The crimson marks on the back of Lin Bozhou’s hand made the atmosphere in the room extremely eerie.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Meng Huan looked up to see Lin Bozhou gazing down and studying the wound. This increased his heart rate as a burning color suffused his ears.

The way the original book depicted Lin Bozhou was in a Mary Sue-like manner. He was practically a respected noble deity with royal lineage and unparalleled power. Any offense against him would be paid at the price of one’s life. rqfUI3

Under the eaves, You Jin turned pale with fright and gasped, “Your Royal Highness.”

He approached to check Lin Bozhou’s hand.

Lin Bozhou ordered, “Step down.”

“Your Royal Highness…” You Jin hesitated on what he wanted to say.

“This Regent told you to step down.”

Lin Bozhou gave the head eunuch a glance. You Jin returned to his spot under the eaves, but his gaze swept over Meng Huan from time to time, the anger in his eyes unmistakable.

“…”

What Meng Huan had done wasn’t an accident, so he didn’t try to explain himself, only hanging his head stiffly in grievance. dLKD 5

“It’s fine.” Lin Bozhou comforted him with a gentle look. “Huan Huan, don’t be afraid. You’re not to blame.”

This minor wound couldn’t be compared to Meng Huan’s pain from last night.

However, after saying this for reassurance, Lin Bozhou found that Meng Huan wasn’t in a fearful state.

The youth was different from a frightened rabbit that tucked its ears after even the slightest misstep. There was only a slight change in his expression before he hung his head and stood in place. He bit his lower lip enough for it to redden, as if unwilling to cower even if it killed him. jVDlMs

Lin Bozhou lowered his eyes and asked, “Did I make Huan Huan very unhappy last night?”

Otherwise, why would Meng Huan be this angry?

Meng Huan didn’t answer.

“You can speak your mind.” Lin Bozhou used a very gentle voice, as if he wanted to self-reflect. mG gaS

Meng Huan clenched his fingers and was filled with determination. “Not happy.”

He answered quietly at first, but after saying that sentence, it was like an explosion went off. The water was released from the dam, gushing out of the channels all at once. “I’m not happy at all.”

Lin Bozhou remembered that Meng Huan hugged his neck on the bed last night and kept mumbling something, pestering him like melted spring water, saying that he wanted it, and everything from the very beginning was provoked and pulled by Meng Huan. Follow Lin Bozhou to possess him.

However, at that time, Meng Huan’s passion and boldness were not normal, and he knew this very well. This trust and coquetry, in fact, didn’t belong to him, and he…indeed took advantage of the youth.

So what if he took advantage of the youth? AMVvB

The moment he decided to touch the youth, he was ready to bear all of Meng Huan’s emotions.

The room was still very quiet, as dark shadows hung above them.

After Meng Huan finished, it finally dawned on him how harsh he was being, not to mention how little face he was giving Lin Bozhou. With how arrogant and cold the man was described in the book, it was very likely that Lin Bozhou would order people to beat him.

How dare a male concubine pull a face at him? SJvDCP

Meng Huan frowned, and his fingers were sore from how hard he was clenching them, but he maintained his tough facade with no intention of yielding.

He even took a deep breath and was ready for a beating.

Who knew instead.

A shadow suddenly landed beside Meng Huan’s ear as Lin Bozhou’s hot breath approached him, bringing a hint of coolness as well. The inescapable dark fog that swallowed him last night was back again. 0wYISv

“Huanhuan is now a husband, and I will write down the things that make you unhappy.” Lin Bozhou’s eyes are bent, and the eyes that usually only feel hypocritical and without waves are quiet and tender, “Next time Fang, as a husband, I must have asked Huanhuan for her opinion first, okay?”

Lin Bozhou didn’t react with a short temper. “Was it from hurting you too much last night or not asking for your permission in advance?”

“…”

Meng Huan looked up and gazed at the man with his dark and moist eyes in a daze. h9eTzj

“Huan Huan is this husband’s; therefore, this husband will burn everything that makes you unhappy into his memory.” Lin Bozhou’s eyes curved in a way that usually felt fake and unsettling, except that right now they appeared more gentle and loving. “Next time we share a bed, this husband will ask Huan Huan’s opinion first, all right?”

It was like the man respected his opinion very much.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Even within Lin Bozhou’s infamous dictatorship, there was a hint of negotiation and respect.

For a moment, Meng Huan didn’t know how to answer. HS5AmR

Was he dreaming?

This was Lin Bozhou?

When did he change his ways?

Apart from the occasional times when Lin Bozhou was milder and the original host didn’t quarrel with him, just what kind of people deserved this treatment from him? tUMire

Meng Huan’s brain was in great confusion.

After racking his brain for a while, an idea gradually took form.

Could it be that he and his body fit so well last night that he knew the taste by taste, and even fell in love with him for a short time?

Could it be that his and the man’s physical compatibility was so great that after one night of feasting, it was enough for him to get Lin Bozhou’s love instantly? nRDFxt

“…”

It was also written in the original novel that the original gong had abstained from sex for many years, but after his first night of touching the original Meng Huan, he fell from a noble monk to a vulgar demon. He became addicted to sexual affairs, going completely out of control. He sought after it night after night.

The conception of marriage in ancient times was different from that in modern times. It really was possible to go from strangers who had never met before to sleeping together for a whole night after the wedding ceremony and immediately becoming a couple who respected and supported each other.

—Lin Bozhou most likely fell for his body. FL4IwS

“…”

When Meng Huan reached this conclusion, he flattened his lips tightly. The hesitation in his eyes disappeared, and his expression turned indifferent again.

After Lin Bozhou left, Meng Huan called for fresh hot water to be brought in. 5aBg8q

Feng Zhi asked, “Royal Consort, would you like this maid to help you bathe?”

“No, that’s not needed.” Meng Huan was still not used to this kind of rich-person treatment of having young girls serve him. When they brought the hot water and poured it into the wooden bathtub, he sent everyone away.

He undressed and entered the hot water to soak.

The water temperature wasn’t unbearably hot; it was more of a comfortable heat as it nourished his tired skin and then simulated the soreness that had been buried all day, making his body tired and exhausted. rFsXVp

Frowning, Meng Huan rested his chin on the edge of the bathtub, looking listless.

He let the water circulate around his skin and quietly felt the changes in his body. Before transmigrating into this book, he was an eighteen-year-old, first-year college student who had never been in a romantic relationship. As a shut-in, he loved to draw and ship couples. Although he often said obscene things, he had zero experience when it came to being in a relationship.

But now he had a husband—a person who owned his body.

—But there were no feelings between them. caj97B

Moreover, the other party didn’t even really like him.

At the thought of this, disappointment appeared in Meng Huan’s eyes as he lowered his head and brushed the water with his hands.

Did he not deserve sugary-sweet love after living two lifetimes?

The touch of the warm water seemed to reflect Lin Bozhou’s figure. Standing tall and aloof, everything about him felt so distant that it was impossible to imagine. vYsE9g

The youth had many bloody bruises lingering all over his pale skin from the pinching, making him look very tragic.

This only brought back waves of grievance.

Meng Huan: Sniff, sniff QWQ

Tears rained down into the water. bC 5Nk

He felt like a canary who had been served to a powerful person on a silver platter as a toy. Because he only had his physical charm, he had to make great efforts to please Lin Bozhou every night in every way to gain glory and wealth. But Lin Bozhou never saw him as a person, and it wouldn’t be long before he was tossed aside once he grew old and ugly.

What a sad life. The more he thought, the more sorry he felt for himself.

As he was washing himself, his fingers brushed against his skin, and the warmth and touch of a human body welled up, and, as if like a blurry afterimage, it felt like a stranger’s hands were touching him.

The fog from last night’s dream came back to his mind, and at the end of it, Lin Bozhou’s face gradually became clear. dWpYKC

So it turns out Huan Huan likes it this way…?

The man’s voice was low and husky, and he was blowing hot breath against his ear, which caused him to shiver slightly.

Meng Huan shook his head violently, flinging water droplets away as his cold hair brushed his cheeks. The atmosphere turned so stiffly cold that he slumped against the edge of the bathtub with an odd expression for a moment.

Did that happen last night? ICJn9H

He couldn’t remember anything, which led to an unfamiliar perception of Lin Bozhou, but…

His face appeared in his mind.

…From a certain point of view, Lin Bozhou was indeed a very handsome individual, the kind that attracted both genders in the novel. It was said that he was one part masculine and one part feminine, a perfect balance of handsome and elegant, like a devil.

Sigh… qx7l61

Why did this powerful scumbag have to be this good-looking as well?

Laying on the edge of the tub, Meng Huan looked dejected. When the water gradually turned cold, he climbed out, took a dry towel, and began to dry himself.

As he wiped himself dry, he couldn’t hold back from sizing himself up repeatedly.

He really couldn’t remember anything from last night, but at least he wasn’t a virgin anymore, and Lin Bozhou seemed to have had an amazing time by the looks of the aftereffects, but Meng Huan didn’t feel anything. 25hdKI

Lin Bozhou took all the benefits.

Just the thought of it made him angry again.

Meng Huan got dressed, carrying all sorts of mixed feelings inside. By the time he came out, the yard was brightly lit with lanterns. The servants were happily packing up and preparing to move to the main palace, where the Prince Regent’s consort lived.

To them, their master was favored. vVA4pc

Meng Huan lowered his gaze, feeling this to be meaningless, and went back to his small room.

He kicked off his shoes, climbed into the bed, lay down under the quilt, and clapped his hands together, praying.

He wished he could get a good night’s sleep.

He wished… 4VsTj1

There would be no Lin Bozhou in his dream.

A derogatory idiom for, getting a taste for and wanting it again, to start to hanker after, to develop a greed for. Also means wanting to come back for more after a single taste.

Translator's Note

Following the first idiom, this part means now Lin Bozhou favors/loves Meng Huan in addition to that desire.

  1. Author, please let Meng Huan have a friend to comfort him! He’s so lonely, don’t let him wallow in his sadness like this! 😭

  2. It’s good that they talked, and that he’s thinking about it. Actually this chapter did a nice job addressing issues we had from the last one. I wonder if he’s going to regret drawing in the porn book lol.

  3. I like how the author make them communicate until..how Meng Huan never sees Lin Bozhou as a real person but still a character in the novel.

  4. I never thought what this book will make that huge discuss under previous chapter. This book is not that easy as I thought

Thank you for your translation 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛

  5. Warning: Essay in-coming as a response to the comments I’ve seen in the previous chapters. If you don’t want to read the entire thing, the first paragraph is sufficient.

Just because Meng Huan is prone to self-pity does not mean that his feelings and conclusion aren’t valid. Perspective is everything. If you’ve been told/informed of a person’s character and have a negative first impression that confirms the information, it can be quite the difficult cognitive task to reverse your judgment. Meng Huan couldn’t have known that Lin Bozhu was attracted to the potential of a happy marriage/relationship and genuine affection. We only know because we are the readers that Lin Bozhu is very much redeemable and has an interesting personality that stands out from his era. Even so, all MH knows is that LBZ knowingly took advantage for him and apologized for not getting his permission, but that he’s not sorry for the act itself.

LBZ admitted to taking advantage, so for MH and us from the modern era where consent is (and should be) everything, he has basically admitted to rape. Maritial rape is still rape, and sadly difficult to prove even in modern courts.

However the setting isn’t modern. In an era where wives are like property and expected to have their lives revolve around their husband, maritial rape is unheard of and pretty much considered impossible. The author makes that clear that ” [t]he servants were happily packing up and preparing to move to the main palace, where the Prince Regent’s consort lived. To them, their master was favored. ”

LBZ prioritizes MH and MH’s happiness. ” It was like the man respected his opinion very much. Even within Lin Bozhou’s infamous dictatorship, there was a hint of negotiation and respect. ” Given how he was socialized, he could have gotten offended by MH’s behaviour and very much acted in-line with MH’s expectations. So shouldn’t he got brownie points for apologizing and promising to do better?

But in fact if LBZ knew exactly that he was taking advantage (if not with our modern understanding of the severity of it) and that MH, once sober, was possible to be unhappy. ” So what […]? The moment he decided to touch the youth, he was ready to bear all of Meng Huan’s emotions.” LBZ prioritized his goal (the potential of MH’s love) over MH himself. Well-intentioned offense is still offense, and whether LBZ’s intentions were purely good is a bit dubious.

Before to LBZ, MH’s happiness had a practical factor of keeping order in his compound. It was also very personal because we as the readers have seen LBZ (subconsciously?) favor MH beyond practicality. But as soon as something else took higher priority (love & affection), LBZ disregarded MH’s happiness to get further in his goal. I suspect that if MH’s happiness was an actual active requirement for LBZ’s desire for love and companionship, this would be a very different story.

Luckily for us, it is! And I’m excited to see the potential for growth that LBZ displays as an already surprisingly nuanced character! I was happy to just read on, but the comments in the last few chapters were a bit disturbing to me personally. Of course to us MH’s reluctance can be annoying, but it is a matter of personal opinion coming from a place of knowing LBZ’s thoughts.

If somebody wronged you and apologized, you are not obligated to forgive them. LBZ did so knowingly at that, albeit with a very human wish of wanting love. Does that actually make up for what he did? That is not up for us to decide, but to MH. We as readers know that he likely will, otherwise the promised sugary-sweet love that we’re here for wouldn’t be possible.

I doubt MH thought this far though lol, and that’s okay. Sometimes self-pity is needed for emotional regulation. Personally I will keep reading because I’m hoping to see forgiveness on MH’s part as an act of both survival and strength (mainly survival though), and for LBZ to prove MH’s bad impression wrong by being an interesting and complex character with very redeemable qualities.

Relationships rarely start ideal, and love even more so. I just hope that the quality of this story remains as good as it is, and that it will teach us more interesting things.

    Thank you for translating 🙂

    • I’m also really enjoying how a tropey transmigration story originally played for laughs has the characters feeling their way to having a proper relationship of equals. It makes the story so much more satisfying and real. I find golden finger stories with protagonists who always make the correct choices boring in the extreme.

    • I totally agree with everything that you said in your comment. I understand that everyone has their own thoughts, opinions feelings and experiences and I can respect that but it doesn’t mean I have to agree or like them because the comments in the previous chapter gave me a really weird vibe idk how to explain it but I definitely wasn’t feeling good about them.

You know it’s very rare to see authors write novels in this genre that try to portray realistic characters especially MC’s in realistic situations and seeing the comments from the previous chapter really showed me why that is. The response they sometimes get from readers isn’t encouraging so instead they switch to the completely normal novels you know with an OP MC, with godly skills and what not which isn’t bad and I have nothing against those novels, I find them quite enjoyable but I would like to see more novels and MC’s like this were I feel seen and find them relatable . I’ve seen comments like these a lot in novels that try to be realistic. I think that as humans we have this inherent pride and God complex (you know apex species stuff and what not) so when authors write novels with an MC like this we inherently think that even if we’re average or not the best we can definitely do better but sometimes not all the time though the reality is that we would definitely act the same as the MC or do worse and we sometimes don’t want to face the reality of that idea. We get so invested that we tend to forget the idea that we as readers have an omniscient view point (see what I did there) so we can see all the thought processes of the characters but the characters themselves can’t and that affects the decisions they take even though they might not be the right or smart one along with different factors for example mood, emotional well being, physical and mental health, environment, time period, experiences, upbringing etc.

I don’t think any of the commenters had anything bad in mind I think that they got too invested which happens to all of us when we find something really enjoyable and as I said before we all have the right to our own opinions but it doesn’t mean we all have to like or agree with them.

P.S I hope my tone doesn’t sound to harsh

  6. It’s happening slowly, but I feel Meng Huan is starting to finally accept this as a real world more than a novel. Slowly but surely, he’ll come around for Lin Bozhou as well.

    Thanks for the chapter!
