The Emperor’s Favorite Imperial Concubine is an OCh20 - Recommendation

Unbeknownst to many, Wen Mingyu had been in the palace for more than six months. The passage of time appears to be as quick as the twinkling of an eye.

Nevertheless, Wen Mingyu considered himself to have led a very fruitful and satisfactory life. eQluXt

His classes have long included all of the obligatory courses not only confined to paleography. Gong Xue recognized his substantial talent and his determination to excel, so he directly addressed it to Mu Zhan. However, all he said was that the professors of other courses had been appointed, implying that Mu Zhan had also initially thought of it.

The six compulsory courses that students must master are: rites, music, shooting, riding, calligraphy, and numeracy, and the six arts are: etiquette, music and dance, archery, horsemanship, reading and writing, and arithmetic.

Wen Mingyu was already a senior student before crossing over. His teacher praised several of his foundations, notably mathematics, and the simple and convenient mathematical approaches he utilized will be reviewed in return. But then again, Wen Mingyu was a person from thousands of years later, in the interstellar era. Some information was borne on the shoulders of giants, and Wen Mingyu naturally has advantages after numerous years of advancements, evolution, merging, and enhancements.

In addition to the lessons, Mu Zhan issued an order allowing Wen Mingyu unlimited access to his private library, which featured a variety of rich and valuable collections, as well as extant manuscripts. He may take them outside the private library whenever he likes, and there will be no question asked at all. jYFRSt

As a result, when many of his teachers who taught him walked into his study and witnessed stacks of unpublished works worth a couple of towns, heaped up like big Chinese cabbages given for free, they immediately froze and nearly suffocated from the soreness.

Wen Mingyu had goosebumps from the hungry gazes of his teachers. Their eyes were so eager that he couldn’t turn a blind eye. However, these manuscripts were Mu Zhan’s, and he was unable to make the call. After some trepidation, he attempted to ask Mu Zhan if he could lend them, promising to keep an eye to ensure there would be no damage to the books.

Mu Zhan gave him a glance and an unforeseen humming tone. He nonchalantly gave him a yes.

This was mentioned by Wen Mingyu in the afternoon.

It was hardly an overstatement to say that the eyes of the scholars shone brightly red, more powerful than an electric bulb, and everyone seemed to be a few years younger with their glowing, ruddy cheeks and hearty looks.

“Is that true? This is alright, isn’t it?”

That’s precisely what he said. In spite of that, his straightforward hands reached out beyond no return.

They truly treasured the books a lot. They, without realizing it, rubbed their hands first on their clothes. Although sensing that it was still wholly useless, they then pulled out a napkin and painstakingly cleaned their hands. Finally, they raised the manuscript with both hands and tenderly turned the pages with quivering fingers; their gazes were fixed on the book, as if they were caressing a precious and rare gem. In such a somber and earnest stance, they nearly took a bath, burnt incense, and kneeled before the manuscripts like fervent followers.

It’s an incredible honor to be able to witness the original work still in existence.

The knowledgeable scholars seemed to loathe to part with it.

Ha! It was only teaching a student, and they were completely unprepared for such a wonderful deed! They made more profit than they thought!

They are all certain that they are fond of Wen Mingyu more!

To demonstrate their affection, the scholars decided to add abundant assignments to Wen Mingyu.

Wen Mingyu: “…” That, once again, is unnecessary. v6oPua

Like an enormous mountain, the teachers’ love is too weighty for him to bear.

Wen Mingyu enjoys reading. Oftentimes, he appeared so enthralled that he forgot to eat, and Mu Zhan would approach with a chilly expression and whisk the person away like how one carries a chicken. One time, he was on the verge of removing Wen Mingyu’s unlimited access pavilion card to the library.

And yet, after all these months, Wen Mingyu’s strongest skill was not reading and computing, nor was it reading a renowned text, but rather his skill of brushing the tyrant’s puffed hair.

Spewing rainbow farts, faking naivety, feigning wrongness plus the unseen petulance. The various methods were employed in circles, and sometimes were a blend of mixed versions. It was almost like hopping on the edge of death back and forth, yet in the end, it was deemed to be a safe pass. Then, gradually, the tyrant’s favorable impression value swooshes up. rN VUB

Mu Zhan had little reaction, but the intense energy surrounding him did reduce, signaling that the method was still working. When it was time to eat, Wen Mingyu would stuff Mu Zhan with his favorite dishes before burying himself in his rice; the mood wasn’t all that horrible.

Mu Zhan’s hand raised and landed on his head. It could be handled at pleasure, considering that Wen Mingyu had not yet reached his crown, his silky jet-black hair was merely secured with a hair band at the rear of his head. Mu Zhan softly brushed his hair, then nipped his nape through it.  He muttered gently, “Don’t upset this one.”

The manner of his speaking was serene and without ripples, but Wen Mingyu had always sensed that his words were lacking, as though there was more to it than just a few words.

If not, this one is a stranger to how things will turn out. s2edC6

The hair on Wen Mingyu’s back stood on end, and he nodded deftly. Thereafter, he proved that he paid attention to his words and seldom lost track of time at the library, and on the contrary, he would go out of his way to search for Mu Zhan for mealtime.

Once Mu Zhan returned from his hectic day, the very first thing he saw was Wen Mingyu seated at the table, waiting for him to eat with him.

The sensation of having company that waits.

He is not on his own. dkNOD2

Wen Mingyu met his eyes and grinned charmingly. His smile was like heart-warming honey that soothes the heart.

Mu Zhan couldn’t refrain from putting his hand on his head and rubbing it a little. He then took his chopsticks and ate leisurely yet meticulously.

Throughout the meal, the two would randomly converse, such as “this dish is yummy,” “there’s a hilarious paragraph in the book I read today,” “the rosebuds are sprouting,” and so on. It was surprisingly homely.

This is an image Zhao Dequan could never envision before. Mu Zhan’s rage has subsided greatly since Wen Mingyu’s arrival at the palace. His previous stomach problems have also improved as a consequence of his increased appetite and regular victual intake. His complexion brightened and the shadow on his brow dissipated. xuapCh

Zhao Dequan is devoted to Mu Zhan. He grows to admire Wen Mingyu more than before as he watches Mu Zhan treat him with extra indulgence and consideration. As long as he sees him, he smiles genuinely and speaks with respect that even the princes and nobles haven’t experienced.

Wen Mingyu followed Mu Zhan to relax for a bit after lunch. He then went ahead to his study to read and prepare for his exams.

No matter where you were, even in ancient times, there was no way to avoid a three-day mid-term exam and a five-day final exam. All types of exams had occurred steadily every day.

He diligently answered the paper and turned it in. The teacher evaluated it and discussed it on the spot. They validated the positive aspects while also pointing out the flaws. The teacher then departed. Wen Mingyu escorted the teacher out and addressed several queries along the walk. f2USE3

“Teacher Gong, Junior brother Wen.”

At a distance, a young man dressed in light green greeted them with a smile. It was one of Gong Xue’s cherished students, Wei Yunlan. He is a few years older than Wen Mingyu and is a student at Imperial College who is already preparing for the imperial examination held in spring the following year.

Gong Xue once forgot to give him a book, so he requested Wen Yunlan to bring it to him. As a result, he introduced Wen Mingyu. Gong Xue chuckled as he rubbed his beard. “You two are my favorite students, more interaction is beneficial.”

Wei Yunlan assisted Gong Xue in correcting Wen Mingyu’s exam paper. He was particularly intrigued by this junior student who had ordinary writing skills but had strong beliefs. After chatting with him, he admired him much more. 5dsrhF

At the present, he was a bit astonished when he overheard the exchange between Wen Mingyu and Gong Xue. “You’ve already learnt the Lin Jing. You’re moving so quickly that you could practically march into Imperial College. If you attend, I’ll officially be your senior brother and we can discuss the lessons after class.”

He admired this excellent junior brother student after their few meetings and was eagerly anticipating his arrival. It is every scholar’s ambition and goal to study at the Imperial College, to participate in the spring examination and the final examination in the imperial palace, and to be in the golden official list of successful candidates. He was certain that Wen Mingyu would attain remarkable outcomes.

Wen Mingyu was caught off guard for a second before turning to face Teacher Gong. “I could be a student at Imperial College?”

Gong Xue did not explicitly nod, but instead squinted his eyes and smiled. “You haven’t taken the provincial examination, but if you are committed to going, I’ll provide you with the exam paper. If you perform well, I can recommend you.” ECxQPj

Wei Yunlan hurriedly winked at Wen Mingyu, signaling him that Teacher Gong’s recommendation was sporadic and that he should take advantage of the situation.

Wen Mingyu, on the other hand, was irresolute. The Imperial College is comparable to a university. As soon as he attends, he must study for years, and Mu Zhan’s consent is just a matter of time. Furthermore, he intends to escape and has begun making arrangements. He might not even be seen next year at all.

For that reason, he couldn’t make a promise at first, and instead simply expressed his gratitude solemnly, “I’m very grateful for your acknowledgement. However, I must return first… to my family to address this matter.”

There was not an ounce of yes from him that Wei Yunlan couldn’t fathom. All over his face was that of despising iron for not turning into steel. With such a big chance, what else can we talk about. Naturally, the family members will allow you to grasp it as soon as possible! This junior brother usually appears to be highly intelligent, but he seems muddleheaded now. srn62P

Wei Yunlan couldn’t stop himself from reaching out and patting his arm. He murmured, “Quick, give him your yes.”

Gong Xue had nearly forgotten, after giving him lessons for so long, that he had taken the imperial edict to teach Wen Mingyu. Wen Mingyu’s relationship with His Majesty remained a mystery. While no concubine announcement had been made in the harem, His Majesty appeared to value him and had provided excellent study resources for him. If not for their age gap, he would have assumed that His Majesty was nurturing a son and training him to be the future crown prince.

And so forth, whether he can attend Imperial College or not is not up to this old man’s will. Besides, if His Majesty so desires, he may arrange for Wen Mingyu to enter the Imperial College, regardless of how awful he reads.

He has no influence over the situation. He can only hope that such a man of tremendous promise is not squandered. 5seuOR

Gong Xue coughed twice on purpose. “I’m not blind. Your small interactions are very visible to my face. As my student’s supervisor, I believe that attending Imperial College is a crucial topic that should be addressed besides the family. This is not an urgent matter; it is preferable to discuss it once the ground has been laid.”

Wei Yunlan took his hand back and stared at Wen Mingyu. He murmured something dull with his lips open.

Wen Mingyu understood that the senior brother was looking out for him. As his heart warmed, he felt amused and was made to chuckle. His lips curved, and he simply shrugged.

The two people’s engagement to each other seems at ease, and their relationship appears to be quite intimate. SR0JI

And they had no idea that all of their actions were witnessed by Mu Zhan from afar.

  1. In my mind, schools are for people who don’t have the option to study at home with breaks to feed, groom and nap with the emperor😉. (Also turning into a bunny at school could be problematic.) Wei Yunlan may be seeing a future scholar who spent some time in the palace, instead of a potential empress who is getting a good education.
