The Ghost King's KeeperCh61 - Night Hunt | Scene 2

Promised Bonus Chapter (thanks again Allison)

After the whole drama with Acornis, Ruzen took the crystal ball with him for better surveillance. On his path to concur the limelight, Ruzen was constantly cooking up plans to think of ways to achieve that unprecedented glory.

Unlike others who relied on their brains to use less strength and capture their targets, Ruzen was urging his mental prowess to think up something grand enough to surprise others. Well, it wasn’t impossible to do it, but without prior intellect on the matter of what he needed to do, he might make a blunder instead. Really, being an over powered MC was really hard, he even had to think of ways to stimulate others.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

If it was on him, he would have captured the 3rd world creatures right after ‘defeating’ Acornis, but now he was not sure if that would garner him any special attention.

So what to do? ENdirH

Ruzen decided to go with Ghost hand, his trump card. All he needed to do was now pin point his targets nearby and lock them into position so that they cannot retaliate. Then capturing them would be easier.

Making up his mind, Ruzen took in a deep breath and focused his attention on his surroundings. Turns out there were other participants not far, preying upon their targets with ease.

Seeing this Ruzen had a sense of crisis. If he locked his target in place first before reaching the target’s location, the others might capture his target before him. It was like throwing meet at hungry wolves to scare them away, it was really not a good option to go through his current plan.

Then next up, his other plan also seemed inadequate where he was thinking of using his speed to capture his target before others did.

Tired of thinking, Ruzen reluctantly sat down on the mossy ground, bothered with his planning efficiency. Really, in desire to raise his ratings he was willing to be that arrogant frost prince, yet he was unable to see any openings that could pad up his glorious schemes.

Right. He forgot to think it this way, he could actually do what others were doing, but instead of targeting those 3rd world creatures alone, he could actually capture those participants as well. Now that he had two crystal balls, he could just capture the participants in the crystal ball that had Acornis, and the other one, his own, that crystal ball could be used for storing the 3rd world beasts.

Awesome!

He laughed to himself smugly, until another thought made him peeved. nFwhY6

He did not know how his decision would impact him, his scores and his future. What if, he was disqualified for being reckless? And he surely did not want any mishap to happen because of his carelessness.

Still… it could be a good gamble right?

If he was able to make a wave by being a strange airhead, then that would also do. Like if something were to happen the people watching would make sure to stop him. Because even if it was a competition, everything was monitored. And if Ruzen hadn’t been warned after Acornis’ capture, he was sure it would be alright to be a little daring.

Summoning his core energy Ruzen circulated it inside his body, calling forth several ghost tentacles sprouting from his back. They were translucent and sticky, with razor sharp knives poking out from the dotted suction cups which were similar to that of an octopus.

While Ruzen had never used knives integrated with octopus’ tentacles, he felt it wouldn’t be too bad to experiment now when he had time and elements to fight against.

A hot sensation spread through his legs as he sprinted forwards with a speed faster than a train’s, he was pretty sure that the ‘being’ that followed him was lagging behind unable to match up to his speed. cEmJs2

The rush of cool hair hitting his face almost made him feel like his face was burning. But he was too excited to stop. His senses were activated to their full potential as he followed the energy indications closest to him. He didn’t care if he was after a 1st grade or 12th grade beast, all he wanted to do was capture everything within his sight.

Soon, after a while of jumping and kicking, sprinting, Ruzen saw a huge four legged beast roaring at a small thing which was probably a participant. As luck would have it, just from its size, Ruzen could tell the beast was a 12th grade, it was similar to a massive lion, with tough shell like armour covering its belly and back, the legs ablaze with an unsettling cold fire.

From his understanding, it was a Deminus, a rare beast which hated humans to its core. For it to be prancing here, surely, it was deliberately released in this forest to make trouble for participants.

But Ruzen did not care at all. He released his tentacles towards the two targets, one stretching out to hit the female participant, and the other looking forward to tackle the lion hybrid. luOvsn

Sensing approaching danger, both beast and female rapidly drew back by instinct, but what they didn’t know, was that Ruzen never wanted to harm them into submission, from Acornis’ actions alone he knew that a momentary startle was enough to capture the prey.

So when he saw opportunity, Ruzen took that millisecond chance and threw two crystal balls in two different directions. One hit the female participants and the other hit the beast.

Within a blink, the two beings vanished and the crystal balls fell. Ruzen immediately retracted his tentacles and hurried to save the crystal balls from falling on the ground. Who knew what hid behind the veil of darkness, waiting to snatch his crystal ball. It was safer to safeguard the crystal balls while he was at it.

Sensing more chaos from a few meters away, Ruzen followed his senses and did the same thing as he did with the lion hybrid and that female contestant. To his delight his method was working flawlessly and he was able to wipe out several contestants and creatures around him without much hassle. loqLPp

In process he learned that the contestants, leaving out Acornis, where all very easy to tackle, and the beasts were not as powerful he had imagined. They couldn’t compare to the Vixen his Master had, even though it was not specifically a 3rd world creature.

While Ruzen was busy capturing his targets, on the other side of the screen, the audience was left gaping and astonished. They had never before seen someone wipe out his opponents this fluently and cleanly. To use crystal balls with such ease, they could tell the man was young but powerful.

In Manjo, several big shots were watching this show, and many influential men were already scheming to get their hands on this rare black horse.

Those who had previously participated in the night hunts were aware of how brutal it was, but looking at the young man picking participants and beasts left and right, they felt duped. Obviously they were expecting a bloody fight, but instead this young man showed them another strategy which was even more scary to look at. g9GpIm

Using Ghost hands was not easy, and being constant with speed and vigilance was also tiring, so someone who could maintain their stance for so long, was already mentioned as a prodigy.

Ruzen not only flawlessly made his worth known, but was also able to impress the viewers with his no-blood no-gore policy. People feared the cold blooded clashes, but when faced with such magnanimous operation, their hearts felt that everything was too easy. Was the difficulty level not par with this young man’s taste?

While entire Manjo and towns under the Protected lands were stunned with such unprecedented development, Ruzen was working in his own tune, devouring others as he went.

But of course, not everything was predictable, and soon Ruzen stumbled upon another obstacle which was even more dangerous than Acornis. wKxOL1

They were told that the highest grade would be 12th rank, but what stood in front of him definitely wasn’t just 12th in rank.

He shuddered with cold sweat.

A dragon like skeletal beast, with a golden heart sat sniffing around the air, the thick jaws snapping and opening wide as if yawning, and the size… well it was massive. Just looking at the horrifying beast, Ruzen was sure that such a thing could never be captured by that small crystal ball. Ruzen could sense the oppressive energy coiling around that golden heart which shone like light in the dark, and the faint glow from it lighted up the dark forest with a strange maliciousness which Ruzen couldn’t describe with words.

Taking in the situation, Ruzen knew he had strength and determination, but everything inside him was telling him to run. Even the ‘being’ that was following him suddenly started to glare at him with red dots, all of them blinking and blazing as if hurriedly communicating him with without making a sound. QLDmVy

Ruzen wasn’t stupid enough to make a move against such strange creature, he didn’t know what would follow if he recklessly went after it.

So without much thinking, Ruzen decided to leave, but because he was in such a hurry, his feet scrunched up over a dead leave, immediately arousing the beast’s vigilance.

Shit. He was done for.

Ruzen was beyond terrified when a sudden onslaught of immense pressure surrounded him. What Acornis, what beyond 12th rank, what this thing was… it would only be compared to those like Ghost King. RakQIB

Ruzen wasn’t exaggerating, because he knew… he had been ‘lucky’ enough to get assaulted with all kinds of aura and pressure because of his intense journey, and frequent run ins with powerful opponents.

He still remembered the tremors and the oppressive feeling that had assaulted his senses when the King had repaired the barrier with powers he still couldn’t compare to.

So when facing the sudden ‘rain’ of pressure, Ruzen decided to compare it to that of the Ghost King’s. Unfortunately, Ruzen knew that something wasn’t right with the way the ‘being’ was trembling and flickering with severe red dots as sparks seems to fly around it.

Was Accornis the one who had set this up? It wasn’t impossible, but the presence of a creature so powerful, in midst of a competition ground made him feel greatly unsettled. iFtmhW

The dragon skeleton with golden heart decided to stand up, screeching towards the sky as it did so. The ground shook as if thunder struck it, and Ruzen suddenly felt his head aching and nose staring to bleed under its impact.

He wasn’t even startled when the ‘being’ shook and fell to the ground, the red dots slowly fading away. It must have been unable to resist the shock waves.

Feeling trapped, Ruzen no longer thought too much, he took hold of the fallen ‘being’ and dashed in the opposite direction from that of the dragon. However, he was too late, the dragon had sensed his attempt and unleashed a huge wave of killing intent, rendering Ruzen paralysed from head to toe, falling on his knees as he clutched at his head as it ached vehemently.

This was something he never thought he would encounter; he was feeling rather helpless. qhvdif

While Ruzen was down and immobile, the audience was panicking. The screen was suddenly cut off and everyone who had seen the beast was aware that such a beast could never have entered the forest ground on its own. The barrier around the protected lands did not allow such creatures to step in, but then… how did this grade 200 beast suddenly show itself in their forest?

There was only one answer, someone had brought it in and they had malicious intentions.

He’Da was no longer entertaining himself with what others had to say, he immediately took off after his disciple. He knew that safety measures must have been taken and the security guards that were given duty during the competition would have been dispatched. But his worry was severe and he couldn’t just sit around in wait.

He rushed out on the streets, but was shocked to see that the entire night sky was dimmer than usual, as the glow of the city cast a faint light outwards, revealing a flight of skeletal dragons hovering over the sky, trying to attack the town, only to get stopped by an invisible barrier that protected Manjo. 6AUK7x

This had happened before, many times a lone beast from outside would stumble upon the barrier, but facing the shield, they would fly away in defeat. Yet now… so many dragons were trying to break the shield, the people who had been watching the competition were all awake and stumbled outside to see this scene in terror.

He’Da frowned, a momentary flicker of past knowledge suddenly came to his mind, worrying him… he had long before read that higher echelons of 3rd world creatures were bound by blood and their leader. If the leader went south, they would go south. So if they were trying to enter through the barrier, then…

Ruzen on the other hand was severely aching, his entire body seemed to have been supressed and his powers were in shambles. Even if he was better than most competitors, he knew that after just a month of learning he wouldn’t become all powerful and almighty, but when compared to the beast in front of him, he felt he was nothing.

Ruzen’s eyes widened as he saw the beast snap its jaws wide open and a little ball of energy started to condense in the middle… as if it was preparing to blast Ruzen into smithereens. uLDM6m

  2. Such a twist. Here I thought Ruzen had everything under control and then such a thing shows up to cause trouble. Lucky the King bestowed him with some protection. Let’s see what the thing on his back is good for. 😆

  3. Omg.. i wonder if it Acornis who did it or someone else. I hope Ruzen could run away.

    Thanks for the chapter

  4. Acronis? The people behind Ah’Hen? Other political parties? A deity? So many could be behind the madness.
