Without a wasted millisecond, the barrier went down. The black flames soared and rushed outward. A white ribbon unraveled from within Seoyun’s sleeve forming the first layer of barrier around herself and Hugo. The heat licked their skins and sweat condensed almost immediately. But Seoyun’s expression was calm. She called upon the harvested power within her body. A golden glow began to shine at the center of her brow, between her eyes. The same holy light wrapped around her fan. With a single twirl, she cut through the brunt of the black flames, extinguishing them and scattering the miasma.

Jayden, undaunted by the flames with the protection of his various enchanted artifacts, used his silver chains to bind the demon’s main body. The silver sizzled against delicate-looking flesh as it bound the prince’s neck and chest. The metallic wasps buzzed forward, diving at the demon with their stingers.

At the same time, Hugo snapped his finger. The two wooden golems thudded forward, joining Jayden in their first line of defense.

The other pounced on her back, but the prince, being more nimble, maneuvered around it and punched straight into the golem with her bare fist with black flames dancing at her feet. Her hand was like a vice grip and pulled him in, a white knee shot up Jayden had barely a chance to react; his chains and free arm coming in to protect his own gut.

By then Seoyun had dispersed the black flames and finally could assist once more, shooting her celestial ribbon out like a flying serpent that sought to bind the prince. The demon raised a beautifully shaped brow and took their vanguard as though he were no more than a doll and threw him at the incoming ribbon. Seoyun redirected the ribbon to wrap around Jayden, cushioning his fall.

Hugo couldn’t help but wear a bitter smile, reaching into his jacket to pull out more totems, five this time, because sorrow demons played well together, even if they were kind of weak compared to wrath and desire ones. Bbofej
