The auditorium was packed with students. Some had a satisfied look on their faces, while others had a noticeably happy visage. A man who looked dignified and successful was speaking about his life experiences on the stage. Everybody was listening to him with eagerness.
Well, everybody—except Fran. Fran was busy looking at his phone; he was waiting for Noah to answer his text messages. But to no avail, it had been thirty minutes and his messages were still left unanswered.
It was supposed to be a special day for Fran. Oh, yes, it was his graduation day. His parents were among the crowd sitting on the upper part of the auditorium. There was also a reserved seat for Noah. Though, his boyfriend had yet to arrive.
Over the years, Fran’s relationship with Noah had been smooth-sailing. Okay, no relationship was perfect, they knew that. Fran and Noah sometimes had their moments when they would argue. Their relationship was not only composed of rainbows and butterflies. However, both Fran and Noah always made it a point to kiss and make up before the day would end. For them, love was a choice. Fran and Noah would always choose to love each other no matter what.
Fran was very proud of his boyfriend. When Noah graduated, he received the highest honor among his fellow students. After graduation, Noah officially started his work in his family’s company.
Many people doubted Noah at first. They thought he was just a spoiled brat who got lucky because his family was well-off. But Noah proved those people otherwise. Noah worked harder than anyone. Fran saw drops of sweat formed on Noah’s forehead. Noah suddenly looked tense.
“What’s the matter with you?” Fran asked Noah. “Do you want to go the bathroom?”
Noah shook his head vigorously. “No. I don’t have to. Let’s go?”
Fran grinned. “Sure.”
Fran went with Noah in the latter’s car while his parents went on their own. After a few minutes, Noah’s car parked in front of Mister Jin’s shop. Sean was there to welcome them.
Well, not only him. Fran’s immediate relatives were also there. His Uncle Steven and his family, his aunt Angie and her family, even Fran’s grandma was there. Of course, Natalie and Nigel were also among the guests.
The inside of Mister Jin’s shop was decorated with flowers and balloons. There was a small makeshift stage and on its center was a chair. Noah escorted Fran to the stage and told him to sit on the chair. Before Fran could ask anything, a woman who looked and sounded like a host appeared. Wait, Noah planned a whole event just for Fran’s celebration?
The ‘program’ started. The host cheerfully greeted everyone. Then, she proceeded to call on Fran’s family to offer a short congratulatory message for him.
Fran’s parents went first. His mom couldn’t help but cry while she talked about how proud she was of her son. Fran’s dad was the opposite; he kept on telling jokes, and was smiling, laughing and being merry the whole time.
Next were Fran’s relatives. His uncle Steven expressed his happiness because of the fact that Fran would be now be officially part of the Grande Company. Fran’s aunt Angie was very animated in her message for Fran. She even teased Noah and made him blush.
Fran’s grandma was emotional. She gave Fran a kiss on the cheek and locked him in a tight embrace. Fran couldn’t help but shed a little tear because he could really feel his grandma’s overwhelming love for him.
Sean gave Fran a heartfelt message. He even reminded everyone about Fran’s friendship with the late Mister Jin. Sean thanked Fran and told everyone how grateful and proud he was of Fran.
Nigel gave a very short message. Natalie—everyone’s ray of sunshine—made everyone listen to her sweet voice while being mesmerized by her lovely smile. Natalie’s transition from a sweet little girl to an elegant woman left them speechless. Fran heard from Noah that Natalie’s suitors were piling up each day. “But, I am happy to have met someone like you in this lifetime. You made my life worth living. I thought, I could just go on with my life without any care in the world. However, I met you. You made it so easy to fall in love with you.”
“Two imperfect beings, you and I, but somehow we made it work, we are still making it work. Our love binds us together. My soul belongs to you and yours to mine. I can’t wait to be with you—every day, every hour, every minute, every second of my life!”
Noah began to shed tears. But he still looked compose. His mission was not yet done.
“Franco James Olin, will you marry me?!”
Fran stood up and hugged Noah with all his might. He then shouted “Yes!” as his answer to Noah’s proposal.
Everyone applauded. When Noah was finally able to put the ring on Fran’s finger, Fran’s parents walked up to them and gave the two a warm hug.
Fran heard from his parents about how everyone invited to his party knew that Noah was going to propose to him. Noah talked to Fran’s parents first weeks prior his proposal. Noah even talked to Fran’s grandma regarding his plans.
Fran fell in love with Noah all over again. His man was not only very thoughtful and loving; Noah also had a huge respect for Fran’s family.
“I know we are all happy about the proposal.” Noah announced after some time. “But, can I ask for a moment to kiss my fiancé? Please, I am begging everyone!“
The people who were surrounding Fran and Noah immediately left them. Fran grinned at his boyfriend—now, fiancé. Ah, he loved this man so much. He was blessed to have Noah in his life.
“I love you, my fiancé.” Fran hooked his arms on Noah.
“Can you just call me husband?“ Noah gave him a naughty look.
“How about I call you mine?“ Fran answered teasingly.
Noah looked pleased. “That’s perfect. I love you.”
In the midst of everyone’s cheers, Fran and Noah finally kissed.
Everyone was overjoyed to see the newly engaged couple looked genuinely happy in each other’s arms.
They all shouted: “Congratulations and best wishes, Noah and Fran!“
