Nighttime.
The port in midair was shrouded in darkness, hidden beneath a vast sea of stars.
Ye Yun’s hand covered Ye Muo’s eyes, confining the younger boy in his arms. He saw tears trickled past Ye Muo’s lips and chin before falling, dissipating into his blood-soaked clothes.
He covered Ye Muo’s eyes originally to calm him down and prevent him from hurting himself after that injection, but Ye Yun didn’t let go even now. He felt that Ye Muo probably didn’t want to be seen crying.
Ye Yun wanted to comfort Ye Muo, but he didn’t know what to say.
In the end, Ye Muo gradually calmed down by himself. He even in turn comforted Ye Yun, feeling guilty.
“I’m sorry for being too weak. I’m nowhere near you and Ye He’s level.”

Ye Yun finally got a good look once he removed all the clothes from Ye Muo’s upper body. Aside from those fresh wounds, Ye Muo’s back and chest were covered with already healed scars. Layer upon layer marred fair skin, especially harsh-looking on the youth’s beautiful figure.
Ye Yun did not have anything for treating external injuries on him. He started bandaging Ye Muo up after giving him an anti-inflammatory injection.
After using up his entire roll of bandages and half of the one in Ye Muo’s pack, most of Ye Muo’s wounds on his upper body were covered. They wrapped around his waist, revealing only one shoulder and the gap where the waist met the abdomen.
When that was done, Ye Yun finally draped Ye Muo’s jacket over him.
“This will do for now. I’ll request a treatment pod for you after we get back.”
Then he put Ye Muo’s arm over his shoulder and helped him to his feet.

Who knew what this plant originally manufactured? It was very tall, almost like a tower of sorts. There was a tiny door on the roof, leading into a very dim space with a staircase. Even the exterior had metal stairs firmly attached to the walls. They led down to the roof of a slightly shorter building. Countless sections of stairs like this connected the various buildings.
Ye Yun chose to take the stairs inside. Moving around out there was too conspicuous.
The stairs spiraled down into the darkness. It was dim, but not to the degree Ye Yun expected. There was a small window every other flight of stairs. The starlight coming in allowed them to see where they were going.
After walking for a while, the spiral staircase came to an end. They were now in a wide space with a square made of railings in the middle. The center was directly connected to the bottom, forming a corridor that resembled the character 回.
Ye Yun looked around. Aside from the roof exit they came down from, there were only smooth walls around. There were no other stairs or doors.
Yet they had still yet to reach the bottom. He estimated they were probably just past the halfway point now.
Ye Muo tugged on Ye Yun.
“Are those stairs going down?”
Ye Yun looked over to where Ye Muo was pointing. There was a gap in the railing square over there. He and Ye Muo walked over to it. Only the sound of their footsteps echoed into the quiet building.
Sure enough, there at the opening in the railings was a staircase. The metal structure perpendicular to the wall led down into the darkness.
It was very dark down there without any windows or lights. There was no way to see what was down there or how deep it went.
“Strange. Why would the stairs suddenly become like this?”
“I’ll go first. Follow me.”
Ye Yun let go of Ye Muo and started preparing to go downstairs. He went over his equipment one by one to see if there was something that could help with lighting.
Ye Muo also took off the jacket draped over him that made it somewhat inconvenient to move. He tied it firmly to his waist, revealing his bandaged upper body. He too was about to take inventory of his equipment when he stopped and took a step forward for some reason. Holding the railing, he looked down.
Next to him, Ye Yun had already finished preparations to descend. Half of Ye Yun’s body was already below floor level, with his hand on the stair railing.
He instructed Ye Muo as he headed down.
“Let’s take it slow since you’ve lost too much blood. If you feel like you can’t go on just tell me–”
Ye Muo suddenly interrupted him. He sharply yanked Ye Yun back with a pale face. Ye Yun felt like he was almost dragged up by Ye Muo’s strength alone.
Ye Muo pulled Ye Yun up and behind himself, using his own body to shield him. He backed up several steps. It wasn’t until they were far from that railing and staircase that he whispered.
“There’s something down there.”
Ye Muo’s voice was barely audible, as if he was afraid of disturbing something.
Ye Yun didn’t see a thing, but he also lowered his voice.
“What did you see?”
“At the bottom, there’s a dense layer of something clinging to the walls.”
Ye Muo’s description was very vague.
Ye Yun frowned and approached the railing again. Ye Mo followed close behind, seemingly ready to pull him back at any time.
Ye Yun looked down there again. It was just pitch black like before. After a moment of thought, he got a rock from nearby and tossed it down. It was a while before they heard it land.
He turned to look at Ye Muo.
“There’s nothing there.”
Ye Muo shook his head.
Ye Yun patiently coaxed him.
“Then I’ll go down and check it out first. I’ll come back up and get you later.”
“No. Don’t go.”
Ye Muo shot him down very quickly. This was his first time speaking up against Ye Yun. He almost never went against Ye Yun’s wishes before. Like he was afraid Ye Yun would insist on going down there, he actually reached over and grabbed Ye Yun’s wrist.
Ye Yun was taken aback. He compromised.
“I’ll take another look.”
He took out a button-sized object from his pack, pressing it and tossing it down. Each person only had two of these in their pack. They were not very powerful and should not do much damage to the building’s structure.
Ye Yun had used up more than half of his bullets on the warship. This was one of the few weapons aside from his dagger he had left.
More than ten seconds later, an explosion accompanied by blinding light came from below, followed by an ear-piercing screech. No, not just one, but an unholy choir of tens of thousands.
Ye Muo and Ye Yun covered their ears at the same time. Ye Muo dragged Ye Yun all the way back against the far wall.
One or two shrill screeches still came from below a few minutes later, interspersed with the sounds of the walls being scratched hard by something. Gradually, the silence from before returned.
Ye Yun stopped covering his ears. He was able to clearly see what was down there during the few seconds the explosion happened.
There were insect eggs everywhere, their grown counterparts swarming over them, waving their forelimbs and clacking their pincers. The pitch black insects came in various sizes and had armoured heads and chests. They were stacked upon one another due to their sheer numbers.
Even more disgusting was the fact that most of those eggs had been cannibalised. Even black adult insect carcasses littered the floor beneath.
Ye Yun’s expression was very dark.
“Why are there insects here?!”

Claire and Aaron landed in the abandoned city, settling into a building that was once a hotel. Claire even found a few students along the way.
Rat has also been trailing behind them. Claire was uneasy about him. He still suspected the man had ulterior motives and always kept an eye on him since they landed.
Rat didn’t care. He dragged a mattress of indeterminable age over to the main lobby by Aaron and the students. Then he let out a sigh of relief and collapsed onto it.
Claire was still warily watching at the door. With furrowed brows, he counted the students in the lobby for the umpteenth time.
“Where are all those kids right now, I wonder? Are they safe? Injured?”
Aaron’s face was still very pale. The students here were all huddled by him.
“They should all be near the port. We’ll look for them tomorrow.”
Rat was looking rather relaxed. He splayed out on the mattress without a care in the world.
“In my opinion, you don’t need to look for those students. They’re so young and brimming with more energy than us, after all. Those who can get into the First Military Academy aren’t idiots. They must be holed up somewhere. Us going to search for them so overtly would be more dangerous.”
He ignored Claire’s cold expression and beautifully reminisced about his grand plan.
“This place is real far from their lair so we’re safe. Now we just need to hole up in here until your people realise something’s wrong and come pick us up.”
“Where is this lair exactly?”
Rat closed his eyes and really stretched. It’s been so long since he’s had a good night’s sleep.
“Over at the factory on the outskirts. Let’s hope no one was unlucky enough to land right over there.”
