Shen Yu turned back to hide his rolling eyes, he wasn’t omnipotent or almighty, this was his first mission, and he couldn’t do much about finding clues.
“Then let’s get going, we need to get out of here first before anything else,” Kai’s voice didn’t hold any commanding attitude, but Shen Yu listened to him by instinct, it was a given, since the mission had to be completed, and they couldn’t waste time laying out unfounded clues.

But a second later the visibility suddenly increased, and belatedly, as Shen Yu stared at the back of the person who had walked ahead, he realized that the curtain of darkness shrouding his senses could be the magic of a warlock, or a detection gauge of a demonic cultivator who practiced the shadow arts. Although restricted by the mission world, cultivation techniques were always unhindered even in other physical forms, they were like a special cheat, making transmigrators more powerful than average locals. The warlock magic was just an additional attribute that created illusion for hoodwinking locals.
“What was that?” Shen Yu still asked, despite knowing that asking such things meant prying into someone’s cultivation base. But he didn’t think Kai would snub him for being inquisitive, generally he answered all his questions.

He realized that despite being hungry, he was able to walk around without getting too tired. His core was in shambles yet except for some psychological shadows and mental exhaustion, physically he was not struggling to walk that badly. The residual impurities were certainly there but maybe because he was an elf, being near trees affected his performance by some extent.

It was almost daybreak when Kai stopped beneath a humongous mountain tree, carefully looking at the crown of other nearby trees. He was looking for the tallest tree. It didn’t take him long to jump over several branches to reach a higher altitude, his figure fast and nimble.
Shen Yu kept to himself and didn’t speak, breathing in and out to maintain his tiredness. He understood that Kai didn’t need to walk this slow but for Shen Yu’s sake Kai didn’t say anything about their travel time.
Looking up, Shen Yu marveled at the light that spread over the night sky, covering most of stars and revealing just the heavenly bodies that lingered some distance away from the planet. The sky was a pale bluish hue, as splashes of orange came into existence.
Shen Yu didn’t ask if Kai found anything, it was just a little awkward to keep chatting when Kai looked this serious about something. Unlike what others believed Kai wasn’t someone who chatted for long periods, he was capricious and erratic, his entire being was surrounded with a fierce sense of danger which people didn’t want to step around.
Those who found him harmless were probably shown that façade on purpose.
Judging by the looks of it, it was reasonable to say that there was something wrong with the forest. The silence was creepy and the air was very stagnant, the qi flow was not constant.
The further they walked from the pool, the more stifling the surroundings became. This unpredictive change wasn’t noticeable at first, but after exploring the entire night, and even during dawn, this outcome became even more probable.
A sound of rustling was heard as Kai landed right in front of Shen Yu, very silent and light. His lips curving at the corners, he asked in a low voice, “Hungry?” the question was a bit hoarse, probably because they hadn’t spoken for a long time.
“A little,” Shen Yu replied softly, he didn’t hide his craving, his stomach had been grumbling since long. Kai must have heard it as well.
Kai looked thoughtfully at Shen Yu as he said, “Elves don’t eat human food like grains and pulses, or even meat, but fruits and spiritual wine is their thing. Malcum seems to know this.”

He also didn’t quite understand why this was the case, however, he wasn’t keen on making Kai angry again.

It might be Shen Yu specific. He might be trying to train him to be more assertive/less timid. As we can see SY doesn’t have a high opinion of himself and doesn’t ask for things even if he needs it. Like food when he is clearly hungry. Hunter probably doesn’t like his wife putting himself down so it has been banned. Though, I could be talking nonsense.
