Characters

Wu Rong (our MC): has a Yin constitution because he was dead before (dead people are heavy on Yin Qi/energy). Yet other reborn people don’t have that, why is that?

Fu Qing (ML?): taoist priest that was lost by the Fu Family. Genius in talismans and swormanship. Has an odd interest in MC.

Basic characters

Xu An: ex-boyfriend of Wu Rong, was killed by Resentful Ghost Wu Rong and reborn in current timeline. First appeareance of a reborn person.

Lin Wenwen: normal timeline was the daughter of a important person. ghost recovery timeline, daughter of an important teacher in Tianda University (most important school for Celestial Masters).

Grandmaster Fu: fought the White Bone Ghost King.

Wu Rao: Wu Rong’s great aunt, fought the evil miao and was in the frontline with the powerhouses of Grandmaster Fu’s generation.

Big Ghost: unknown identity, died of lingchi, unable to communicate with Wu Rong as he has his 5 senses locked. Extremely strong, capable of resisting the Heavenly Thunder.

Zhou Xun: special police officer, has one of the strongest ghosts, money ghost sore. Son of Police Director Zhou

Miaojiang Village Arc

Ge Lang: one of the brothers contending for Stronghold Master position in the Evil Miao.

Bai Gu: powerful sorcerer from Wu’s Miao Village. He’s a reincarnated person that died in the hands of Wu Rong

Grandma Wu: Wu Rong’s grandma, substitute leader after her sister (Wu Rao) died

Aredo: feisty girl that does not like Wu Rong

Ai Qiao: Older sister, badass woman from Dong culture. She has a bridge spirit that she gives offerings to.

White Cat: being born from nature after the Ghost Recovery. Fond of eating spiritual animals/yin.

Highway No.9

(Black)Dog Ghost King: dog that was the loyal companion of Ghost King Wu Rong. Has the size of a lion but can shrink itself.

Huang Mao: Wu Rong’s brother. Also a follower of Ghost King Wu Rong in the Ghost Timeline (Mourning Ghost)

Liu Hu: Liu Bao’s younger brother. Current master of Black dog. Has a deal with Hui Xin(fox spirit).

Liu Bao: older brother, is the leader of Wu Rong’s gang. Got rich with the deal made with Hui Xin and wants Wu Ron’s loyalty.

Tiankeng No. 444

Master Kuchan: Powerful Buddhist master, was a kid in the early days of the Ghost Recovery and when White Bone Ghost King died.

Hui Xin: Master Kuchan’s disciple.

Master Ling Yun: a master from Longshu Mountain. Has great predictive abilities.

Chi Fangfang: ghost born from bloody mud in the days before the Ghost Recovery. She was a normal high school girl before she died.

Kang Jianbai: a mole from the Police. He entered the Tiankeng to deal with Liu Hu.

Wu Rong’s Gang

Hongxiu: crazy woman ghost obssessed with Wu Rong

Su Xiaomi: boy with a powerful brother sealed by ghost scripts.

Dawn Star: ghost from the Europe Union, currently alive as Inspector Angus from Saint Joelman’s Cathedral

Bai Mei (Daytime Empress): has a special physique of Angels and Demons, when alive can repress Ghosts, when dead, can act as a buffer for ghosts

Zhou Jin: son of Zhou Xinhong and Bai Mei, has the same physique as his mother

Zhou Xinhong: master of the Zhou Family, rich af

Secret Lotus Congregation: a religious group that is extremely strong in Jieyang, has divisions like the Red Lotus, Blue Lotus, etc

Dharma King Fei (Fei Chen): leader of one of the lotus divisions, very strong

Old Man Ku (iron monk): monk that challenged Hui Xin to a religious duel

Saint Vivian: one of the 9 heroes that sacrificed themselves to seal the Great Tiankeng (currently known 3, WR’s grandaunt, Sima Gyatso and Saint Vivian)

Timelines

1st timeline: Normal word, Wu Rong dies after a car accident indirectly caused by Xu An.

2nd timeline (Ghost Timeline): Supernatural Recovery occurs, Wu Rong is an ordinary person and has no notable abilities. Dies by being pushed by Xu An. Becomes a resentful ghost and kills Xu An, proceeds to get a dog and become a ghost king

3rd timeline (current one): Important characters from 2nd timeline are ‘reborn’ into their old bodies. Wu Rong (1st timeline) is reborn.

Worldbuilding

Ghost raisers: similar to special police, works with the government and raise either wild ghosts (captured from ghost domains) or nurture ghosts (example )

Celestial masters/Tianshi: went through education in a ‘school’ (Buddhism/Taoism/etc). According to each school there are different weapons/talismans/spiritual items. Longhu Mountain is the strongest school so far.

The negative aura in the ghost domain will subtly distort the souls of ordinary people, making them degenerate into ghosts after death, thus increasing the number of ghosts in the world. Therefore, there are ghost raisers or celestial masters sent by the public security to guard every train that crosses ghost domains.

The ghost territory formed by Level C evil spirits could cover a city, the influence of Level B ghost can spread to a province, and further up if it was an A-level ghost general. The legendary S-rank ghost king had an cover ability even more terrifying and unimaginable.

Tiankengs

15th day of the seventh month, 2048, lunar calendar: Ghost Gate opened,
Seven consecutive Tiankengs appeared. With that, the Ghost Recovery began.
Ghosts and spirits are now daily occurrences.
The early days were full of death, with humankind being oppressed by ghosts.
Now, humans are somewhat evenly matched with ghosts and otherworldly beings.

The tiankeng is different from the literal meaning. It is not a pit, but more like a space shrouded in yin and resentment and full of distorted force fields. When the supernatural recovery broke out, not only the seven great tiankengs appeared all over the world, but also countless medium-sized and small tiankengs emerged, some of which were in the safe zone and some of which were in the ghost domain. Until now, the cause of the tiankeng is still a mystery. The only thing that could be confirmed is that every tiankeng, no matter how big or small, is almost in the area where supernatural events first appeared in the early stage of the spiritual recovery.

Up to now, 2142, nearly 100 years have passed since the Tiankegs appeared. Although half of the world’s regions have become ghost lands and have not been recovered, the human security zone had basically stabilized and new rules and systems had been established. In the process of fighting against the ghost waves, when the fate of mankind was still alive and dying, the national boundaries became blurred. Many neighboring countries fought together as one. After the war, the original countries don’t exist anymore, leaving only four major alliances – the Asian Union, the European Union, the American Union and the African Union.

The supernatural events that happened at that time will keep repeating in the Tiankeng

100% of people who die in Tiankengs will also become ghosts, evil spirits who are thirsty for blood and fond of killing.

Great Tiankengs: the seven great tiankengs that initiated the Ghost Recovery Miracle

Small/medium Tiankengs: other tiankengs

444 Tiankeng began in 2045, therefore it was created in the beginning stage of the miracle and it is quite weak.

Most of the old tiankengs born in the early stage of spiritual recovery are assigned to the level of evil ghosts (C-level ghosts)

Tiankengs mentioned so far:

444 Tiankeng, Hong Kong Island ghost house event, the Disney amusement park clown event, the Munich ghost cathedral event, the ghost knocking on the door event, the ghost phone event, and so on.

Organizations

Ghost Keeper Bureau: affiliated with the government, equivalent of police force.

Freelancers Association: non-affiliated with the government, equivalent of a mercenary group.

Witch Society: group composed of powerful reborn people that knew Ghost King Wu Rong.

Secret Lotus Congregation: a religious group that is extremely strong in Jieyang, has divisions like the Red Lotus, Blue Lotus, etc

Gu and Miaojiang

Gu: Mysterious object that has been artificially cultivated in a special way for many years. It can be large or small, and it is generally an animal. Animals are usually two in a pair, but there are very few types that are plants.

On the Origin and Symptoms of Various Diseases: Gu Poison Symptoms: “Take more insects and snakes, store them in containers, and let them eat each other. Only one thing should remain, that is, it is called Gu.”

In MIAOJIANG’s case, the Gu get stronger according to what you feed it. The spider eats poisonous insects, the Zhong Gu eats the purest yin and the snake eats yin.

Conceptual Definition of “Miaojiang” (a Baidu research)

In the context of martial arts novels, the so-called “Miaojiang” can be understood in three ways.

1. It refers to all the areas inhabited by “Miao” and “Miao barbarians”; it can be roughly understood as the inland area in the south of present-day Zhejiang Province, the north-central area of Jiangxi Province, the south of Hubei Province, most of Hunan Province, most of Guizhou Province, the east-central area of Sichuan Province, Yunnan Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guizhou-Sichuan adjacent areas.
2. Refers to the main area where “Miao people” live, which can be roughly understood as Hunan, the southern part of Hubei, Guizhou and the adjacent areas of Sichuan, Guangxi and Yunnan.
3. From the perspective of “storytelling” in martial arts novels, it can also be understood as the settlement of the remote mountainous areas south of the Yangtze and Han rivers, where the witch(Wu) and ghost culture is revered.

The above “3” is a more “accurate” definition from the perspective of martial arts novels. That is: Miaojiang is not Miaojiang, the geographical details are secondary, the key feature is to advocate witchcraft(as in, practicing gu arts, breeding gu).
