High School RewindCh2 - Reset

Seth gasped for air. His body felt sore and his throat was dry. Seth slowly opened his eyes. He couldn’t believe that there was really an afterlife.

Yeah, Seth was so sure that he had died. The moment the bus and the truck collided, Seth’s body was thrown in front of the bus. He didn’t die instantly. He still had his consciousness for a few seconds. He kept thinking that he wanted to return to the past. Then, everything went black. x0rAbO

Seth looked around him. He wanted to see what the afterlife looked like. Seth was surprised when he realized the place he was in looked a lot like his bedroom in his old house—the one where he lived with his mother. Seth had forgotten many things regarding the past, but the memory of this house would always be in his mind. Maybe, the afterlife would look different for each person. Seth thought that it might depend on the place a person wanted to see before his soul could be reborn.

Seth rose from the same bed he had when he was a teenager. The bed sheet was also the same. His pillows, too. Seth looked around the room. His desk, lamp, and textbooks were in the same place like in his memory. Even his school uniform was hanging neatly. The posters of the movie actors he liked were still plastered on the walls. The clothes inside his closet were the same from the past. He tried some of them. Seth was laughing the whole time.

Then, a delicious smell filled Seth’s nose. A nostalgic feeling enveloped his being. It was the smell of his mother’s cooking. In the past, Seth didn’t need an alarm clock to wake up in the morning. His mother’s cooking was enough to wake his consciousness instantly.

Seth followed the direction where the smell was coming from. He got out from his room. As expected, the outside looked exactly the same from the past. Seth walked to the kitchen. His each step bore a sense of excitement. 25uXz

The house couldn’t be considered big or small. It was just enough to accommodate a family of three. However, because Seth didn’t have a father—the house felt big with only him and his mother. Though, Seth always felt happy and safe living in that house with the most important person in his life.

When Seth reached the kitchen, he saw a familiar figure standing in front of the stove. Seth’s tears began to fall. He was so happy to see his old house again, but nothing would compare to the joy he was feeling at that moment upon seeing the only person he wanted to see the most.

“M-mom!” Seth shouted that word with all his might. His voice cracked but his heart felt whole again. “Mommy!!!!”

His mom looked at Seth’s direction. She immediately approached him with a worried look on her face. “What happened, dear? Why are you crying?”

Seth was crying a lifetime worth of tears. His mom looked the same. His beautiful mom. The only person who loved Seth the most in this world…

Seth embraced his mom. He had been alone for many years. He had suffered by himself for a long time. But, just one hug from his mother made all of his sufferings vanish in an instant. Everything was well in life again. Seth cried like an infant in his mother’s arms.

“I miss you, mom. I love you…” Seth kept on saying those words to his mother.

He felt his mom’s hand caressed his hair. “Did you have a bad dream, dear?” Vh6Bwk

Seth nodded his head. “Yes, after you left, everything became a bad dream for me.”

Seth’s mom laughed. “What are you saying? After I left? Where did I go, huh? It’s the weekend. You don’t have school and I also don’t have work today.”

Seth let his mom go. Then, he looked at her eyes. “You don’t remember what happened to you?”

“You’re confusing me, dear…” VWU36C

“Isn’t this the afterlife? You’re here to guide me to my destina—oh, wait! What the hell is happening?”

“How old am I, mom?” Seth asked.

Even though confusion was written on his mom’s face, she still answered: “You’re seventeen.”

“W-what?” Seth ran to the living room where there was a mirror. He looked at his reflection. Then he muttered: “Oh, shit!“ nG4Eet

Seth really looked like his 17-year-old self. His thin built, pale complexion, even his hair was cut short and clean just like what his mom wanted. Oh, shit. What was happening?

“Are you all right, dear?” Seth’s mom followed him in the living room.

“What is the current year, Mom?“ he asked.

His mom answered: “Huh? Well, it’s 200x.” Hd9ImJ

“200x?” Seth became excited. “Is it really 200x?“

“Yes…” His mom’s finger pointed at something in the corner of the living room. “If you don’t believe me, look at the calendar.”

Seth did what he was told. His eyes widened when he realized it was really 200x.

“Am I in my second year of high school, mom?” Yy5dvQ

“That’s right. Why are you being weird, Seth?“

His lips formed into a huge grin. “I can’t believe this. But, I am back! I am really back! Thank you! Oh, God, thank you!”

Seth’s mom placed her palm on his forehead. “You don’t feel sick. But, why are you talking like that? Is there something you’re hiding from me, Seth?”

Seth shook his head. “I’m just happy, mom…” He couldn’t tell his mom about the truth. She would think he was crazy. MNt5eh

“Let’s eat breakfast, then…”

“Yes!” Seth answered enthusiastically. He followed his mom to their small dining room.

While eating, Seth couldn’t help but remember the life he was living after his mother died. His Uncle Hans would not let Seth eat with the whole family. Seth had to eat after Uncle Hans and his family were done. Seth could only eat leftovers. He was not permitted to eat anything that was not offered to him. When Seth left his uncle’s home, eating a meal became a luxury to him. Seth was working his ass off 7 days a week. Eating was not his first priority. And when he did eat, he preferred those store-bought ready to eat meals.

Now that Seth tasted his mother’s home-cooked meals again, his heart leapt in joy. His tears began to fall again. Seth was crying out of happiness. He was finally home. uQof3O

“I don’t know why you are crying again, dear. But, tell me when you’re ready. I’m always here for you.”

Seth looked at his mother. She had a lovely smile on her face. Seth wanted to cry even more. How he missed his mom! When he looked at the calendar earlier, he realized that three months from now, his mom would die in an accident. Seth had to come up with a plan to prevent his mother’s accident from happening.

Seth wiped his tears. He devoured his mother’s meal like he had never eaten before. When he choked on the food, his mom was there to tend to him. When the food on his plate was almost empty, Seth’s mom attentively filled his plate anew. It had been a long time since he felt being cared for. Life with his mom surely was magnificent. Seth would do everything to protect his new life with his mom.

“Mom, can I go outside after I wash the dishes?” Seth asked his mom. e7cDQ2

His mom looked at him in disbelief. “Are you sure, dear?“

Seth chuckled. “Of course. I know how to wash them dishes, mom.”

His mom shook her head. “No. I’m talking about your desire to go outside. Aside from going to school, you seem to prefer lazing in your room instead of going out.”

“Oh…” That was the only word that came out of Seth’s lips after hearing what his mother had said. 1P3ZTE

Yes, in the past. Seth had a habit of staying at home all the time. His mom used to worry about that in the past.

“I want to change, mom.” said Seth. “Little by little, I want to be someone you can be proud of.”

His mom smile at him lovingly. “I am always proud of you, Seth my dear. Mom is always here for you…”

Seth held his mom’s hand. “Thank you, mom. I am very fortunate to have you as my mother. I will protect you no matter what.” q4XvMi

“Wow! You sound like a fine young man. My baby is really growing up. I like that.”

After having breakfast, Seth washed the dishes while his mom was doing the laundry. After Seth was done with his chore, he really did go outside. He wanted to explore the place where he grew up…one more time.

However, instead of walking through the whole neighborhood, Seth thought of running. So, he ran and ran with his might. The wind was blowing against his body and Seth couldn’t help bit scream at the top of his lungs.

The gods must have had heard his pleas that was why they let him redo his life. This time, Seth would do everything not to become the loser Seth that he was before. Everything he regretted from his previous life, he wanted to redo them from now on. This was the reset button he wanted so much. He died gruesomely just for this. Well, it might not be a perfect way for someone to die, but Seth couldn’t care less. That moment led him to this another chance in life. This was his reset. HE7Q D

Seth kept on running while screaming. Anyone who could see and hear him would think that he was crazy. Well, let them be. He was beyond happy.

Because Seth’s adrenaline was pumping like a madman, the appearance of someone out of nowhere caught Seth by surprise. He couldn’t stop running at the right moment, causing him to collide with the man that appeared at his direction out of nowhere.

“Ohhhh!!!! Ahhhh!!!!” Seth shouted out of fear. He knew he would stumble and fall. However, it didn’t happen. A hand caught his arm. His balance became stable. Though, his face bumped into something hard.

“What the hell are you doing?” said a voice. It was deep and pleasant to the ears. OxgSzt

Seth looked up to meet the stranger’s gaze. He was surprised to see that blood was dripping on the stranger’s face.

“Oh, shit! I’m sorry. I’ll bring you to the hospital—”

“Do I look too weak for you to concern yourself about me?” said the stranger.

“I ran into you and you’re bleeding!” NIgX4y

“You don’t have anything to do with this.” The stranger looked at him intently.

Seth’s mouth opened in awe. Although there was blood on the stranger’s face, Seth could still see how handsome this stranger was. His built was perfect for his body type. Seth had seen celebrities from his previous life, but in his opinion, no one had come close to this stranger’s handsome face.

“What are you looking at?” The stranger asked Seth.

Seth looked down in embarrassment. “N-nothing. Are you really okay? L-let’s go to a nearby clinic—” PTq3M4

“The bastard went this way. Don’t let him escape, fools!” Shouted a voice not far from where they were.

The stranger let go of Seth’s arm. “I’m outta here.” The handsome man started to run away. But, he came back after a few seconds and told Seth: “Go home, kid. This place is dangerous.” After saying those words, the man ran away from Seth and didn’t come back at all.

Seth was left dumbfounded. Then, he saw a few guys carrying metal pipes followed the man. Seth immediately reached for his phone, but his pocket was empty. Right, this was the past. Seth didn’t have a cellphone until he was 21 years old.

So, Seth went home. Called the police using their landline and reported about the incident that he had witnessed. IMjYb7

He couldn’t help but get worried about the stranger. Seth was hoping that he would be safe.

  2. is this a story of revenge or redemption? or both? or something else?

    please, don’t tell anything.

i rather suffer waiting in the dark.

  3. I like the concept of a reset because for a full decade of my life I wanted and needed one badly. Sadly I had to move on😞😞😞😞😞😞. Thanks for the chapter.

  4. Happy for his rewind. He doesn’t seem to have rly fucked up his past (unlike other MCs who goes back to their past). He was just a poor kid who probably had social anxiety and bad luck.
