Nabu looked out the window, having his own clear view of the chaos happening outside. He made sure to look through a spot that wouldn’t get him noticed by others, but then again, people are busy.
He did not know how to feel as he saw his people in pain and growing sick. Honestly, he could not find a clear read of his emotions. He never felt them before until River and Kiyt came, so he still could never understand what courses through him.
Sighing, Nabu got ready to glance away when a raven appeared near him. It landed on the edge of the window as Nabu noticed a small note tied to its leg. He gently pulled the paper off, and once it was gone, the raven quickly disappeared.
He moved away from the window, holding the note as he sat down on the bed. When he unfolded the paper, Nabu smiled once he saw his son’s handwriting.
Kiyt said he missed them before drawing a picture of all of them together. He probably knew that it would only be sent to River, but he still said how he misses his papa and daddy.
Nabu sighed. He misses his son a lot. He cannot wait to go back and see him while finally staying. Although, he does wonder if Prince Cyn will allow him to return with them.
He knew Prince Cyn already guessed about him, so he could only hope Prince Cyn would be nice enough to allow him to travel with them, especially since Prince Cyn hadn’t snitched about his location.
As his thoughts continued, a knock sounded at the door, causing Nabu to pop up quickly. He pocketed the note, looking around the room for something to cover himself.

After finding a long scarf to cover his head, he wrapped it around, covering his hair. Then, he grabbed a face mask, putting it on before walking towards the door and opening it.

“I feel like I have been away for a lifetime, and it hasn’t even been that long.” River mentioned.
Nabu joined him on the bed, sitting down next to him before responding, “That’s what I always feel when I leave you two. That’s why I cannot stop myself from coming back early each time.”
Looking up at Nabu, River could see his own emotions reflecting off Nabu’s eyes. He leaned closer, resting his head on Nabu. “Even though the circumstances aren’t good, I’ve been thinking about all of us being together. I can already see Kiyt’s bright smile.”
Nabu could see it too. He knew how excited Kiyt would be, and he especially knew that the boy would say he wouldn’t want anything for his birthday because he would finally have his dad there, staying.
Then, a short, selfish thought coursed through him, causing his demeanor to change as he furrowed his brows, playing with his fingers.
I can never ask River for this. He thought to himself. But, he couldn’t stop that part of him that now craved a family.
Noticing the change, River picked up his head, glancing long at Nabu, “What’s wrong?”
Nabu shook his head, “It is nothing.”
“You want me to be honest with you, Nabu. And if you want that, you need to do the same. It is far too late for me to walk away, so say whatever you want, I won’t leave you.”
“I—,” Nabu started before swallowing down the lump in his throat before continuing, “Would you like another child? I know Kiyt would love someone else to play with, and a selfish part of me wants more with you.”
River looked away, his hand digging into the bed as a frown appeared on his face. Seeing River’s low mood, Nabu wanted to take back his words. “It is fine if you don’t. It is only a self—”
“Ask me again in a year.” River quickly responded, cutting off Nabu’s words.
“W-What?” Nabu stumbled as his heart felt like it was soaring.
River looked at him, staring him straight in his eyes with a severe expression as he repeated, “Ask me again in a year.”
Nabu made sure not to show how excited those words made him. But, nothing stopped him from capturing River’s lips, bringing him down on the bed.
A year.
He would make sure not to mess up, so he could ask River again in a year.
