In ancient Southern India, during the 5th century, there existed three main clans. These three major clans were known as the Cheras, the Cholas and the Pandyas;  All three renowned for their phenomenal might and remarkable achievements.  But there was also another noteworthy clan —  the Pallava clan, a clan of scholars who emigrated from Andhra Pradesh to Tamilnadu. In the early days, Pallavas were shown to demonstrate extreme intelligence. This intelligence allowed them to aid a tremendous amount of help to the many Kings of Southern India bring prosperity to them all. Unfortunately, as time went by, the sin of greed struck the Pallavas, causing them to go power hungry and capture Kanchi, this retaliation eventually led to the overthrowing of the Cholas clan.

The Cholas were known for their notoriety so although everyone descended from the tribes, the barbaric characteristics of the Cholas were still noteworthy. Yet surprisingly or not, the Cholas’ were not primarily known for their barbaric attributes alone, but for their kind and caring nature, even if this trait was only limited  towards their people.

The Cholas’, unfortunately, had a notorious history for robbing neighbouring kingdoms of their land, valuables, gods and even citizens. It was precisely because of this dirty history of theirs that when they were met with such misfortune, they were refused aid from all sides.

In the 7th century, the rise of an ongoing feud between the imperial Pallava and Pandya clans reached a peak. This moment of vulnerability from both sides granted an opening for the Cholas, who had been driven out of their land for nearly two centuries, to strike back.   Patiently, they waited for the opportune moment before ruthlessly ambushing both sides by surprise. This led both the Pallavas and Pandyas to suffer tremendous losses at the hands of their vengeful enemies.

Viravarman, courtesy name Viramalla, the eldest son of the king, was appointed as the crown prince at the age of 5. Following the footsteps of his ancestor, he too was a great scholar. He was taught sword fighting, literature, painting, philosophy, archery and many more. Even the talent of the tongue was gifted to him. There wasn’t a skill he could not master.

From a young age, he was placed under a lot of pressure as the crown prince. He was taught that it was his responsibility to fight for his people and when necessary, to even sacrifice his own life for them. This greatly impacted his personality. His childhood was filled with constant practises and learning to hone his skills.

The countless injuries he sustained in matches taught him to hide his vulnerabilities and feign his emotions through wearing a stoic face. Even if experiencing agonising pain one would not be able to tell even if they were to look at his face., not even his parents could tell the difference. This gradually became a habit for Viramalla.

He cared for everyone around him but was embarrassed to say it out loud. This led to him being discredited by his siblings but he didn’t care. All he ever wanted was for his people to be safe and sound. He wished for their happiness, not their praises. Even under the harshest circumstances, the prince always stuck to his morals. Due to being chosen as a crown prince at a young age, Viramalla always suffered from loneliness.

So although the passionate person he was, he was unable to communicate his misgivings and it was because of this, many only thought of him as the cold and heartless prince.

Being told by his father to go to China to request for their aid, Viramalla naturally didn’t refuse. What he didn’t know was that this journey ahead would not only paint his lonely life full of colours but also bring out the true nature of his so-called relations.

Viramalla, his second youngest brother Simha, general Danti and their convoy of fifty soldiers quickly prepared for the trip. They were sent off by a crowd of hopeful people. Before leaving, Viramalla’s parents called him one last time.

“Vira, promise me you will never forsake our people. Remember,  all our people are counting on you. Mother will be awaiting your good news”, said the empress with tear-stained eyes. “Our troubles will be solved by you. Take care of your second brother. Keep him safe.”

  eshl0S

“Son, you should always put our people before yourself. Never forget your duties. As I have taught you, always protect your people, even at the cost of your life. So you should know how important this trip is. The future hope of our kingdom rests in your hands”, his father continued after his mother in a solemn voice.

The Pallava King didn’t have any concubines, he loved his wife dearly. Based on this, one would assume the relationship between his parents and him would be close but that was not the case. His parents believed that spoiling would lead to arrogance, hence, they were very strict with him. They believed that a future king should not have any vulnerabilities so they never expressed their affections towards him. Viramalla would never tell anyone when he was in pain and his parents did not care either so gradually, they grew distant. Ironically, the King and Queen were more affectionate with his siblings who knew how to please them.

Even when he was going to another country, his parent’s only concern was about their people and his brother’s safety. Not a single word of goodwill was spoken for him. Viramalla e felt pained in his heart, but he told himself that this was nothing and to stop worrying. He was already numb to it all.

Viramalla also loved his siblings but he never outwardly expressed his contentment. He was always there, secretly helping his siblings in the shadows. There were times when his siblings did know that he had helped them but they would decide to turn a blind eye to it. They took it for granted and thought that since he was already appointed as the crown prince, he should be compensating them anyway. They portrayed themselves as loving and kind but who knows what’s truly hiding inside their vicious hearts.

After all the formalities, the Pallavas boarded their ship.

  1. Very promising start, excited to see how this ice cube thaws. 🙂

There appears to be an upload error where many of the spaces after [.] periods and [,] commas have been deleted. Hopefully there’s an easy fix!

  2. Getting excited for the next chapter… Vira has a cute personality 😋😋 Just want to roll him into a ball and gnaw on him🙈😽

  3. Ah, I already hate the parents and brothers…I wish it’s gets happier later on T-T.

    Thanks for the update! ❤❤❤

  4. Viramalla deserves all the love he can get!! That family of his is disgusting… I bet that beloved brother is going to try something.

It seems really Interesting, count me in for this ride!

    Thanks for the chapter!

  5. Argh, they made him t he crown prince just to have him but everyone before himself? Then whats the point of the emperor? eye roll

    Thanks for the start <3

  6. oh? This looks like a good story! though i dont like angst but i feel like l can roll with it in this one. Im looking forward to the journey!!! Nice beginning of the chapter and writing style by the way. Ive been hungry looking for ancient bl stories so thank you~! from the looks of it in the synopsis this seems kind of dark with the yandere tag and the MLs calculative and manipulative personality you can infer in the synopsis but I guess he’ll be super sweet, not be sadistic and will not hurt the MC physically and all I hope? but since its a mutual affection i guess it wont turn to a little blackroom cagement play but regarding the families insidiousness it may evolve to a dog blood drama there seems to be a drama tag but i can see that the MC isnt foolish, and is rational, has clear view on things and more importantly is kind. the MC even if he makes decisions one sidedly on the basis for the other’s sake like stay away from him for his sake that kind of fuking shit will probably not be like that because of the MLs personality his yandereness assertiveness and calculation. so i can be at ease and can expect a happy and satisfying and not stuffy in the chest ending right?!!! sorry for the rant tehee~! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
    • Thank you for your comment. The angst in the novel is mild. As for ML you will love him . And for drama if it’s all too smooth, it’ll be plain. So yeah! A little drama but not too much. And don’t worry this one is HE.😁

  7. This is seriously so good. Can’t wait to read more!! Author san, fighting!!😁
