Min-jun: Our main character. Worked as a courtesan for a few years before leaving to start anew as a detective. Currently the King’s consort, plotting to kill his own husband as revenge for the murder of his parents. Likes: Spicy food, moonlit nights, reading, getting angry at Cheol
Cheol: Male lead. He’s the current King of Saro, and will do anything to raise his Kingdom out of the corruption his father had allowed to prosper in his time. Might’ve killed the previous King. Likes: Sweets, botany, gardening, Min-jun.

Royal Academy Chief: Part of the Hwang-og Ni clan. Marched against Min-jun because his family requested it.
Choi Yung: A young student with a secret.
Ni Seung: Another student. Roommates with Choi Yung, whom he has a crush on. Lady Ok-jeong’s younger brother.
Characters from Geoul City:
Su-jin: Min-jun’s ailing childhood best friend, for whom he would give up his life should the need arise.
Mother: Main villain of the story. Has manipulated Min-jun into following a rather terrible revenge plot. Threw him in a kisaeng house for a few years.
LOCATIONS:
Saro: The country as a whole. Based on Joseon, c. 1850, but don’t expect historical accuracy.
Hanseong: The Capital of Saro, where the Palace is located.
Royal Academy: Located in Hanseong, just a short walk from the Palace on foot.
Outer Palace: Government offices.
Inner Palace: Home to the King and his family.
Palace: Based on Gyeongbok Palace in Seoul.
Wolgwang City: A city of many crimes. Everyone’s a little off. Perfect for Min-jun’s line of work as a private investigator. Literally means ‘Moonlight’ City.
Geoul City: ‘Mirror’ city. Home to the red light district Min-jun used to work in. Su-jin is still held captive there.
