The four were assembled at the police station and were ready to render justice for their first case.
“Now that we’re all here, let’s begin to compare our-”
Ash was about to take out his things when a delighted gasp came from the door of their meeting room. There stood Luna, in all her pig-tailed glory, with Susan standing next to her.
“Luna? Susan? What are you doing in this place?”
Luca wondered how they found out he was here. He hasn’t even told them about this gig yet.
“Oh, it’s easy, we got a call from your school saying you were attending police affairs, so we came to see if you had any issues. Susan got so worried I think she hasn’t even told Mother and Father! I thought you were up to something amusing. Hi everybody, my name is Luna! Oh, and bonjour, Ash!”
Ash has always loved this little girl, despite her numerous pranks on him, fully supported by her ridiculous and jealous brother. He was especially bitter about the time she did the coin under the water bottle trick because that was an innocent time for him, as he still believed she was a sweet and harmless little angel. How wrong could he have been to think that little kid could accomplish that much? But Hirokazu and Lily immediately adored the young girl and greeted her.
“Luca Dragos Carlucci, if you ever do anything like this again without telling me, I’ll make you eat the most tasteless English food for the rest of the school year!”
Luca couldn’t react for a minute until the embarrassment spread over his face. He really should have told Susan before he did all this that he wouldn’t be in this position right now.
“Ah, I’m sorry, Susan, could you forgive me? I’m not gonna do anything stupid, I swear.”
“I hope not, I raised you better than this! I am glad to see that you are doing something to help the community, although the Master may not be quite in agreement, as this reduces your school time.”
“Simple, we just don’t tell him about this. Even Rebecca would approve, but Father is a tricky one. I need time to find a good reason to convince him. And I’ll negotiate on the timings, so that won’t be a problem.”
Luca looked hopeful as he turned to look at Susan, who had a guilty look on her face. Then all hope vanished from his face because he knew she already called him.
“You’ve called him already, didn’t you?”
And Susan slowly nodded, much to his dismay. Luca started to pace and mutter in frustration, confusing the heck out of his friends. Why would his worried Dad coming over give such a tense reaction? It’s just his Dad, right? Not some military commander?
“Oh great! Now I have to come up with an explanation he can’t disagree to and fast.”
His friends couldn’t keep silent anymore and just had to ask why he was so tensed.
“Um, dude, it’s just your dad, right? And your middle name is Dragos?”
“Yeah, he shouldn’t be that scary, right? That is a pretty cool middle name though.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll be here for you so it’ll be no biggie! And Dragos is awesome. I should start calling you that.”
Luca paused his pacing and muttering to look at his friends incredulously at their remarks, even though they were being totally awesome and ignoring the fact he got scolded in front of them.

Luca looked like he found Nirvana and ran and squeezed her tight and kissed her on the forehead out of joy. Ash was used to this sis-con, but to Lily and Hirokazu, it was so new and adorable to see their friend showing affection to this little cutie they just met. Hirokazu was now wondering if he has some heart disease that only flared up around Luca.
“Okay, fine, your Dad is a pretty scary dude, huh? So what should we act like?”
“Mm, you should act like how you usually would with a terrifying person.”
Just as Luca finished saying that, a strict looking man stood right behind him with Hirokazu’s dad in a pretty bad state.
“Who did you say was a terrifying person, Luca?”
The moment his voice was heard, Luca and Luna straightened their backs while Susan maintained her impeccable posture. This change made the rest of the gang straighten up and look at each other in worry.
“Father! What a surprise! I was just referring to our new maths teacher back at school, we were just talking about how she would be coming in tomorrow.”
Back at the school, the new maths teacher just finished making tea for the janitor and herself and putting away the large bundle of materials she needed for her first class. She felt an odd chill and sneezed, making the old janitor worry about this sweet lady who would start work the next day.
“Are you alright, Ms Andosia? Would you like some medicine?”
“Oh no, I’m perfectly fine. I wonder who could be talking about me right now?”
Now going back to the station, an awkward atmosphere emerged once Roberto Carlucci made his entrance with a battered Ayame Ibata. Luca and the other people politely didn’t comment on his appearance and ignored it altogether.
“Now, son, I hear you would be helping with the police from now on?”
“Yes, I will. I will not allow my school hours to be affected by this and I will negotiate other timings or make sure I would not fall behind on my studies. I assure you that I will do this to gain connections to become a doctor and I will not change my plans on that.”
“Hm, okay.”
“But please consider this as something like an internship, wait… Did you say okay?”
“Yep, the only reason I hated police officers is this guy right here. Ayame Ibata, the only idiot who would ever think about crossing me on the exam and beating me on getting first place for the first year of college.”
“Come on, Roberto, you took that stupid class because you were free and didn’t even care about it. I just so happened to place first that year and you came along and decided to stay in that class just to beat me, which you never did!”
Roberto threateningly raised a fist towards Ayame and he shut up promptly.
“Um, Father, did you seriously uh… Beat up… The Chief of Police?”
“He asked for it when he decided to not appear in front of me for so many years and just met me now, completely by accident since he did not even know I was coming as he was making coffee. The idiot didn’t even bother to check if you were my son and thought you were just another Carlucci. And he calls himself the Chief of Police.”
“HEY! In my defence, your family is huge with lots of similar names and everyone is in the medical field now, okay? And I got my title fair and square with lots of hard work. I didn’t show because I was busy with things out of the country and I know you missed me loads. Just admit that you missed your best friend from college! You are such a tsundere, man!”
“You were my rival and I did NOT miss you in the least. You got lucky I went into the medical field so you got to be Chief and your wife was a nice person. Now, the best thing for you to do for doing this to me is coming to my house for dinner with your family. And stop calling me by that ridiculous term.”
“Works for me! I missed Susan’s cooking and how is Maria by the way? It’s been years since I saw her.”
The room got silent really fast the moment he asked that question, Hirokazu felt irritated by his idiot father’s lack of tact. Luca spoke up after seeing that his father couldn’t speak at the moment.
“Mr Ayame, my mother passed away 5 years ago due to cancer.”
“My God… I’m sorry, Roberto. I didn’t know about this.”
Roberto Carlucci gave a sad smile and shook his head.
“Maria… May God rest her soul in peace… Is gone but I have found peace and I have remarried a lovely woman, Rebecca. And I have a son and a daughter, Luca and Luna. Luca, you’ve met and this child here is my daughter.”
Luna gave a short smile and nodded her head, while Susan stood with a sad smile and gave Mr Ayame a nod of acknowledgement.
“A lovely family, so Roberto, let’s reminisce in my office, shall we? The kids have a case to crack and did you know, our brats already made their first arrest?”
Soon after the two fathers left, everyone gave out a breath of relief.
“Well, that was a lot of info in very little time. I never would have imagined your dad knew my parents or Susan.”
” Or the fact my dad was smart enough to come in the first place and anger your dad into friendship. Or the fact that picky eater likes Ms Susan’s food.”
Susan smiled at that and was about to say something before she held her head in embarrassment.
” Oh dear, I never introduced myself, did I? I am Susanna Baldwins, the housekeeper of the Carlucci family and do call me Susan, forget those honorifics, would you? And I would be absolutely delighted if you all would come over one day. And this little one, as you now know, is Luna!”
” Hello! I’m Lily and this is Hirokazu. This guy is the son of the Chief who just left.”
“Oh my! You’re Big Sis Lily?! I’ve always wanted to meet you! Not that I didn’t want to meet you, Big Bro Hirokazu.”
Lily looked absolutely overjoyed at the fact Luca talks about them and somehow made this girl star struck over HER. Hirokazu was in a daze from being called Big Bro since he only had an elder brother who he refers to by name alone. so such a title was never heard of in his household. Ash seeing this situation felt a little annoyed.
” Hey, how come I don’t get a Big Bro Ash?! You always just call me Ash?”
” You don’t deserve the title of Big Bro.”
” What?! But you just met them and you call them that!”
” That’s because they deserve it.”
” WHAT!”
Luna giggled endlessly as her elder brother looked annoyed with jealousy. Lily looked at the pair of siblings and understood why Luca was so jealous of Ash right now. Lily has a crush on Ash! That explains why this sis-con didn’t talk much to Ash. Hirokazu, the oblivious one as always, just found the pair of siblings to be very very cute. Ash stopped bickering with the little brat to remember what the two fathers were speaking about just before they left.
“Wait a minute, you guys already made an arrest?! UNFAIR!”
“How rude of you guys to make the first arrest! Fine, let’s make this one our first arrest AS A GROUP. Now fill us in on your first arrest, please.”
Luca grinned and got out his phone to show the pictures he took, much to Hirokazu’s alarm. A few minutes later, everyone was laughing their heads off and couldn’t stop giggling or chuckling when looking at Hirokazu.
Now let’s meet in the next chapter for the conclusion of the first case that might happen if no one interrupts again, while we wait for poor little Hirokazu’s embarrassment to get done with.
