, but sometimes they can only rely on this to express their thoughts. Instead of believing that death brings nothing but ashes, it is better to tell yourself that she just went to another world, where there is no pain or suffering, and she will be happier than living in this world.

This is self-deception, but it is also a comfort to the soul.

Qiao Mudong stood watching and noticed the birth and death dates recorded on his mother’s tombstone. The old woman passed away on April 18, 2011. That day was when He Yu was still in prison. Jg1w6j

Qiao Mudong couldn’t remember the exact day, but in April last year, during lunch that day, He Yu unexpectedly threw a dinner plate in his face. Before that, he had always felt that He Yu was a weak little white rabbit, a fair-skinned college student who lived in jail, afraid of being bullied all day long. Because of this, people like Qiao Mudong loved to provoke him more and more. They pinched his buttocks at first, making him blush, and then he turned pale. Later, they became more and more excessive and wanton. He Yu slept on his upper bunk. Sometimes, when he turned over in the middle of the night, He Yu would be so frightened that he would tremble in bed.

But that day, He Yu eventually burst out, smashing Qiao Mudong’s face with his meal. Until he was dragged away by the prison guards, he pointed at him and scolded him: “Qiao Mudong, you perverted bastard, why don’t you die?! Fuck you and your whole family! I won’t let you off!”

He Yu was in detention for three days. After he came out, he was no longer the original little white rabbit. He turned himself into a hedgehog. No matter who touched him, he would prick them back. Even to the extent of forcing Qiao Mudong to do those things to him. He did not mind it at all. He Yu held himself, curling up into a ball, refusing to show his soft side to others.

Qiao Mudong’s interest in He Yu did not diminish at all. Instead, he became more and more interested in getting closer to him, even more than before. Qiao Mudong felt that maybe he was a bit mean. No matter how He Yu argued with him or made sarcastic remarks, he could not help but stick to him just because he wanted to fuck him hard. But sometimes, when He Yu pricked him hard, Qiao Mudong would be a little bit regretful. He missed the original He Yu, the one who would blush if his butt was touched. GHZnpI

Thinking about it now, those changes were probably due to the death of He Yu’s mother. Perhaps it was such a heavy blow that the gentle young man became what he is today.

Qiao Mudong stepped forward and placed the large bouquet of flowers in front of his mother’s tombstone. The bouquet was so big and the branches were so luxuriant that they completely covered the entire tombstone.

He Yu was speechless and secretly scolded Qiao Mudong for being stupid, but he did not move the flower away. After all, it was Qiao Mudong’s heartfelt tribute to his mother.

He Yu stood up and looked up into the distance. The environment here is very good and peaceful. It is indeed a good place to bury his late mother. Fu Chenshan must have put in a lot of effort at that time. He looked down at the empty tomb next to his mother’s tomb and suddenly had an idea in his mind. 75pc1b

“Qiao Mudong,” He Yu said, “can you lend me some money?”

Qiao Mudong asked strangely, “What? How much do you want?”

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

He Yu hesitated and said, “I don’t know either. I’ll ask later. It should be less than 10,000.”

Qiao Mudong frowned. “What do you want to do?” 3z0VjN

He Yu looked at his mother’s tombstone and said, “I want to buy the tomb next to it and keep it for myself.” He will not be able to marry, have children, or have his own family in this life. In this case, he might as well come here after he dies. Here with his mother.

Qiao Mudong was a little angry. “Is there something wrong with you? You are less than thirty years old this year, and you’re already planning what will happen after your death?”

He Yu said, “What’s wrong with making plans early?”

Qiao Mudong said angrily, “Bullshit! I don’t have money. If you want to buy something, you can find a way to buy it yourself; don’t look for me!” After saying that, he still felt dissatisfied and cursed again, “You’re sick in the head!” YIqQTy

He Yu couldn’t help laughing when Qiao Mudong said it. He grabbed his arm and said, “Okay, okay, I’m sick in the head.”

Qiao Mudong shook him off, turned, and left. “I’ll wait for you in the car.”

He Yu turned around and said to his mother, “Mom, I’m living a good life now, and there are people who are kind to me. Don’t worry.” After saying that, he bent down and placed the flowers sent by Qiao Mudong on the side of the tombstone, exposing the photo of Mother He. He touched it gently with his fingers and then slowly left.

  1. Thank you for the chapter! I like the complexity of Fu Chenshan’s character — he’s done a lot of bad things, but then you see moments like this where he thought carefully about where to bury He Yu’s mother. I just appreciate it when an author fleshes out someone who could’ve easily been generic cannon fodder.

    • I’m pretty sure that by the time you reach 40+ chapters and have read more about Fu Chenshan’s character, I think you’ll definitely love this story. Everyone has depth and is a person of their own. Love love~
