“Excuse me, are you Qi Jia Senior?” Qi Jia was startled by a girl’s voice coming from behind. When he turned back, he was met by a tall girl, who was talking to him with her hand propped up against the chair’s backrest.
“Yes, and you are…”
“Oh, hello senior, I’m also majoring in law, second year. I saw you on the campus before.” The girl smiled and spoke. “I often pass by you on this bus and thought of greeting you today.”
“Ah, I see. Here, take my seat.” Qi Jia gave up his seat for the girl.
“Thank you, senior.” The girl beamed at Qi Jia.
Qi Jia found it awkward to start a conversation, having very little experience in chatting with girls alone and standing so close together. After mulling for a long time, he asked, “What’s your name?”
“Xu Qingcheng, but senior can call me Qingcheng.” Contrariwise, the girl was quite unrestrained in the conversation.
She then asked, “The senior always gets off at F University. Is it because you live nearby?”
Qi Jia thought for a moment and said, “No, I’m meeting with a friend.”
Xu Qingcheng’s eyes twinkled as she pried for gossip, “Your girlfriend?”
“N-no.” Qi Jia subconsciously denied it. But as soon as he did, Fu Siyan’s face crossed his mind and he felt uneasy.
“Then it looks like senior is still single!”
“Ah? Me…” As soon as Qi Jia wanted to explain himself, Xu Qingcheng suddenly tugged at Qi Jia’s sleeve. “Senior, here’s your stop. I’ll see you next time!”
Qi Jia saw this girl as merely a stranger. It would be even weirder if he tried to explain himself. With that, he only nodded, bid goodbye and hurried off the bus.
He thought their meeting was by chance, but instead, he ran into her already the next day. He was helping his professor with grading exam papers when Xu Qingcheng knocked on the door and came in. Her eyes lit up at the sight of him as she greeted him.
This was quite a coincidence, but Qi Jia smiled and nodded as well. He watched as Xu Qingcheng walked to the professor’s table without regard and placed a stack of paper on top of it. Not good. That was what Qi Jia exclaimed inside. This professor was notorious among students as the devil incarnate, who was serious in speech and manner, and especially cared about etiquette between teachers and students. Qi Jia and his peers would take a detour at the sight of this professor; he himself couldn’t even put up with this professor with his soft nature.
This young lady seemed quite sensible, but why would she be this disrespectful in front of this professor? As Qi Jia was about to say something, he heard Xu Qingcheng say, “Dad, I had edited this thesis five times, but Mr. Jiang still won’t accept it. He was also not very clear on what part is wrong. Can you take a look?”
“I had already fought for you. Moreover, I’m not your professor, there’s going to be a problem if I were to help you more.” The professor maintained his stern expression. “If anything, you’re already in your second year. If you can’t correct or explain this thesis in half a month, you’re going to be a joke.”
Xu Qingcheng curled her lips and quietly clicked her tongue. When she turned her head and saw Qi Jia, a bright idea suddenly occurred.
“Senior, how about you check it for me? My head is about to explode, and it is due next week. Can’t you help me to see if there’s any glaring errors?”
Qi Jia was stunned in place. How could he know the person standing in front of him was his professor’s daughter? Should he help or not?
“I…my knowledge is limited, at most, I can give you advice.” Qi Jia joked as he thought how bad it would look if he was to reject his professor’s daughter in the face. In the end, he accepted her papers.
“Senior, you’re the best!”
The professor didn’t make any comment, seemingly very pleased with Qi Jia’s way of handling this. “Oh right, how did you two know each other?”

Qi Jia quickly said, “Professor, you’re exaggerating. I don’t see anything wrong with Qingcheng.”
Xu Qingcheng wasn’t mad at all. She stayed silent standing beside Qi Jia, thinking about something. Qi Jia was wearing a very simple plain-white T-shirt. From her angle, she could see Qi Jia’s hair that was cut short and even, as well as the smooth nape.
It reminded her of her first year of college, the time when they were in the middle of military training. Basking under the scorching sun, the girls were all sitting on the ground, resting. Each and every one of them were suffering from a dizzy spell. Because everyone was wearing this military uniform, ash green was the only color as far as their eyes could see. Around them was the stink of sweat, suffocating and annoying. Just as Xu Qingcheng was about to reach the end of her patience, a smudge of brightness suddenly came into her view.
A guy with soft-looking hair that was slightly curled, dressed in aqua-colored short sleeves and white, loose shorts, was standing at a step not too far away and taking pictures. A senior beside him saw this, went over and patted his shoulder. He said something to the guy that made the guy raise his head and smile, revealing his pearl-white teeth. Under the sunlight, he was a breath of fresh air and vivid.
Actually, Xu Qingcheng was not the only person who noticed him. There were many other people whispering into each other’s ears. The guy didn’t have the most stunning appearance, but he had this clean and very special temperament.
Just like a cold breeze in this cruel summer.
Xu Qingcheng was not one to sit around. On the same day and after her military training, she went to the student union and inquired about the guy from a female senior she was familiar with. What she learned was that the guy was a graduate student. Today, he was asked to come in at the last minute to take a picture in someone else’s place, so he wasn’t part of the student union either.
Learning only the person’s name made her feel disheartened. This senior seemed to disappear without a trace. That day forward, she saw no sight of him. Until later, when she heard the same name out of her own father’s mouth. Only then did she feel encouraged once more.
She quietly studied Qi Jia for quite a while. After asking a few simple questions about his thoughts on her thesis, she left her father’s office.
Once Qi Jia finished recording the last two exam papers, he left the professor’s office and ordered a take-out meal with rice, meat and vegetables at the dining hall. Recently, Fu Siyan had been busy developing this new program, and often forgot to eat. When Qi Jia heard about this, he delivered food to Fu Siyan every day, as well as forcing his boyfriend to eat.
As a person who already skipped breakfast, now he was not eating lunch properly too. As soon as Fu Siyan forsake meals, Qi Jia would pretend to be angry, point to Fu Siyan and say, “Are you trying to mess up your stomach? What if you get stomach cancer, get an early death, and leave me all alone?”
This instantly jabbed at Fu Siyan’s sore spot. He instantly stopped what he was doing and ate his food like a good boy.
Although the two of them are now living together, they don’t cook during the day, and with how busy they were with school, other than eating lunch together, they rarely see each other during the day. Even at night, oftentimes, Fu Siyan would come home tired and fall asleep as soon as his head touched the pillow.
He was really tired, he even had eyebags to prove it. Now he looks haggard, compared to the last few years. Qi Jia then massaged Fu Siyan’s temples, then wrapped the tired man’s arm around his shoulder and buried into Fu Siyan’s arms. Before he fell asleep, in a daze, he compared their days together to the same as an old couple that had been together for decades. That wasn’t a bad thought.
A week later.
As Qi Jia was getting ready to get off of his stop, Xu Qingcheng appeared out of nowhere. “Senior, are you heading to F University?”
“Yes, I am.”
“Then let’s go together. I also wanted to visit F University.”
Qi Jia was taken aback. Because of the pressing time, he had to get off instead of chit chatting, he could only say yes, “Eh…alright.”
When Xu Qingcheng and Qi Jia entered F University, Xu Qingcheng said, “I actually was here when I was really young. My dad used to teach a few doctoral students from F University and took me along once.”
Qi Jia nodded.
“Oh right, senior, do you plan to study for a PhD?”
“Not really. I don’t have the academic ambition.” After some reflection, he added, “You better not tell Professor Wu.”
“Not a problem.” Xu Qingcheng made an okay gesture. “I actually don’t even plan to attend graduate school, but my dad wanted me to follow in his footsteps and become a university professor.”
“I can’t really give you life advice with animated gestures. I just felt that following what interests you is more important. As long as you have passion in what you do, no matter what you decide, it will be the right decision.”
Qi Jia talked as if the words slipped out of his mouth without thinking, but his calming expression could convince anyone.
Xu Qingcheng inwardly repeated his words several times and simply engraved them into her heart. She opened her mouth and said, “Senior, what you said is right! My dad always praised you at home, how you’re neither arrogant or impatient, and very dependable.”
Qi Jia smiled. “I’m not as great as you describe me. I actually don’t actively take the initiative.”
“No, of course not. Senior, you shouldn’t undervalue yourself. Oh right, where are you heading?”
Qi Jia’s original plan was to head straight to Fu Siyan’s workshop, but it was not feasible now with Xu Qingcheng around him. Thus, he replied with, “Qingcheng, I need to deliver something for my friend. Why don’t you check around the campus?”
Xu Qingcheng checked the thing and asked, “You are delivering food?”
“Yes, he hasn’t eaten yet, so since I’m on the way, I brought him a portion.”
After a few seconds, Xu Qingcheng said, “Alright, senior, go do your thing. I’ll check this place around.”
Qi Jia nodded, turned and went straight to Fu Siyan’s workshop. Fu Siyan worked on this project with other students. They practically live in the workshop. In the workshop was a large table with more than a dozen computers on it. People circled around the table and clicked madly on their keyboard.
“Siyan.”
Qi Jia pushed through the door, and Fu Siyan turned over, like he had telepathy. “You’re here.”
“Fu-ge’s love lunch is here again. Just the thought of a single dog like me could only eat my lunch with my computer, too fucking sad!” On the side, Li Bin shouted while making eyes.
“You fucking eat twenty-five-yuan lunch and still dare to wail?” That was from Zhao Yiliang, someone beside him.
“Buddy, can you focus on the main point? Is the main point the twenty-five-yuan lunch? The main point is the people he gets to eat lunch with.”
The people in the room were smiling playfully.
Qi Jia was beet red. He passed the bag in his hand to Fu Siyan, who pulled him to an empty room.
It was probably a classroom that was rarely used, judging by the disorganized seats. Fu Siyan sat down first, then he pulled Qi Jia to sit on his lap.
“Hey—”
“Don’t worry, there’s no one around.”
This put Qi Jia at ease. He leaned into Fu Siyan’s arms, noticed Fu Siyan’s bloodshot eyes and said in distress, “Your eyes are bloodshot. Didn’t I ask you to take an hourly break?”
“Sorry darling, I forgot.” Fu Siyan buried his head in the crook of Qi Jia’s neck and took a deep breath. “To see you every day is the equivalent of me getting rest. Really, I found that just the smell of you wakes my brain up instantly.”
“You must be smelling the food. Eat first, then go take a nap.”
“Feed me.” Fu Siyan opened his mouth and kept his arms around Qi Jia’s waist.
Qi Jia rolled his eyes. Left with no other choice, he opened the takeout box, scooped out a mouthful and sent it Fu Siyan’s way. Fu Siyan smiled. He knew when to stop, after getting fed by Qi Jia once, he put Qi Jia to the seat next to him and quickly cleaned his food.
Once Fu Siyan was done eating, Qi Jia cleaned up after him and tossed everything in the trash outside. Once he came back to the classroom, he saw Fu Siyan massaging his temples.
In distress, Qi Jia said, “I’ll move the chairs and you can take a nap on my lap?”
“Sure.” Fu Siyan nodded. Qi Jia placed two long stools together, and sat on the side, leaving room for Fu Siyan to lay down, who then placed his head on Qi Jia’s thigh.
“Did you lose weight?”
“Why? Complaining that your lap pillow isn’t comfortable enough?” Qi Jia brushed through Fu Siyan’s hair.
“That’s not it. I could feel you have lost weight. I have been spending too little time with you. I’ll make it up to you once this project is completed.”
Qi Jia smiled and accepted the offer.
“I actually can’t fall asleep during the day, but I don’t mind resting my eyes for a bit. If your legs get numb, let me know.”
Qi Jia smiled and covered Fu Siyan’s eyes. “Go to sleep. You can’t fall asleep if you talk.”
Fu Siyan seized Qi Jia’s hand, pulled it to his face and kissed it. Then he placed the hand on his chest and slowed his breathing.
Qi Jia quietly studied Fu Siyan’s face. His heart ached upon seeing the darker dark shadow from working more tirelessly from day and night.
Fu Siyan was a light sleeper during the day. Not long after he fell asleep, the sound of footsteps outside the room woke him up.
Qi Jia saw the frown between Fu Siyan’s brows and helped massage them. “Sleep a little longer.”
“Let’s not. I get a headache if I take too long of a nap.” Fu Siyan yawned. As soon as he sat up, he leaned and kissed Qi Jia, who quickly allowed the other party an entrance. Fu Siyan bit Qi Jia’s lip and asked, “Are you heading home after this?”
“Yes, I’m done with most of my agenda this morning. Since I don’t have afternoon classes, I can go back and tidy the house. I noticed the layer of dust collecting in our kitchen yesterday.”
“Alright, don’t overwork yourself.”
‘Then I’ll be off.” Qi Jia gave Fu Siyan a hug, got up and left the building.
Fu Siyan stretched, ready to head back to the workstation. As soon as he stood up, he noticed a flash of light beside him. Qi Jia dropped his phone on the seat.
He hurried out and saw that Qi Jia had already left the hallway. He then ran downstairs. As soon as he got down the stairs, he saw Qi Jia standing at the flower pond right outside the building. Beside him stood a girl in a yellow dress. They looked very intimate with the girl pulling on Qi Jia’s arm with two hands and talking to him with a smile.

thanks for the chapter!
Honestly if more straight novels had (female) characters like Xu Qingcheng I’d enjoy them. Even though she unknowingly developed a crush on a guy who’s already in a relationship, at least XQC (who doesn’t know that) is taking the initiative to get to know him.
