Special Chapter Three: Seven Years Ago
Quin unlocked his phone, reading the message that Theo had left behind.
Theo: Quin, stop acting like a crazed boyfriend; we are not together anymore and are just friends. I feel like I keep repeating those words all the time. Find yourself a hobby instead of acting crazy with me.
Clicking his tongue, Quin frowned at the message. He did not want to give it up on Theo, but Theo kept pushing him away. Maybe he should calm down before Theo completely stops speaking to him.
Getting a hobby, Quin thought to himself, glancing towards Nine, who patiently waited for Quin to finish on the phone and answer him.
Nine continued to fidget with his fingers, growing more nervous with each passing second. He waited for Quin to finish with his phone, feeling relieved and disappointed with the interruption. He feared Quin’s response.
Maybe I should not have said anything. Nine fussed with himself, fearing rejection. Rejection in life will happen sooner or later, but no one likes facing it.
Quin finally opened his mouth after a few more seconds of staring at Nine with thought, “Do you like me?”
“I wouldn’t ask to make the rumors true if I didn’t like you.” Nine nervously laughed with a quickness. Then, he instantly regretted his words, feeling like he was too sassy with Quin.
Would he like sassiness? Maybe I should try to be sweeter. Nine wanted to bang his head, wondering if Quin would like every side of him.
He opened his mouth to soften his words when Quin spoke before him. “Let’s go out.” Quin interrupted.
Nine’s mouth hung open, registering Quin’s words. His face and ears turned utterly red while he shyly rubbed his fingers together.

“D-do you mean like boyfriends?”
Quin nodded, grabbing Nine’s hand while intertwining their fingers. “Yeah. I want to be your boyfriend.” He could distract me from bothering Theo too much. Quin thought, accepting Nine’s confession.
Nine felt like he was close to passing out with excitement. He could not believe he was dating his crush! Ah! Forget about earlier; this is the best day ever! Nine’s mind was throwing a party while he tried keeping a normal face on the surface.

Nine spent the whole drive watching Quin in excitement. He could not believe his dream had come true.
Quin and I are dating!
“I have some exciting news!” Nine and Lee simultaneously exclaimed.
Jon covered his ears, looking at them with an annoyed expression. “Why are you two yelling so early in the morning?”
It was a new day, and they were outside at school, sitting on the benches by the trees. They came early to eat breakfast and chill before classes started.
Nine and Lee were quiet the whole time they got breakfast, but once they sat down, they simultaneously yelled.
They looked at each other and laughed. “Hey, Jon, you have no right to complain about us being loud when that is your default,” Lee commented.
“Lee! You promised me that you wouldn’t tease Jon until 8 am.” Nine slapped Lee’s arm.
“Hey!” Jon screamed, glaring at them. “I feel like you two are teasing me.”
Nine rubbed Jon’s head, “I would never tease my child. Do you want dad to buy you another snack?”
Jon’s anger quickly deflated, smiling with his teeth showing as he instantly nodded.
“Spoiled.” Lee rolled his eyes.
“Now, what’s the exciting news? Dad, you can go first.” Jon asked.
“I am dating Quin.” Nine answered, looking happy.
“Oh, congratulations, you are finally dating your crush. I thought you were never going to ask Quin out.” Jon patted his shoulder.
“Nice. We must have some good luck because Cassy and I are also dating.” Lee gave thumbs up.
“What!” Jon screamed, jumping up in his seat, “Who said you can date my sister?”
“Your sister when I asked her out.” Lee smugly answered.
Jon raised his fist, “Are you asking for a fight!”
Lee laughed hard like Jon said the funniest thing ever while Nine looked off to the side, seeing Cassy coming over. Jon continued to fuss until a hand slapped him over the head.
“Shut up; you are so loud! I can hear you from across the school.” Cassy joined in.
Jon quickly turned around, pointing at his sister, “Where did you come from?”
“Sadly, from the same place as you. If only I were the only child.” Cassy sighed, shaking her head like someone had told her terrible news.
Lee giggled, “Good one, Cassy.”
Cassy winked at Lee.
Jon stuck out his tongue, “You are just mad that I am the favorite.”
Cassy patted his shoulder, “You are only the favorite because you are like a child. People love spoiling a child.”
“Are you teasing me?” Jon squinted his eyes.
Cassy gasped, “I could never do such a thing!”
Lee put up his hand, asking for a high-five. Cassy high-fived him before sitting next to Lee.
Nine sighed; it seemed my headache was only growing. Nine did not speak with Cassy much and thought she was “normal,” but now he could see that Cassy and Lee were the same. But then again, knowing Jon, he probably should have known Cassy would be a “problem,” too.
Jon quickly grabbed Nine, practically shaking him as he fakely whined, “Dad, they are bullying me.”
“I am going to buy milk if you keep shaking me.” Nine complained.
“Dad, not you too!” Jon screamed in his ears.
Nine took a deep breath, closing his eyes as he begged for a miracle. And a miracle did come—in the form of his boyfriend.
“Hi, can I take Nine?” Quin asked when he walked up to the group.
Nine quickly pushed Jon off, standing up as he grabbed his bag and food. He ran towards Quin, not letting his friends respond as he said, “Hurry, hurry, let’s go.”
He ran off with Quin.
