When Bai Tang opened his eyes in the morning, he was alone. He rolled over, burying his face in the cool sheets and reached out to caress them. Only if his fragrance was identical to the alpha’s would he feel happy.

Bai Tang stopped what he was doing and entered the kitchen when the hour hand struck ten. It took around 30 minutes to make a sticky mixture of milk, eggs, sugar, high-gluten flour and tapioca flour. He then poured it on a baking pan and cooked it for 20 minutes at 160°F.
He followed with stir-fried veggies, steaming pork ribs with bean drum, scrambled eggs with shredded carrots and fried pork slices with king oyster mushrooms and choy sum topped with soy sauce. Three times during the cooking process he shifted the mochi, and at the end the mochi inside the oven had expanded into little buns. Its texture was quite chewy.
Heitang inhaled the scent and twirled around eagerly. Bai Tang ripped a mochi in half, chilled it, tossed it into Heitang’s mouth, and ate the other half by himself. It was delicious!
He gave Heitang a thumbs up, he took out a four-layer insulated lunch box as he chewed, loaded it with vegetables and rice layer by layer, and then took out a second insulated lunch box and filled it with soup. Finally, the third lunch box contained three whole plates of mochi.
He left the house with three enormous lunch boxes.
Jiang Yunshu said that he would join the director in the operating room at 8:30 am for a study session that would last until 12:30 pm.

Bai Tang raised his head in greeting. It was two nurses whom he’d never met. When they noticed him turning to stare, one pushed the other and asked in a gossipy tone, “Are you Dr. Jiang’s omega?”
The question was too abrupt and unexpected. Bai Tang subconsciously let out a hum. He wasn’t sure if he was; if he was, he wasn’t sure if he should acknowledge it; if he did, he wasn’t sure if it would cause trouble for Jiang Yunshu.

Bai Tang’s eyes were full of distress. His nose was burning, and he had to wrinkle it numerous times before he could hold back the tears. He wished he could console him but Bai Tang felt powerless. He felt like giving that alpha, who appeared to be vulnerable right now, a big embrace.
All he wanted to do was hug Jiang Yunshu.
“No matter how much I gave them, I couldn’t reap their rewards,” Jiang Yunshu said calmly. “I gave up, only to discover that their expectations of me were etched in my bones, and I couldn’t get rid of them.”

Although he had been betrayed, let down, and hurt, Jiang Yunshu was worth it. He was deserving of his leaving his past behind, overcoming the endless creeping fear, overcoming the darkness, and most of all, his unconditional love.
As long as Jiang Yunshu liked him even a little bit, he would give everything.
Just a little bit is all it takes.
Bai Tang cried as he said, “Then come and like me. This time, you will get a lot in return.”
