A World AssimilationChapter 8

The siblings talked some more, and mother Shen became happier with each passing second. She would look around at her children’s faces and smile even more brightly. “I want to ask Shen Yue,” she said, seeing how everyone was relaxed and casual, “I heard you had some problem in EAE, what happened?”

Shen Yue groaned in fake agony, sliding down the sofa, her skirt bunching up high, so Shen Meng flicked it down. “I got in trouble with the dean. My master told me that I had to take a pill to support my cultivation, crossing 3rd stage isn’t easy, but I accidently took an… aphrodisiac from the pill hall instead of relaxant. You know how at certain times the staff isn’t around… I didn’t read the label because I felt the pill was a familiar blue, so I took it blindly… and the dean caught me taking that pill when he was taking a round on campus. He didn’t know the specifics, so he took me to class, and scolded me in front of my master. It was too embarrassing. He punished me to stand every class until a week and even barred me from finals…. then brother Hao helped me clarify the entire deal with the help of my master. When the dean finally calmed down, he scolded me again for being such a clueless cultivator. And now I have to learn a 1000 pill mandate, the dean will personally test me.”  BvL7mP

Shen Xi was laughing by the time Shen Yue ended her story, and even Shen Bo couldn’t help but take another look at his stupid sister. Only Shen Meng looked worried as she had a silent conversation with their mother with eye gestures.

Shen Yu huffed, he had known about this because the day Shen Yue came back crying, Shen Hao was with Shen Yu, asking something about some document father gave him. The both of them were startled to see Shen Yue so red in the face, her tears rolling down in constant flow, she looked pitiable. They both wondered if it was father, their doubts soon cleared up when she told the entire story.

“I still am not sure why they keep aphrodisiac in pill hall…” Shen Yue whined.

“Aphrodisiac pills are there for Dual cultivation practitioners,” Shen Bo said bluntly, “EAE also cultivates Demonic cultivators, and those who are of age, some of them choose to dual cultivate, so they can take the aphrodisiac pill in case there is a need, and most often than not, the students do take one. You are a righteous cultivator; anyone could see you weren’t allowed to take that pill.”  0giqBE

“Wait? But aren’t they still very young, I thought they practiced dual cultivation after 30 or when they were at 4th stage of Foundation Establishment, isn’t that generally the most appropriate time?” Shen Xi asked, looking baffled. He hadn’t studied at EAE, so he didn’t get into contact with Demonic Cultivators who started early. “They can practice after 18 if they can land the 3rd stage, who told you it was 30… and 4th stage? That happened a few centuries back old man!” Shen Bo looked stunned, were both his siblings that stupid? “You lot need to mingle more often, or else, you would stay this clueless for your whole life. Not everyone is as slow as you, there are many hidden geniuses who reach 3rd stage before turning 18. 18 is just a mental threshold.”

3rd stage of Qi Condensation was the deciding stage for which path of cultivation the cultivator would choose. The two paths of cultivation were separate, so even the academics and job opportunity separated the two due to necessity. Only where both practitioners were needed was there a need to club the two paths together.

Even if he was an idol, Shen Xi hadn’t seen many demonic-cultivator fans, it wasn’t due to discrimination, but just, their worlds were different. The Demonic Cultivators often did night shifts, their jobs were carried out at night, they cultivated under the moon, they slept during the day, their friend circles had different outing times… it was all due to demonic cultivators cultivating at night. They had no reason to wake up early in the morning and watch the sun. Only when they wanted or had something to do during the day would they wake up early. And if they wanted a change of scenery.

The same went for the Righteous Cultivators, they took up energy from the sun, practiced lighter path, and did their work during the day. It was a necessary distinction.

Reason why the cultivators of different paths won’t mingle too often, only a certain few enjoyed getting along. Because even if they were cultivators, they didn’t want to waste energy being awake throughout the day. Sleep was also necessary for a better Qi circulation.

But it didn’t mean they were not curious about each other, so they mingled on Galactic server, and everyone knew about everyone, however, there was a limited interaction due to lack of interests. Even idols were segregated and not many idols had equal number of fans from both cultivation paths. Shen Xi was someone who wasn’t curious about a lot of people, so it wasn’t surprising that he was asking such a question.

Also, all the cultivation families send their kids to one academy until the kids reached the 3rd stage of Qi Condensation. After the deciding factor, the young cultivators would distinguish into either the night classes or the day classes [if the academy cultivated both paths], or they would choose another academy [an academy which was established for a specific path]. Until 2nd stage, every child would have classes together, and EAE was an academy which maintained both paths. Shen Yue was 19 and she had reached the 3rd stage of Qi Condensation, she attended the day class.

Shen Yu remembered that due to his condition, he studied along with the 2nd stage cultivators but never participated in cultivation classes which weren’t theory specific. He was pardoned from practical lessons, but that didn’t mean he didn’t go with the rest of the class when they left for practical teachings. Generally, the classes were distributed by batch numbers that were age specific. Shen Yu was 15 when he first joined an academy after being homeschooled for so long. Because he wanted to take a look at the new environment, and escape his home, his father allowed it, except, Shen Yu couldn’t fail in any exam or he would be taken away.  5PMXxe

He was batch 9002 and his batch was full of 2nd Stage Cultivators. They practiced Inedia, and he was the only one who stood out, since he ate sustenance pills. Food was only available for children who were young and hadn’t crossed the 1st stage, so if he wanted to eat, he would have to go to canteen to have some food, along with a bunch of kids who were much younger than him. It was shameful.

Only, there was this Kai Matsuda, who was at that time, also a 2nd Stage Cultivator, in batch 9000. After getting ‘bullied’ several times Shen Yu got to eat milk candies that Kai liked. He would ask Shen Yu to fetch his ‘meal’ that was a packet of milk candy every lunch, and sometimes his meals were sandwiches and veggies. Their civilization had shortage of food because cultivators practiced inedia and it was wastage of land to do farming. Only home grown or in house farming was done in order to sustain young children. Or if someone was craving a delicacy, they would order food, it was very expensive, many clans even regulated food output.

Nobody got hungry enough to have food cravings when not in mission world… so it was a little redundant to eat if there was no interest.

Sustenance pills were there for those who somehow Qi Deviated, and temporarily lost their core. And Shen Yu ate that pill for majority of his life. His clan didn’t want to waste grains on a lost cause so they stopped his food intake after he turned 7.  O4dtAW

Shen Yu looked at his siblings who were busy discussing clan laws and recent military achievements. It was a lively discussion and Shen Yu didn’t want to dampen their mood, he just sat there, listening to them.

Shen Yu wasn’t aware that his face has started to show some hint of emotion which couldn’t be described, but mother Shen saw this look and frowned in concern. She raised her hand and touched his soft hair, patting his head, “What happened my Yu, you don’t look good. Do you feel unhappy about something? Tell mother, mother will try to solve your worries.”

“…unhappy?” Shen Yu felt stifled, he wasn’t unhappy, where did his mother see that look? “I am not unhappy.”

Mother Shen appeared to be a little skeptical, “But you look so glum, what’s wrong?”  1OdlcJ

Shen Yu frowned uneasily; he didn’t know what was wrong. He might be just missing his academy days of eating milk candy… hm, that was it.

“I want to eat milk candy.” He requested; his cold voice softer than usual, he felt stupid, like a kid, but he missed milk candy. And the rest of the siblings were busy talking among themselves so they didn’t notice him. He was thankful for that, for some reason he didn’t want them to see him like this.
