A Royal PainCh2 - The bodyguard trope

He did not like it.

Taishin did not like this change of plans that came so late in the game. But… he had sighed. The prince was due at 11.30 am and they didn’t have a lot of options. 6ermBb

He’d do it, certainly. But he believed he warranted an explanation as to why he was getting suddenly called out when it was already decided that he’d not be the one in charge of the hosting. And that was why he was currently standing in front of the chairman who was shaking like a leaf, looking like somebody whose wife eloped with the farmer next door.

“Sir.” Taishin smiled. “It isn’t that big a deal. I’ll do it but please tell me why the sudden change of plans.” This was the tenth time he’d asked the chairman what the heck was going on but he paled every time the question was asked and kept dodging it.

He wanted to let it go but didn’t want to when he realized the old man was going red in the face. He really, really wanted to know now.

“I told you,” the chairman fidgeted, sweeping non-existent hair off of his bald head as he said, “It’s because they wanted to conduct a sudden interview regarding his arrival under the orders of the king and because they’d been live recording the scene.” odp4Eq

Taishin still smiled. “And you can’t do this interview as we planned prior because?”

“Because I might not look like the best person on camera.”

“Sir.” Taishin inhaled sharply. “I believe you can come up with better excuses than that.”

“This child…” chairman pulled a book from his table and pretended to read. “That’s the end of the discussion Taishin. You’re the student council president and this was originally meant to be your responsibility anyway.”

“Sir, that’s not nice,” Taishin said, biting back his urge to snap, “You changed plans arbitrarily and demanded me at your beck and call. The least you can do is give me a proper reason as to why this is happening.” Though he was only simply curious. The chairman didn’t need to know that.

The chairman raged and got up from his seat. Then leaned furtively and whispered at Taishin, “This will stay a secret between me and you. Got it?”

The chairman reddened as he said secretively, “So um apparently the 3rd prince has err… certain conditions on what kind of person should welcome him. He had specifically stated that er… ‘Wrinkly old baldies’ should absolutely not appear before him.” TcLAZ2

Taishin smiled, his lips twitching.  “That supposed to be a compliment sir?”

“Majorly yes,” The chairman said. 2UDjCF

“How very kind of you sir.”

“Of course.” The chairman looked about. “It’s not just the physical appearance we deem important here. You’re the student council president and the face of our school; we cannot afford to make mistakes when there’s an interview and live recording involved.”

Ten minutes and 45 seconds later, Taishin was standing before the Tenjou University gates with a garland at hand and a swarm of students behind him at either side of the stone aisle that leads to the main building. Red and white- the symbolic color of Tenjou University hung down from different portions of the campus grounds as decorations. The vice president of the Student council; Hirotaka, stood beside him with a gold cloth to welcome him.

Taishin decided to ignore that he was standing and burning under the vicious sun and was starting to get numb from all the rigid standing. All the while this 3rd prince had the audacity to get late and keep them waiting.

With every sweat drop that dissolved he felt his smile faltering too. He could now understand from where the rumors of the prince came; this level of arrogance to keep an entire school waiting can only come from sheer power. Power that’s either physical or mental; intelligence or strength. Or both. It seemed he’d severely underestimated him.

This was it. Taishin was this close to throwing the garland away and walking out of the school ground when the loud sound of a vehicle approaching stopped him. All the students snapped their attention towards the road where a shiny, black Limo came to a stop.

The doors of the Limo opened evoking a very dramatic thud in the premise as a slim leg poked out of the space. It was a foreigner in his late twenties with honey colored, quaff hair and completely black attire.

Hirotaka beside Taishin gasped.

Wow. He could hardly believe what he was seeing. This guy looked like a bodyguard no matter how one examined him. And he also comes in a stereotypical Limo wearing black glasses to top it off. These motherfuckers actually pulled a, “Sorry, my boss is gonna get late I’m the bodyguard” trope on them. 62FdSY

The man walked up to Taishin and held out his hand, “My name’s George Astor. I’m the third Prince’s Secondary bodyguard.” He seemed extremely fluent speaking the Inlan native language for a foreigner.

Taishin looked startled for a second then quickly shook hands with him, ““My name’s Taishin. Taishin Honda.”

“Pfft,” George laughed at that, “that sounds like the name of a car company, just kidding—”

He stopped himself when he found the sudden increase in strength of Taishin’s handshake. micXJ

Taishin gave him an icy stare. “Mr. George. You will not repeat that. I shall kindly forget that you were insensitive enough to laugh at someone’s name and compare it to a Car Company. So you’d tell me where your boss is and respectfully find yourself a corner to get on with your business.”

His name was Taishin’s biggest pet peeve and he would not have anybody touching it. He especially would not have anybody comparing it to a freaking car company—even if they were right, there’s no real reason why anybody would want to bring that up, would they? Unless they wanted to get on his nerves and he didn’t take to derision kindly.

Just as George was about to reply his phone rang and he immediately used his left hand to answer.

“Hello, yes?” George exclaimed, “What?! The prince went on a mission and might get a few more hours late? Oh, and?” George went ahead with the phone conversation and when he finally hung up, he turned to Taishin. d IvE8

“Can we change the venue of the welcome to the balcony?”

“Why?”

“Because the prince would land on the premises by his private jet.”
