Chapter 75
I hid around the casino, before finally making it into the washroom. As expected, I immediately heard the sound of the door being pushed open behind me, before seeing Agares’s figure making its way in. Kicking open the window, I saw that the ocean was merely a step away, and I could jump into it at any given moment and just throw away this chaotic night behind me. But my body became frozen in place.
——Damn it, until now, I honestly didn’t really want to leave. I just wanted to make Agares stop his animalistic way of handling things and for him to communicate better with me, but I had failed. Now, I was frightened by Agares, and I was still shaken up by the scene of what happened just moments ago. I had no doubt that, if I had gone against his will, he would have captured me again and punished me until I knew my place.
God knows that I seriously did not want a repeat of what happened just now, but I also didn’t want to leave Agares while grieving, fearful and full of doubt. I opened my mouth, wanting to say more things, however, my throat felt like a fishbone had been lodged in it. My mind roared, but I just looked at him like a puppet with a loose jaw, awaiting for his answer.
Unexpectedly, Agares just stood there quietly, three meters away. He didn’t rush forward to grab me or anything. Rather, he just stood, looking at me through the reflection of the glass. His unfamiliar face was stiff, as if changing his appearance also changed his attitude. Except he still had those eyes, which emitted a unique glow from the pupils, that all merfolk had.
I really couldn’t make out what his fish brain was thinking, and, after a while, I finally saw that his lips were moving slightly. Talking in a low volume, he commanded, “Go ahead and leave Desharow. Go back to your ship, and stay away from me.”
Those few words left me extremely shocked. Fog thickened in my head as I stood there. At that moment, I questioned if I had gone insane or not, or if I was just dreaming. Everything happening right now must be my imagination; this was the only reason that could explain why Agares was being so fickle and contradicting right now. However, I knew this was reality. After all, it was minutes ago that he had stood before me, forcing me to stay, but now, he was wishing for me to leave me.
“Fuck you! What the hell is with that?! Are you fucking kidding with me?” My heart felt extremely troubled, feeling clammy like it was dripping with blood. Now, I really wanted to jump out the window and leave, but anger and unwillingness resided in my heart. Rushing forward with a clenched fist, I grabbed Agares by his collar with both my hands and knocked him back into the corner of the wall without a warning. I stared into his unfamiliar face and spoke through gritted teeth. “You bastard, just what’s with you?Did your personality, er no… perhaps fishality split up into different parts? Or are you tricking me deliberately? You said I didn’t need to be afraid of you, that you’ll let me know everything about you, but how can I do that when you’re contradicting yourself? Before, I was afraid… I was utterly scared to death by you Agares, because you were so mysterious, frightening and fickle, but now I’m not terrified of you. Yet you’re like this again… I really can’t understand you.”

“Stay further away from me.” He stated these few words again in a deep voice.
“I will not!” I blurted out without control. My hands pressed on his body with more force, “Tell me about what happened just now and that strange… mutation of yours—with your eyes and your behaviour…”
“I’m very dangerous, Desharow!” He suddenly lifted his hands to grab my wrist, peeling me off his body. Then he lowered his head closer to my face. His voice bellowed like thunder was exploding in my ears, “I will become more and more dangerous!”
As if in response to his warning, there was a flash of lightning outside the window. The glaring, white light tore through the darkness, illuminating half of his face. He appeared to look even more sinister and ferocious just then.
My breathing hastened as if clenched into the palm of a hand. I took in a shaky breath of air and told him,, “You’ve always been dangerous, Mr. Lord Chief. I’ve already experienced it first hand from the first time you did all those things to me! You had let me drown into them, and now how am I supposed to free myself? I can’t possibly accomplish that! If you want me to stay away from you, that’s not enough. You have to be more dangerous… ”
“You…” Agares tightened his grip on me, making my pulse hurt from racing. The accumulated blood in my veins rushed to my heart, causing my head to swell. An impulse surged throughout my body, making me wrap my hands around his neck. I wanted to move my lips up but he recoiled back like he was afraid to touch me. In the end, his head was forced back against the wall by mine. I tried my best to stare into his bottomless eyes, to try and see through his heart like how he was able to with mine, and to explore and touch everything that belonged to him.
My lips twitched. I stared at him with glaring eyes and responded to his warning, word for word. “I’m very selfless and sacrificial, especially when facing things I don’t want to give up. You do scare me, but don’t think that this fear will hold me back.”
His eyelids trembled faintly. I couldn’t see if his pupils had any change in them, but I clearly knew that my attitude shocked Agares. Ha! He perhaps didn’t predict that his Desharow, the one who was always running away from him, would take the initiative to attack and interrogate him here. This gave me a small sense of balance in my heart. I indeed still had yet to fully know Agares, but at least he didn’t understand all the factors of my personality. If I was fish bait, then Agares was the big fish that would firmly bite onto me, but instead, he would be caught firmly by the hook hidden in my body. And I wasn’t willing to let that fishing line break.
“You don’t know what I’ll become…” Agares suddenly said after being silent for a while. His hands moved to my waist, and his spread out fingers trembled. The ice-cold sensation seeped through my clothes. “I could originally suppress it, but once I’m in close proximity with you, it becomes more and more impossible for me to control it…” His lips were next to the bridge of my nose, and cold air came out from his mouth. “Once it’s released, I could possibly kill or maybe even eat you. I might even squeeze you dry… Desharow!”
A clap of thunder sounded out suddenly. I mumbled out in astonishment, “It…what is it ?”
I held his head, trying to calm him down, but my body was instead pushed away by a dangerously strong force, rendering me to hit the window. The glass behind me cracked upon contact, causing broken fragments to cut into my skin. However, I didn’t feel any pain.
“Dark matter…” Agares stared at me, managing to squeeze out these few words with great difficulty through tightly gritted teeth. Scrunching his suit above his heart, his fingers dug into the material and blue blood dripped out from the holes. Furthermore, from the lightning, I could see there were small lines building out and wriggling under the skin of his cheeks, like something wanted to drill it’s way out from inside his body. They made his eyes look like they were smudged by dark ink markings, and the colour was slowly eating away at the whites of his eyes.
I thought back to the horrifying scene just earlier, and couldn’t help but back away a little, nearly causing myself to fall head-first into the sea. But, I immediately grabbed onto the windowsill and stood dumbly in place. I stared wide-eyed at Agares as his body bent down like a tree falling after being infested with termites. His arms supported him on the floor, but his back twisted around weirdly, like he was a possessed person fighting with evil demons that had infiltrated his body.
However, once I regained my senses and wanted to go forward to help him, Agares suddenly issued out a terrifying hissing sound, “It is thirsting and yearning for you even more than me… Desharow, hurry up and leave this ship! Now!”
“Hey, what’s going on inside there? Who’s yelling?”
Beyond the door, the voice of a drunkard called out as someone knocked on the door. It soon busted open the next moment. Breaking into the dark washroom was an intoxicated man, but before I even had the chance to break out of my daze to see his face within the rays of light, wrenching screams, the sound of someone’s body being ripped apart, and the noise of splattering and gushing blood resonated through the small room. At the same moment, Agares’s shadow began to resemble a demonic monster and flashed past my vision, carrying the scent of a hunter in the cold wind, Agares had plunged himself directly into the dark, sea waves.
Wiping away the dense, sticky liquid that splattered onto my face, I staggered back two steps before tripping over something. Looking down, I saw a pile of something that was badly mangled. Perhaps, it was a head, or some limbs. I couldn’t differentiate it nor wished to. Huddling myself into a corner, my arms and legs felt like jelly as my ears rang loudly; like a broken metal clock was constantly ringing over and over in my head, making the world spin around me continuously. The surrounding noises instantly became non-existent aside from the sound of my own rapid breathing.
Damn it, where did he go?
Wide-eyed, I searched the ocean for any trace of Agares, but, within the perilous waters, I could only see layers of white, crashing waves rolling around. There was no way to look for him. Furthermore, my mind and eyes had already become confused and messy. An intense foreboding riled up in my heart—so intense that it was overwhelming, making me actually smell the scent of impending death for the first time. Perhaps this time, Agares really would die.
This thought instilled itself in my head, leading me to climb over the edge of the window, trample through the broken glass, and jump down without any hesitation.
Placing myself in the huge turbulence sea, I looked all over, shouting the best that I could to locate where he was, but it was fruitless. Not only that, the storm was getting more violent. I realized that if I didn’t get back to the ship, I would be lost in this vast sea. So, with great difficulty, I swam all the way back to the Poseidon. The only fortunate thing was that Kolov, the captain, wasn’t around, and that the rest were already asleep due to how late it was. Thus, nobody noticed my return.
That very night, I developed a high fever, and still Agares had yet to reappear. Whether I used the ship’s radar or explored around with the sonar, I still couldn’t detect his whereabouts. Just like this, two or three days passed me by so disorientedly that I wasn’t aware if it was morning or night. Only when I heard the beeping sound of the sonar detector going off did I wake up from my chaotic nightmare.
Apparently, it was night time right now. I rushed to the deck and looked at the sea, feeling the same excitement I felt when discovering a merman for the first time. However, this ship didn’t have any fishing nets, and I also couldn’t pinpoint Agares’s location. With only my vision and my sense of smell to rely on, it was practically like trying to fish up a piece of grain in the ocean. I stood at the edge of the deck and waited for a long time. Just when I was about to lose all hope on the boundless ocean, I suddenly heard a muffled smacking sound coming from the side.
I turned my head in response to the sound. Out of nowhere, there was a dark figure appearing on the outer edge of the deck. Accompanied by the heavy breathing I was familiar with, his body climbed up and fell heavily onto the deck. A long, black tail meandered around as it was hauled upward weakly and laid by my feet.
“Agares!” I was taken aback. I looked around nervously, and seeing that nobody saw anything, I immediately dragged him into my own cabin.

Translator Cheonsa has something to say: Aah, I don’t know why, but this chapter gives me so much feels!!! I had skimmed over the raw novel at first to see if I want to really translate this novel, and now being able to dissect this novel word by word, I became more in love with this novel. Honestly, I personally don’t understand Desharow’s nature, because I am the complete opposite. I am quite selfish and would always constantly avoid things due to laziness.
But seeing him from a different point of view, I somehow get it. Like why he always seems to love facing death, which at the same time, I can also see why a lot of readers find Desharow stupid at some parts, haha. Cause even as a translator I wanna slap my forehead and sigh due to his choices. But I guess it was just part of who he was, even he had admitted it himself, LOL
Anyway, We couldn’t do anything special for the holidays for you guys, sorry about that. I will be returning to translate the next few chapters, giving Jade some rest, so if nothing is going on in my life, I might be able to post an extra chapter this week for New Years.
