Lin Yijun’s chest felt tight and wrong as he quietly watched Zhou Sheng sit down and talk with Wen Zhihao with an open and friendly expression. Despite the grey robes and the altered features, Lin Yijun still recognised Zhou Sheng’s mannerisms.

He wanted to be down there too…No, he wanted Wen Zhihao gone so that he could talk with Zhou Sheng.

But he remembered Zhou Sheng’s harsh face that night. How he had lost standing in Zhou Sheng’s eyes when he failed to understand what was happening.

Lin Yijun’s hands clenched, as his heart thumped erratically in his chest. He just needed to go down there. He just needed to say— kcx62u

—Say what?

What would be right? What would be enough?

He couldn’t get the thoughts out of his head. He was wracked with indecision. And there was no one Lin Yijun could talk to about this, no one to help him sort it all out.

The faction that Liu Yijun technically belonged to, the faction that his parents were in, was headed by Elder Wang.

NOvItM

Elder Wang and the others maintained a disdainful attitude towards the actions of Liu Zhongmin and the others. They, as cultivators, were not obliged to help the mortals.

The mortals should help themselves, or else they’d become lazy. We’re not their servants!

And so none of them had volunteered to aid Liu Zhongmin in a task that had no reward and took away their cultivation time.

While Lin Yijun hadn’t echoed their condescending words, he also didn’t join the efforts. Because…he hadn’t known how. Because he hadn’t known if he wanted to… wRq 6f

Zhou Sheng was different from the mortals that Wen Zhihao bought back.

Years ago, when he bought Zhou Sheng back, his parents and Elder Wang hadn’t been like this. They had seen Zhou Sheng’s cultivation potential, and the Sect Leader Elder accepted Zhou Sheng into the sect as a disciple.

But of the mortals Wen Zhihao bought back—Lin Yijun had examined them from afar—none of them had the same potential as Zhou Sheng did.

They weren’t the same as Zhou Sheng. They won’t be as good as Zhou Sheng. CzPTlW

“I’ll return and see you again soon,” Zhou Sheng was saying. wEMBor

“You know where to find me. Ah, now that Sun Fuyu is no longer helping you out, let me give you some more calming stones for the mortals…”

Zhou Sheng patted a child on the head and stroked a demonic beast before leaving.

In a knee-jerk reaction, Lin Yijun followed Zhou Sheng as he walked out of the sect and into the surrounding forests. There, Zhou Sheng’s aura disappeared without a trace.

Lin Yijun slumped. After stretching out his qi and finding nothing again and again, he could only head back to the Sect by himself. vdjrka

After Lin Yijun left, Wen Zhihao soon forgot him in favour of more important matters.

As the non-cultivators gathered back in the kittens’ enclosure, Wen Zhihao had everyone recite the words they should have learnt earlier. Thank you, past life knowledge of optimal information retention… If2QlU

Somehow, the rest of the afternoon flowed away and it was time for dinner. Wen Zhihao led everyone back to the kitchens. While the others ate, he asked Aunty Liu Jing for another food box because he had given one away to Zhou Sheng.

“Next time, tell him to come here so I can tailor a box for him!” Aunty Liu Jing said.

“I’ll tell him, but he seems a little shy,” Wen Zhihao said.

Liu Jing knew who Zhou Sheng was—he was the allegedly-rogue cultivator who Xiao Fuyu had been helping to retrieve the poor people who had been enslaved. Shy was not what she would describe Zhou Sheng as, but she already knew that Xiao Wen’s brain circuits were a bit different from everyone else. IJDtuF

“At least you should tell me what he likes,” Liu Jing finally said.

Wen Zhihao nodded. “Yes, Aunty. I remembered he liked dumplings…”

After dinner, Wen Zhihao took the children back with him to the rooms and ran the baths for them. Now that they’ve become more familiar with their surroundings, they were able to play in the water and talk amongst themselves in their little voices.

“Cute little baobei cats!” PBTIlA

“No, I think the big ones are better!”

“Cute big baobei cats!”

“I think Uncle is the best…”

“What about Grandma? Grandma is so nice…” xmvjsd

“SPLASH!” Bubbly little laughter.

“Splash you back!”

Needless to say, the bathrooms were very wet and messy after that. Wen Zhihao ended up showering’ himself and had to change his clothes too.

Wen Zhihao finished drying the hair of the last child just as Sun Fuyu returned. He couldn’t help but pinch the cheek of the child, Ah-Yi. “Your Little Uncle Sun is back,” he said, putting aside the towel. 5wJDgB

“Little Uncle!” Ah-Yi jumped up from the bed and ran over and opened the door first.

Sun Fuyu stepped in. His hair was a little messy, and his face drooped tiredly. However, his eyes brightened when they met Wen Zhihao’s.

“Wen-ge.”

Wen Zhihao navigated past the toys and miscellany scattered on the ground. “Welcome back, Xiao Yu,” he greeted, leaning forward to accept Sun Fuyu’s light kiss. uN8Z25

Ah-Yi grabbed the bottom of Sun Fuyu’s robes and looked up. “Welcome back, Little Uncle!”

Sun Fuyu looked down and patted little Yi’s head. “En, I’m back.”

Wen Zhihao looped an arm around Sun Fuyu’s waist. “Little Uncle is tired. If you want, you can give him a hug to help him power up again!”

“Okay!” Ah-Yi hugged Sun Fuyu’s leg. uFjVtl

Sun Fuyu’s lips curled up. The things Wen-ge says! he thought fondly. Ah-Yi wasn’t a cultivator, he couldn’t actually help Sun Fuyu regain qi!

“Now you kids, clean up the toys and get into bed, okay?” Wen Zhihao said. “When I come back, you better be pretending to sleep!”

Ruan Lanxi giggled. “Yes, Uncle!”

The moment he and Sun Fuyu left the room, the children burst into noisy action. VsoLei

He and Sun Fuyu exchanged a little about their day, and then while Sun Fuyu washed up, Wen Zhihao headed back to his old room to tuck all the children in and pat their heads until they all fell asleep.

And then he went to Sun Fuyu’s bed and hugged his own Xiao Yu.

“…You smell different,” Wen Zhihao realised. He tugged Sun Fuyu closer and sniffed his just-dried hair. “Like mangoes.”

In the darkness, it was difficult to see the hint of redness on Sun Fuyu’s cheeks. “En,” he agreed shyly, as Wen-ge stroked his hair. The tingling sensation sent a shiver down his spine. He tilted his head up and kissed Wen-ge on the lips. “Wen-ge likes it?” hvLliG

Wen Zhihao’s heart swelled with warmth. “It’s sweet, like you.” He pulled Sun Fuyu closer to him.

A nice place to live, a nice job to work at, lively children, and someone to say ‘welcome back’ to…Wen Zhihao found that he was very content with this kind of life.

Sun Fuyu took the initiative to place a hand over Wen Zhihao’s waist and to tangle their legs together.

“I’m glad I met Xiao Yu,” Wen Zhihao murmured quietly. 2kYcUw

“En,” Sun Fuyu agreed. He remained still, tightly aware of Wen-ge’s heartbeat, and how his hand was touching Wen-ge waist

As always, Wen-ge fell asleep first. Sun Fuyu nudged his head closer to Wen-ge, happy that changing his hair wash worked.

  2. I’m here for Lin Yujin’s journey. I’m interested in seeing how he sorts it all out.

Also so sweet that Wen Zhihao remember’s Zhou Sheng’s favs.

Thanks for the chapter and the rec! (if you meant it to be a link its not working, but its cool I found it)

  3. Pretty fan art! I like the sweet domestic fluff in this chapter. Thank you author! Lin Yujin needs to get with the program or to piss off!😤

  5. Lin Yijun is getting closer and closer to an emotional break-through and I AM HERE FOR IT!

Character development doesn’t happen in a day, and for a character to change for the better there actually needs to be moments that they were wrong and the self-realization about it. And I really love these growing moments with Lin Yijun. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

  6. Am i the only one hoping that this salted fish will stop sleeping first and they both sleep together for some productivity?? 🙂

    Thanks for the chapter!!

        • Lin Yijun is getting closer and closer to an emotional break-through and I AM HERE FOR IT!

Personally, it doesn’t feel like Zhou Sheng is like an uwu-baby who didn’t do anything wrong in his past life either. cuz ch66 seems to show that Zhou Sheng did use other people’s blood for a demonic ritual instead of just his own, breaking the personal bottom line he had promised himself and Lin Yijun, and the demonic ritual did make things worse and ended up hurting innocent mortals at the nearby town.

It feels like a communication breakdown on both sides and both parties convinced that they are right. Lin Yijun is arrogant and self righteous and full of pride for being the ‘Golden Boy’ and thinks everything he does is right.

Zhou Sheng is full of anger and also full of pride for thinking he can do demonic cultivation and live in a Sect that thrived on killing without it having any negative effect on him mentally. ( and also the question of why he wants to advance his cultivation so badly and what he wants the power for exactly. is it to protect innocents from being hurt like he was? or is it for revenge and death to all those who harm others as judged by him?)

Wen Zihao and the calming aura is really the best scenario because it can allow both of them to reflect on their actions without falling too deep in the hurt. Because Lin Yijun wanted Zhou Sheng to only act in a way he dictated, and Zhou Sheng wanted Lin Yijun to be his savior even though he was also just a teenager same as him. angst angst angst

I feel like 50-60% of the reconciliation can begin from clearing one misunderstanding:

Zhou Sheng thinks Lin Yijun doesn’t like him.

Lin Yijun thinks Zhou Sheng doesn’t like him.

Pssst. They both like(d) each other very much.

          Good Luck to you both.

This is just my personal interpretation of these characters and I don’t mean to impose them on anybody. Although the burden may rest more heavily on one (we all know who), I just simply dislike one party being blamed for everything, especially in complicated relationships. And I really really like character journeys and positive development!

Thank you for the chapter author!

and sorry for the long-winded comment but I kinda hope you had fun reading it.

And I really hope it goes through this time 🙂

          • Yay, nice to see your comment went through!!

Indeed, the big failure in Zhou Sheng and Lin Yijun’s relationship is the lack of communication. Both of them…weren’t taught any better, either.

Luckily Wen Zhihao has talk/cat therapy to help these cultivators out

Zhou Sheng thinks Lin Yijun doesn’t like him.

            🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that’s a really cute summary!

  8. what a sweet children~ I wonder how much better it was if my neighbor’s children can be the same (the person who almost everyday hear ghostly banshee scream) (>﹏<)

    thanks for the chapter~

    • en, children in stories like this do seem better than RL children 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 It helps that Wen Zhihao’s aura basically is a very effective anger management tool, and also… the kids may also be more obedient because they still hold some fear of Bad Things Happening if they don’t listen…

  9. Lin Yujin: I want to sleep with zhao sheng no i mean fight him in a brotherly fashion.

MC&ML: uh huh sure you do

Kittens: we will not give up our new pet * lays across Zhao Sheng’s lap*

Lin Yujin: But he was mine first cries

  10. Thank you for the update. I will go read that novel, too. I am into slacker life novels these days. I have been reading Trash of the count family and MC really really just wanna be a salted fish. It’s heart warming to read.

  11. Thank you for the novel recommendation it is now 2 o’clock in the morning and i couldn’t stop reading until i got to chapter 33

  12. Lin Yijun be singing “that should be me” by Justin Bieber through out this chapter huh.

Also fun fact about that fanart: that’s the second version ’cause the first version I made of that suddenly got deleted just after I finished it, and I got so mad I did that version without sleeping lmao

Thanks for the wonderful chapter ヾ(>o< )╯

  13. I love that there’s mango scented hairwash and that Xiao Yu actually used it cause he knows his Wen-ge likes mangos!!! I’t adorable ☺

Also, you go LYJ, figure stuff out for yourself! Maybe you’ll be able to accept some help (from WZH probably, I don’t thinks there’s anyone else…) in the future. He’s probably what would have happened to WZH’s little bully from the earlier chapters (forgot his name) if our resident therapist hadn’t stepped in before it was too late… 😅

    • Sun Fuyu using little tricks to make Wen-ge closer to him~~

To be real, figuring stuff out by yourself can be quite tricky and hard. Sometimes it really helps just to have someone listen…..Of course, Lin Yijun could have been helped by Wen Zhihao’s aura before, but he didn’t accept it back then….we’ll see if things change now~

  14. Qtja vlv Qfc Itltjb tjnf atja Olc Tlpec vlvc’a?

    Idk, BRAINS???

But I liked this little vinegar jar.

  15. None of them had the same potential as Zhou Sheng did. Is this fore shadowing? A flag or what? I don’t know why I’m thinking that the mortals Wen Zhihao bring would turn into cultivators after being basked with WZ aura !

Just blindly guessing don’t mind me !

And my laziness go away !

    Thanks for the chapter (≧▽≦)

  16. Ahh.. xiao yu is so cute !!! I wanna pinch his cheeks … Ahh the kids are so cute .

Is it only me I somehow am starting to feel a little sympathy for lin yijun

    😅

Thank you for the chapter <3

  17. Poor Lin Yijun, no wonder he has zero social skills with a family like that! They totally lack empathy, the poor kid doesn’t even know how to interact! I hope he can be courageous to talk to Wen Zhihao so he can help him 😣!

The scenes with the children are so endearing! They are just too cute!!! Very child like 😆

My heart melted with this welcome back. It was like a milestone of what a beautiful relationship is. To make every simple action a meaningful moment ❤️

It’s not like they aren’t making we eat dog food al the time, but I really liked it 🥰

And then our eager Sun Fuyu had to change his hair wash to grab Wen Zhihao’s attention.

Come on, Wen Zhihao!!! Your man needs you!! 😆

Author-san, thanks for the chapter 💕

    • Yeah, Lin Yijun is a poor kid! Luckily there’s a dad around 😏😏😏😏😏😏

Glad you like the scenes with the children~ And the domestic “welcome back”!!!!

Someone needs to bonk Wen Zhihao on the head, huh? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  18. I don’t know why I delayed so much time reading this novel. Now I regret not reading it the day I found it. And thanking bafflinghaze for all the recommendations, I’m also blaming you for the tabs that’s making my browser slow 😂
