“You didn’t eat?” Shen Yu wondered aloud, and then paused, he had almost forgotten Kai didn’t need to eat, he practiced inedia.
“I will just watch you eat.”
“At least have a taste…” Shen Yu opened the first package, it was a flower shaped dry cake, almost like bread. Upon tasting a bite, it seemed very sweet but delicious, not greasy or sticky at all.
“Is it good?” Kai mumbled, sitting on the bed with his eyes closed, he looked like he was dozing off, almost.
“Um,” Shen Yu made a noise of approval, walking over to send a bite to Kai’s mouth, and watched as the other ate it without even opening his eyes. “How is it? Didn’t you like sweets before?”
“It’s okay, too sweet though.”
“Yeah, but it tastes a different sweet, sort of fruit-ish.”
“Hm.”
After Shen Yu finished up his piece, he felt a little drowsy in the relaxed environment, and he felt all the more miffed as he watched Kai resting so leisurely.
Touching his full stomach, Shen Yu didn’t think much, and hit the bed, feeling very warm and fluffy. He closed his eyes just like Kai, lazily sniffing the clean sheets beneath. So maybe that silver wasn’t wasted…

He checked for any other damage on the body, including the head, when finding none, he finally applied the ointment to the face, covering the red marks on the cheek and the temple.
By the time he was done with everything, Shen Yu was already deep into his sleep.
Shaking his head, Kai got up, kept back the ointment, and went over to arrange his own bath.

When Shen Yu opened his eyes again, the room was dark, without a single trace of light inside, only a faint hue came from the window, too faint to even notice.
But touching around, he discovered that he was covered with a light blanket and the night was particularly cold. Shivering instinctively, he got up to look around. With the elven heritage, he could see some of the details, including the bed next to his, it was empty.
There was an extra tray kept on the small desk, which was next to Kai’s bed. On the tray, Shen Yu could see there were two dishes, one was liquid, like soup, and the other was fruit salad.
Since elves ate fruits, Shen Yu assumed Kai had ordered it considering his taste. It was unknown what time it was, but he believed the night was long.
Getting to it, he reached for the food tray and sat on Kai’s bed without any reservation whatsoever. The bed was cold so it must have been a while since Kai slept or sat on it, thinking of how they were collecting material and clues, Shen Yu was sure Kai had gone out to search for them.
He recalled that he fell asleep in the middle of getting treated, and an almost unnoticeable blush rose to his cheeks. Touching his arms and feet, he could feel that they no longer felt stingy or painful.
Pulling at his hair in habit, he smiled to himself, it was just a slight curve, very small, but very honest.
Although he was alone, Shen Yu didn’t feel he was alone, there was a presence inside which wasn’t Kai himself, but it felt like Kai’s.
It would have been intriguing if Shen Yu could see the other presence, but since he couldn’t, he assumed Kai had commanded it to guard in silence.

Thinking of random stuff made him sleepy again, so he just closed his eyes without guilt and dozed off rather quickly.
It was a light sleep yet was enough to make his body heal faster; and if someone really came barging in, he would know.
Time passed, and a strong presence suddenly latched on to their window, making the half-asleep Shen Yu instantly alert. He knew it wasn’t Kai, Kai’s aura was different, almost wild and unkempt, yet it never directed any harm towards himself, however, this aura was malicious and had an intent to kill.
Getting off the bed, Shen Yu moved towards the area where he knew Kai’s presence could be felt, the bound beast must be hiding there.
When the window didn’t open on first try, the intruder tried again, but he was unlucky even the next time, and a sudden burst of energy filled with green sparks attacked the intruder.
It was a different sort of magic, a protection charm which wasn’t Kai’s…
Shen Yu didn’t think anyone else would protect him, they weren’t familiar with anyone.
…so it only left the gremlin.
No wonder the room was expensive, that gremlin was not just for show, he provided protection as well.
It was a surprise to Shen Yu.
A dull thud sounded as the intruder couldn’t tolerate the backlash and fell, a low muffled groan came from below. However, he was not alone, several figures suddenly attacked the curtained window, three of them, and two others tried to break in against the protection magic.
Sparks flew, and things looked very grim.
Taking the opportunity, the bound beast that had been hiding in the room, leaped up from the shadowy corner, jumping from shadow to shadow until it reached the window, and slipped out with ease.
The attackers couldn’t even scream when a huge shadow with sharp teeth jumped at them, gulping down the three and working on the other two as they stabbed it with long weapons and magic arrows.
But the beast was immune to such trickery, it was swift and clean, leaving no traces as the enemy were destroyed in one go.
Shen Yu sighed in relief and jumped on his own bed to rest, he had another scare but this time he was okay. He didn’t even shudder in fear, maybe because he knew his attackers were nothing against the bound beast.
Once the peace was restored, things were back to normal.
