“Song Er.” Zhou Nan shoved Song Xuanhe, voice lowered and a frown on his face. “What are you doing? You trying to wriggle it out of him?”
Song Xuanhe watched Xiao Shenglin’s expression tightly. He whispered back, “I have my reasons. Don’t get involved.”
“No way!” Zhou Nan raised his voice a bit. He observed Xiao Shenglin’s expression. When he saw that the other didn’t react, he lowered his voice again. “Lin zi probably has his reasons for not sharing this with us. You plan on taking advantage of his drunken state to get it out of him?”

I’m not surprised Mother Xiao acted in such way. I haven’t liked her since the first time XYM mentioned her. Especially after he got acknowledged by the family and he still kept his distance from her. Bearing in mind he has memories from his previous life, it must mean she did something to let him down. In which case she can’t be anything good. Especially since one has to bear in mind that, since XYM has grown in an orphanage and most likely craved for a family, he would have tolerated quite a lot from his family as long as they didn’t touch his bottom line.
Add to that the story that XSL just told, mother Xiao is not a good person. I get she doesn’t like someone else’s child as much as she would love her own. I get the she was most definitely frustrated that she had to raise a child who’s not hers just bc the family pushed her to. But said child had absolutely no blame. If she wanted to vent, she should have armed herself with power that she could use to fight against the decision of the family. Punishing a child doesn’t achieve anything. If XSL died, she would have still had to take in another child. Now she’s raising someone who’s probably her husband’s child with another woman. How is that any better than raising XSL?
I also don’t think the reason XSL spoke about the incident was bc he wanted to vent his frustration. He probably wanted to let SXH know what kind of family the Xiao are, and that XYM should be on guard when interacting with his great uncle.
See.. I knew even Mrs Xiao isn’t anything good. There is a reason behind why Mumu estranged from her as compared to Xiao Ranyun! I never liked the Xiao Clan even for a bit. Sigh. I wonder if the one scheming Shenglin’s accident is that “great Uncle” or someone else? Did Shenglin actually still hiding something that he accidentally heard as a child… like the evidence for the culprit that kidnapped Mumu?
