Anyways, my dark brain got its cogs jogging again. I’ve been reading Application For Divorce, a great plot filled novel also on CG.
I’ve basically thought of a darker version of it. There are some plot holes though. No spoilers surprisingly. At least I don’t think there really is.
A short summary of the beginning of the novel:
So to begin, Cheng Jin was a spoiled brat in his early days. He forced a marriage on to Lu Tao, who became a general later on. Cheng Jin’s family suffered an accident and Cheng Jin matured as he became poor while he tried to help his family.
Then one day Lu Tao sent an application for divorce(roll credit) to Cheng Jin. But the day they were supposed to separate, Lu Tao got into an accident and lost his memory.
And that’s all you really need to know for my darker version.
Idea Of A Darker Version:
I thought what if Cheng Jin was different, like he was completely empty/soulless when the story began.
In order to do that and to make it make sense, I had to make everything start to tumble down from the beginning.
First, make Cheng Jin completely dependent on Lu Tao so that the application for divorce(roll credit) breaks his mind/makes him empty. To do that, we need to make him abandoned by the world.
This means rather than Cheng Jin’s family getting bankrupt, let’s make it simple and just say Cheng Jin wasn’t their biological child. Then his family would be like, “I did so much on a bratty child that wasn’t even mine!” and kicked him out of the family. Of course, this happens way after Cheng Jin and Lu Tao get married.
This does bring a lot of plot holes so ignore them please.
Then Cheng Jin would feel alone and isolated seeing his friends and family leave him one by one. His mentality would become fragile.
Staying in the house he and Lu Tao “cohabitated” in, Cheng Jin tried his best to be good and fix himself.
One day, the day before Lu Tao left for war, Cheng Jin would go up and just say “Please.”
Please don’t leave me. Please don’t abandon me. Please don’t divorce me. Please don’t hate me.
Unfortunately, Lu Tao didn’t really get those hidden meanings, but he did feel a little pity. And so he did say, “Be obedient and just stay here.”
This, however, would seal Cheng Jin’s fate. Because of this one sentence, Cheng Jin believed that Lu Tao didn’t hate him, that he cared for him. He didn’t divorce him because he also loved him.
Lu Tao became his only lifeline, his last straw of hope.
And what does one do when their hope, which was essentially their god, told them to listen and stay in their house?
Well, Cheng Jin obeyed and stayed in the house. And by staying in the house, I mean staying in the house. Cheng Jin did not take a step outside. He stayed alone in the house by himself.
As for food, Cheng Jin used the money Lu Tao gave him to send him deliveries, whether ingredients or actual food. This will also make Cheng Jin’s impression that Lu Tao loved him even stronger.
Thankfully for Cheng Jin, he has an intelligent robot to talk to. However, human contact is still necessary for mental health, so Cheng Jin’s mentality still got worse bit by bit in the end.
He became more and more obsessed and dependent on Lu Tao. His dark thoughts festered but were suppressed by hope.
Until that fateful day. The day Lu Tao sent Cheng Jin the application for divorce(roll credit).
The darkness broke through. As a self-defense mechanism, Cheng Jin basically shut down. He became empty like his personality was erased completely.
Even after learning that Lu Tao had amnesia, Cheng Jin didn’t try to take advantage either. Instead, he gave Lu Tao the divorce papers when they were by themselves. Cheng Jin told and answered whatever Lu Tao asked. Lu Tao would then ask Cheng Jin to stay with him upon seeing his empty eyes. Whether from guilt, because it was his fault, or from the curiosity of Cheng Jin himself was unknown.
Thus began a story where Lu Tao tries to heal Cheng Jin. Basically a fluffy story.
I ain’t that cruel.
