Wen ZhiChu opened his eyes in a daze. The sky outside was already blindingly bright. Feeling a source of warmth pressed against him, he raised his head blankly and took a glance. Immediately, he met Qin JiaShu’s eyes.
“Awake?”
The events that happened yesterday night were still vivid in his mind. Wen ZhiChu instantly felt his vision turn black and his face burn terribly. Turning his head, he stopped meeting Qin JiaShu’s eyes: “En.”
“Hungry?”
“Not…not yet.”
Looking at Qin JiaShu’s distinctively jointed fingers and recalling the scene from last night, for a second, Wen ZhiChu couldn’t look at them directly.
The one-person bed at home was not large, but Wen ZhiChu fit perfectly when he slept on it alone. Qin JiaShu’s size and bone frame were both larger than him, completely incompatible with this one-person bed.
Perhaps also afraid of falling off, the entire night, Qin JiaShu slept holding Wen ZhiChu on top of his body.
Skin pressing and rubbing against each other, Wen ZhiChu felt like his heart might jump out of his chest if they continued to stay like this. Hastily, he sat up, wanting to find clothes to wear.
Qin JiaShu didn’t stop him either and only turned his head to look at the other with interest.
His gaze traveled from the back of Wen ZhiChu’s fair white neck to his back and shoulders, then downwards towards the roundness that sat on the sheets.
Both of their clothes from yesterday were left in the bathroom. If Wen ZhiChu wanted to wear clothes right now, he could only grab them from the wardrobe. Although it wasn’t far, he still needed to walk 4-5 steps.
Feeling the line of sight behind his back, Wen ZhiChu didn’t know how to move for a second. He turned his head to look. The gaze didn’t falter and continued to gaze at him brazenly.
With a red face, Wen ZhiChu: “You… you turn around first.”
Qin JiaShu didn’t answer and pretended to turn his head. Wen ZhiChu finally let out a breath of relief and got up to find clothes to wear.
Because he was somewhat nervous, when he opened the wardrobe, he was just like a groundhog rummaging through its nest. In a flurry, he found clothes and threw them on himself.
After all this was done, he turned around, only to finally discover the gaze still staring unblinkingly at him.
Wen ZhiChu felt embarrassed for a moment: “You…you……”
Unable to win a fight, and verbally clumsy at cursing.
In the end, Wen ZhiChu charged towards the bed in anger and leaped upwards like a flying piglet to pounce on top of Qin JiaShu.
“Pfft…..”
Perhaps because this move was really pretty comical, Wen ZhiChu couldn’t hold back either. The two instantly fell over each other in laughter.
Qin JiaShu held Wen ZhiChu in his arms, a handsome and unadulterated smile on his face, completely opposite of the mask that he wore in the past.
He was born good-looking, capable of drawing attention within the crowd with just one glance. To see such rare countenance, for a moment, Wen ZhiChu became somewhat bewitched at the sight. He pressed his soft red lips together and then couldn’t hold back from leaving a smooch on the other’s face.
For once, a look of surprise appeared on Qin JiaShu’s face.
Wen ZhiChu stammered: “Just… just a quick kiss.”
The corners of Qin JiaShu’s mouth curved into a smile: “Whatever you want.”

Today was New Year’s Day. Qin JiaShu stayed with Wen ZhiChu until 7pm at night before leaving. The next day, he still needed to go to school, so he had to return home to change clothes.

For a second, Mama Qin didn’t know how to continue this conversation with her eldest son. The mother and son have always been like this, forever without anything to speak about, talking and behaving very courteously towards each other.
Not giving a child the proper companionship in their childhood meant that despite compensating for it when they’re older, intimacy was impossible.
Mama Qin contemplated for a long time, afraid of saying the wrong words like she had during her last conversation with Qin JiaShu: “JiaShu, you didn’t eat yet right? Today, your dad waited specifically for you to return to start the meal. XiaoHe has been asking for you the entire day now.”
Qin JiaShu didn’t refuse. The mother and son walked into the dining room. Qin Papa was originally playing with their younger son. Upon seeing Qin JiaShu return, his expression fell.
“So you actually know to return.”
Mama Qin’s expression turned unsightly: “What are you saying!”
“Running around outside during New Year’s instead of being at home, why aren’t you giving a talk with your good son.”
“Enough.” Mama Qin looked at Papa Qin with a dissatisfied look in her eyes.
Papa Qin didn’t say any more. Mama Qin went to the kitchen to check the soup she was simmering. Along the way, she helped the servants set the plates.
Seeing his big brother return, Qin JiaHe moved closer eagerly.
Seeing his eldest son, Papa Qin also felt somewhat remorseful for his words just now, but he didn’t lower his head. His eldest son was great in all aspects, except being intimate with them.
Looking at the two brothers, he felt consoled however and wanted to find a conversation topic to dispel the awkward stiffness: “What did you do yesterday?”
Mama Qin was still in the kitchen watching the fire. The next second, she heard a loud sound outside.
There was a clamor of chaos.
“Sir!!”
“Sir, don’t do it!”
“Gege! Papa, no, you can’t!! Ahhhhh!”
Hearing the sound, Mama Qin walked out quickly. She saw the dining room in complete disarray. Qin JiaHe sat in the baby high chair, crying nonstop, hand outstretched and reaching for Qin JiaShu.
Papa Qin was held back by several servants, outraged: “You absolute disgrace!”
Qin JiaShu’s expression was terrifyingly dark. He told a servant to carry Qin JiaHe away. The little guy was so scared, he kicked his legs nonstop. Only when the nanny came over, did she finally carry him into his room after a struggle.
Mama Qin didn’t expect this kind of scene to occur and also became angry. Walking to her husband in 2-3 steps: “What are you doing?!”
“What am I doing? Why don’t you ask him what he did!” Papa Qin pointed at Qin JiaShu in fury: “Do you know why he didn’t return home last night? He he fucking went to engage in homosexuality!!”
An astonished expression also appeared on Mama Qin’s face. For a second, she couldn’t say anything.
As adults, they pretty much all knew about these things, but most assumed it was just the youngsters playing around.
Qin JiaShu stood over there without saying a single word of retort.
Mama Qin hastily walked next to Qin JiaShu: “JiaShu, you tell your father that you were just out playing around.”
Qin JiaShu didn’t speak.
For a moment, Mama Qin was so panicked she didn’t know what to do.
“Say something.”
“We are together sincerely.”
“Very good!” Papa Qin’s eyes turned red with anger: “Qin JiaShu, very good you. Why didn’t I know that you had this side of you.”
With fearless eyes, Qin JiaShu stood there, firm and straight.
Seeing Qin JiaShu’s cold and distant look, Papa Qin exploded even more: “You’re always like this. What exactly do you want?!! Your mom and I have decreased our work since you were in middle school, wanting to return to make it up to you. Why are you always like this? What exactly do you want!”
Qin JiaShu clenched his hands into fists. His eyes were brimming with vicious light. Seeing this, Mama Qin hastily went to stop him, but she couldn’t hold him back at all.
“Make it up to me?” Qin JiaShu walked in front of Papa Qin and looked down at him condescendingly. His eyes were like a wild beast exposing its fangs: “Then why was Qin JiaHe born?”
For a second, the married couple couldn’t believe what they just heard.
“Are you guys trying to compensate me?” Voice cold and desolate, Qin JiaShu looked at Papa Qin and said one word at a time: “You guys are only making reparations for yourselves!”
Papa Qin: “You……”
“You guys knew that you encountered failure with me. That’s why you’d be so impatient to give birth to Qin JiaHe, to fill in the loss and pretend that nothing happened at all.”
Papa Qin wanted to refute, but he was so angry he couldn’t speak.
“Why didn’t you call home?”
Papa Qin froze.
Qin JiaShu looked at his so-called father: “Was number 1 that important?”
Papa Qin’s hand shook somewhat. They had only learned of the home tutor’s vile conduct after Qin JiaShu graduated from elementary school.
Qin JiaShu stared at them unblinkingly: “Was being outstanding a necessary requirement for that to be possible?”
“Why didn’t I have parents to pick me up?”
Mama Qin suppressed her tears: “JiaShu……”
Papa Qin felt ashamed internally, but he also didn’t want to lose his dignity and authority as a father: “Aren’t we making it up……”
“Did you ever ask me?”
Papa Qin was stunned.
“I don’t know what you guys are trying to compensate. In my eyes, none of those things are needed.”
Papa Qin looked at the big and towering son in front of him, expression somewhat dazed.
The bundled infant in his memories has already grown to be taller than him now.
After saying those words, Qin JiaShu turned and went. Originally, he wanted to leave the house, but in the end he was stopped by a crying and pleading Mama Qin.
Papa Qin collapsed powerlessly into the chair and ordered a servant to bring over his cellphone. He flipped through Qin JiaShu’s childhood photos again and again.
From his birth to middle school, these were sent over to him by the nanny and home tutor. He has always saved them.
However, flipping through them once again and looking at his son’s smiling face there, Papa Qin finally felt the irony.
In his life, he had a successful career, a blissful marriage, and garnered admiration from everyone. Everything seemed to go very smoothly and successfully. He thought so as well.
Until Qin JiaShu’s birth. This was his first child. Despite being delighted, he didn’t want to put his career on hold. How could a man be distracted by family trifles? At the same time, he didn’t want his wife to give up on her dreams either, so he encouraged her to remain unrestricted.
But ended up treating Qin JiaShu carelessly, in this one matter alone.
He thought it was enough to be more careful and show some concern, and it’d be fine. Yet reality was completely the contrary. He had completely failed as a father.
He didn’t want to admit, he has lived his entire life smooth sailing and has never bowed his head to anyone for letting them down. He was successful in everything and everyone fawned over him, but only in being a father, he had met failure— failure as Qin JiaShu’s father.
If his life was a perfectly smooth wall, then Qin JiaShu was the crack that appeared there.
Actually, everything that Qin JiaShu said was correct. He wasn’t trying to make up for his son’s lack of companionship, but rather compensating himself. This way he can become a successful father again.
Papa Qin looked remorseful at Qin JiaShu’s childhood pictures, for a second, eyes red.
It’s only now that he started to doubt himself. Did he really treat his child fairly, treat Qin JiaShu responsibly?
Later at night, Mama Qin opened the study door and walked inside. Seeing her eyes red from crying, Papa Qin couldn’t help but feel his heart ache for her.
“How old are you now, still crying like a 20 year old little girl. Aren’t you embarrassed?”
Mama Qin knew that he was an indirect person and pulled him to sit on the sofa. She wanted to say something but in the end turned her words into a sigh.
The married couple looked at each other speechless.
Mama Qin held Papa Qin’s hands. After a while, she finally said: “Just let him be.”
Papa Qin didn’t say anything.
Mama Qin looked at him: “JiaShu has always been a good child. We’re the ones who let him down.”
“I have always been very proud, marrying a capable and ambitious husband, who also supports me. Not to mention I have two smart and cute kids. You’ve also treated me devotedly and with consideration. I’ve never had to deal with troublesome matters. When I go out and gather with the ladies of other families, there’s none who doesn’t envy me.”
“But… but I’ve been incapable of forgetting this entire time, forgetting what happened during JiaShu’s childhood. We’re the ones who failed him. I let him down.”
Papa Qin embraced his wife in his arms. Mama Qin sobbed, tears pouring downwards continuously: “JiaShu has always been a good child. He wouldn’t do anything wrong. He must really like that child to be together with him. No one knows his personality better than us.”
Qin JiaShu has never done anything that he regrets. Papa Qin understood this better than anyone.
Mama Qin sobbed: “We didn’t fulfill our responsibilities when JiaShu was young. Right now, we also don’t have the right…. We’re the ones who let that child down.”
The study fell into silence. After a long time came a heavy sigh.
“Let him be.”
So they’re not too bad after all~
The best decision they could make, was to accept that Qin Jiashu is dating a man, and not interfere in this matter. I think, you misunderstood them a little – they didn’t say, that he can do whatever and they no longer care. They simply decided not to make a fuss about his boyfriend. Mostly because they are aware that Qin Jiashu must really like him. That’s all.
As for making amends, i’m sure that it’s going to happen soon. The first step is realising that you did something wrong, and accepting it. Which they did.
Now, i’m not saying that they are great people. They really messed up, and couldn’t properly correct their wrongdoings. But, they never did this with the intention of harming Qin Jiashu, and they still don’t want to cause him more problems. They just made a lot of mistakes, that unfortunately had a big impact on Qin Jiashu. If they were truly bad people, they wouldn’t care about how they failed Qin Jiashu, and they most certainly would not decide to let him keep his boyfriend so quickly, when at first they were clearly upset about it.
Hopefully, they will actually put in maximum effort into cultivating a good relationship with their son from now on, even if an affectionate parent-child relationship is no longer possible.
“No one knows his personality better then us.” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh man, these people have only discovered the tip of the iceberg when it comes to their failures. If they knew their son half as well as they thought they did they’d be weak with relief at the news that he’d decided to dedicate his time to pursuing a relationship with a fairly normal person.
Bro that line made me take a step back cuz like, you weren’t there for half his childhood, and barely even interacted with him? What are they on?? 😭
The other line that I had to stop and laugh at was the “Not giving a
child the proper companionship in their childhood meant that despite
compensating for it when they’re older, intimacy was impossible.” Like,
Huh? What compensation? Compensating would be showering him with love to
make up for the neglect they put him through. Instead all these two did
was expect their son get over himself and be a happy family because
they decided to grace him with their presence. They’ve done nothing and
then got mad that he hasn’t been the one to make an effort to fix the
relationship.
Right? Smh 😞
“He didn’t want to lose his dignity as a father” As if you didn’t lose it the moment you prioritized work and being “successful” over him, and prioritized being number one versus effort. Your pictures weren’t even taken yourself, the nanny and vile tutor having taken them; you still expect to be respected as a father and wonder why your son acts like this?
So proud they’re incapable of admitting they were wrong and saying sorry. These moments where we see his family life are so heartbreaking. Imagine growing up knowing that your parents didn’t love you enough to put you first in their life, and now they have a replacement child because that’s better than saying I was wrong, I’m sorry.
So glad that he finally confronted his parents tbh…

Thank you for the update ❤️💯
Thanks for the chapter!
Thank you for the updates😍
This chapter conveyed the emotions really well🥺
The way they’re comforting themselves instead of sincerely apologising to Qin Jiashu
I’m speechless-
Self awareness isn’t accountability.
Feeling guilty isn’t owning up to your mistakes.
You still do nothing but feel sorry about yourselves.
These parents ducking suck.
I can’t feel sad for Qin Parents, because they did terrible and very selfishly as a parents… Poor QJS :<
Thank You for the new chapter (∩˃w˂∩)♡
Like i said before…. Try better!! It’s not tol late to even make it up again to qin jiashu if you just put your stinking pride and ego behind you!! Chuchu is all he needs indeed 😤
💖💖💖💖
i teared up
Not how to parent…or love…or be human…such role modeling… Thanks for the update ❤️❤️❤️
😯😯😯
Hmmm… Something’s missing…. Maybe a sorry… A hug… A loving kiss on your son’s forehead…. Hmmm….
Anyways, I’m proud my boy came out to his parents. He won’t have to hide or anything.
Ijbol!! Like what? That’s how you, as parents, ends this matter? A sigh of “let him be”? Are they for real? Where is the responsibility of communicating to smooth out the relationship and try mending it if they’re so concerned about their eldest son?! Shying away from their careless and selfish action by just letting it be? At least now that they’ve learnt how he feels, why not show some effort? There is no pill for regret but can’t they just, at least try a little bit? How disappointing!
Tak terasa air mataku mengalir saat membaca chapter ini.. sial pantas saja, ternyata ini mirip dengan kisahku
“No one knows his personality better then us.” ……..okay
The parents are on drugs or what?
They think they know him? Him? They sure think they do…
Okay lol, they’re typical asian parents, playing the victim, crying, as if they’re doing him a big ass favor by letting him date who he wants because they didn’t love him enough. Does that mean that if they treated him well with enough love and care, they’d have the right to refuse his right to love who he wants to? Is this compensation? Honestly, good description of what Asian kids struggle with.
thanks for the chapter!
so the parents finally get a reality check like a 100 tone slap across the face.
still don’t like them. not just after that one conversation
i hate family issues… i feel like 90% of problems stem from family, why is that when they’re supposed to be “the closest” to you in the world? it’s just rubbish…
Thank you for the chapter.
