The wife is coquettish.

Shan Xing murmured, “This…”
Shan Shu frowned as well, showing a strange expression.
Because no one rejoiced at his proposal, Meng Huan wondered, “What’s wrong?”
Shan Xing began, “That is… how to put it… this…”
Although Lin Bozhou’s eye illness was well known to every single person in court, outsiders never saw him whenever he lost his sight. Lin Bozhou found his blindness repulsive, so he never appeared in front of people during his episodes. During his occasional outing, he avoided everyone.
His arrogance made him unwilling to show disgrace and weakness in front of outsiders.
Yet Meng Huan asked him to go out to see the light show, where there would be lantern displays! The light show!! People, as far as the eye could see!!! Just think of how many people would see Lin Bozhou blind!
It finally dawned on Meng Huan. “I… I…”
He was immediately dispirited and sad as a wilted cabbage, unable to keep his lips from frowning.
“I… just thought that His Royal Highness only goes in circles between the compound and the royal palace usually, and now that he finally got himself a break, he should go out and look around more often instead of cooping up in the compound.”
Lin Bozhou, a 007 corporate slave, supported the compound and carried the court by himself. Meng Huan felt distressed for him while watching from the sidelines. He only wanted to take the man out for some fun and didn’t consider anything else. Now he was very upset with himself. “If that is the case, then nevermind.”
At these words, Lin Bozhou’s hands, which were originally clenched into fists in his sleeves, loosened, slightly relaxing his long and thin fingers at his side.
The softness and kindness to him in the youth’s voice—it was not that Meng Huan wanted to go see the light show—
Rather, Meng Huan wanted to go see the light show with him.
It was this person who thought he was too unhappy and worn out and tried to paint more color into his dark world.
There was a thick cocoon wrapped around Lin Bozhou’s heart, protecting him but at the same time suffocating and isolating him. Now there was a person standing outside his protective layers, gently knocking and asking, “Can you come out and play with me?”
Those hands were so soft and gentle that they seemed to be able to lead him out of his shell.
Silence.
No one spoke in the pavilion for a while.
Shan Xin knew that there was no way Lin Bozhou would leave the compound, but it also must be hard for him to refuse his wife directly, so he began to rack his brain. “Ah, actually, we can light lanterns in the compound as well. Besides, the physician also advised His Royal Highness to not wander around and get a peaceful rest. His Royal Highness wants to leave the compound too, but there’s no way—”
Next to him, Lin Bozhou’s voice rang out, “Yes.”
Shan Xing echoed, “Yes?!”
Yes, what yes?
Meng Huan shifted his gaze. “To see the light show?”
Lin Bozhou raised his head slightly. If his eyes weren’t covered with white gauze, Meng Huan would certainly be able to detect the quiet shimmer in those narrow, slightly squinted eyes.
He confirmed, “Yes, to see the light show.”
–
After Lin Bozhou said he would go, the servants rushed to prepare for the departure. The safety of the Prince Regent was their utmost priority, but the ideas of using a luxurious carriage and hundreds of attendants were shut down with a single placid order from him.
Few people have seen the Prince Regent’s face. When Lin Bozhou walked among the commoners, there wasn’t necessarily anyone who could recognize him, but if he were to take imperial guards out into the street, it would cause a large commotion.
To clear the scene and disperse the people in the street would make the common people’s lives very difficult. The light show would also become his alone.
That wouldn’t be any fun.
Occasionally, he also wanted to put aside his status as regent and just go out for a walk.

Meng Huan, who was a couple steps away, looked at him and quietly pursed his lips.
Why was Lin Bozhou willing to leave the compound?
Was it because of his proposal?
Meng Huan didn’t want to see Lin Bozhou being very uncomfortable with the world outside the compound, much less being seen and laughed at by others.
Meng Huan hoped that the man could be as comfortable as possible. After thinking about it, he said, “If Your Royal Highness doesn’t want to go, then let’s not go. You don’t need to be burdened because of me. We can see a light show at any time—”
“That’s not it.”
Lin Bozhou interrupted his words. In the past, during times when he was blind, he had been irritable and pessimistic. It was nearly impossible to catch a smile from his tight lips; there was only impatience, gloominess, and coldness.
Now, his tone seemed to be explaining something plainly and simply. “I want to go together with you.”
“…”
The cool breeze blew the white gauze around his ears as well as his hair, waving them back and forth gently. At this time, the many things weighing on his shoulders seemed to be lifted briefly.
Meng Huan’s heart was quiet for a while.
Followed by something thumping wildly, reverberating endlessly, and mixing with the heat and dryness of summer, becoming a sound in his ears that couldn’t be ignored.
He cracked his lips open and said, “Oh.”
Approaching the other person, he gently took hold of the bigger hand, rubbing against his fingers with his own as they interlocked.
“Then let’s go.”
–
A sea of fireworks and lantern light, every adorned oat bridge is welcomed.
As the sun slowly disappeared into the west mountains, the bright lights gradually appeared, forming a long river of flowing lights that circled the city. Lanterns of different shapes competed with each other to show their charm, which dazzled people’s vision.
Meng Huan walked along the street, gently holding Lin Bozhou’s hand, and looked around from time to time.
“Woah, this pastry looks yummy!”
“Mmm.”
“Woah, this jade looks so beautiful!”
“Mmm.”
“Woah, this porcelain bottle feels so smooth!”
“Mmm.”
As Meng Huan walked while babbling, Lin Bozhou followed and clenched his fingers. For a moment, he was disturbed due to the sudden influx of chaos and noise around him. He frowned and inevitably became irritable.
But the little hand he was holding was so soft. Instead of saying he held, it was more like he was being held, but the small hand also tried its best to use care to make him smile, seeming to grip tightly.
There were many stalls selling hot food along the road, as well as street food and candied pastries. Meng Huan bought one, turned back, and saw that Lin Bozhou had his eyebrows slightly furrowed with his eyes beneath the white gauze, looking like he was at a loss.
Lin Bozhou was born very handsome, and Meng Huan didn’t look that bad either. When the two of them stood side by side in the street and Lin Bozhou had white gauze covering his eyes, many passersby looked their way, with some that couldn’t resist commenting.
“What’s the matter?”
“Is he blind?”
“Shame, he is such a handsome gentleman as well.”
When Lin Bozhou heard these comments, his hand that was holding Meng Huan tightened slightly.
With the feeling of pressure enclosed around his fingers, Meng Huan, someone with social phobia, knew his husband took offense to those comments, so he summoned the courage to stare at the gossiping people and made a face at them, sending the message, ‘Looking at him is not allowed!’.
Then, he brought a meat pastry that he had taken a bite out of earlier towards Lin Bozhou’s lips. “Your Royal Highness, try it. It is super delicious.”
Lin Bozhou smelled the oily scent.
Except in a proper dining place, Lin Bozhou usually never ate after noon and never ate in front of people. He rejected the small hand and said, “Huan Huan, eat it yourself.”
Meng Huan’s voice immediately sounded aggrieved. He was hugely upset now; he was very dissatisfied now, and he was extremely angry now. “Why don’t you eat anything I give you?”
I’m willing to share the food I love to eat with you. Look at how deep my feelings are! Look at my genuine love for you! Look at how thoughtful my care is!
But Lin Bozhou would not eat it!
Outrageous!
Hearing that Meng Huan was angry to the point of stamping his feet, Lin Bozhou’s formerly tense heart relaxed as his lips mysteriously curved upward. “Huan Huan—”
Meng Huan leaned to his ear and whispered, “Try some; no one can recognize you. Don’t worry. Now that the sky is dark, it is even more difficult for them to see.”
There was only darkness in front of Lin Bozhou.
But at the same time, he could feel Meng Huan’s breath against his ear, soft and warm.
He smoothed his brows, and then the next moment, the smell of the meat pastry returned to the tip of his nose again. “Take a bite, just a bite. Even the tiniest bite is fine as well. Pretty please.”
His wife was acting coquettishly.
Lin Bozhou lowered his head, raised his sleeve politely, blocked other people’s eyes, and then… took a bite of the meat flat cake.
Meng Huan’s anticipating voice entered his ears. “Was it good? Was it good?”
Lin Bozhou hummed, “Very good.”
“Yes!” Meng Huan hurriedly stuffed the meat pastry into his mouth. “If you don’t want to eat it, then I will finish it.”
“…”
It sounded like he was afraid of Lin Bozhou taking his food.
Around was a cheerful crowd, noise filling the ears, and strangers brushing past, just like back then in Guzhou.
The passage of time seemed to have brought Lin Bozhou back to that snowy city.
It was the same kind of outing, the same buzz, but when he stood in the dark in the middle of the street, all he heard were questions and whispers.
—The Crown Prince is actually blind?
—If Guzhou is handed over to a blind Crown Prince, it will surely be doomed!
—Since he is blind, he shouldn’t be the Crown Prince.
“…”
It was only later that he learned it was the enchanting side concubine manipulating public opinion in hopes of having her son, Lin Chengxu, replace the current Crown Prince. Even so, from then on, Lin Bozhou hated the noise around him and became haughty and aloof in the eyes of others. He did what he thought was right and stopped associating himself with the crowd.
This time, Meng Huan brought him out without bringing up the trauma in his memories.
It actually felt quite pleasant.
After Meng Huan finished eating the meat flat cake, he turned around and saw that Lin Bozhou’s lip was smeared with some oil. It was barely visible, but Meng Huan was so close that he could see it.
“Husband, allow me to wipe it for you.”
“Hmm?” Right after Lin Bozhou made that sound, a pale thumb was placed on his lips as it gently rubbed it using its plump pad, causing a tickling sensation.
Meng Huan chirped, “All clean now.”
Only after he finished speaking did Lin Bozhou’s lips begin to feel the lingering heat.
Lin Bozhou frowned and realized belatedly that this was a busy street. The two of them were so intimate that they would be considered indecent and shameless in outsiders’ eyes.
Meng Huan was in a happy mood as he walked forward.
However, in Lin Bozhou’s mind, he oddly recalled his wife’s behavior in the carriage that day.
After that night in the bedchamber, Meng Huan had never taken the lead so enthusiastically. He simply sank into Lin Bozhou’s arms, all bashful and passive, and allowed Lin Bozhou to do as he pleased.
But now…
Meng Huan seemed to be behaving more boldly towards him.
Lin Bozhou’s lips curled gently as he held Meng Huan’s hand in the darkness and walked along in faith.
“Woah, the lights here are so beautiful!”
Meng Huan stopped at the most lively street in the capital and in front of a huge lantern, framed with bamboo and wood, with a bright light inside.
This street was particularly well-situated, winding alongside the river that had glowing lanterns floating across its entire surface. Following the rippling of the river, the inside of the pleasure boat glowed even brighter than daylight.
Meng Huan! Finally! Experienced! A life of luxury! In ancient times!
“It is really so beautiful~~”
His tone was cheery, and his eyes were bright as he tilted his pale face up with a warm smile.
Next to him, Lin Bozhou seemed to chuckle again.
…His wife’s list of adjectives was utterly lacking.
Then Meng Huan suddenly remembered something. He turned around and showed a regretful expression. “It is a pity that husband cannot see it.”
“…”
There was a moment of silence.
Lin Bozhou’s response was very soft.
“I can see it.”
Meng Huan’s joy had already been fully transmitted to him.
The duo stood side by side under the huge lantern light in the bustling atmosphere, with their shoulders touching. Dazed, Meng Huan turned his head when he heard that. What he saw was Lin Bozhou lowering his head, his handsome face shaded with a warm orange glow and shadow from the lights.
Lin Bozhou was not looking at the lantern lights; he was looking at him.
At this moment, the sound of Meng Huan’s heartbeat continued to rise.
Reverberating across the sky.
They stayed silent for a long time before other voices became clear.
“Dear guests.”
It was a waiter from the decorated pleasure boat, trying to attract customers.
Beaming, he asked, “The fireworks over the Jin River are about to start. Would the two guests like to come up for a few drinks while waiting for the show?”
The author has something to say:
Yay! Time for a few drinks! Just a few! A few! (No other implications, cough)

Also, to be honest, when I typoed meat pastry to meat stick just now, my heart dropped…
romance is so real…
This chapter warmed my desolate soul 😳 This felt like a months worth of dog food!
Thank you so much for the update!!
They are so cute together. It’s nice to see, that beyond physical compability, they are also developing real feelings towards eachother
Meng Huan is so sweet 😭
I LOVED the translator notes. I always read them. ALWAYS.
Personally I like when the translation of idioms keeps the original language instead of replacing with the western English version. So I prefer 007 instead of 24/7. It keeps the flavour of the culture it’s written in.
Some of the writing is just so romantic in this chapter.
It really depends on the idiom and the context for me. If there’s an English that make sense and don’t break the flow, I’ll use it, but add a translator note as an Easter Egg (unless it’s like a very common/ obvious one). But if the Chinese idiom is so unique and is related to the context, 9/10, I’ll keep it. 007 was completely new to me, I do know about 886 tho (working 8am to 8pm, 6 days a week).
soo much details note, thats helps a lot, thank you for chapter now i already can’t wait for next chapter i hope it will come soon🌸😍 🐢
Lin bozhou definitely deserves this little break from his very much busy court life! Huan huan is the light of his life for sure~
Aww…Lin Bozhou is fully engaged in the experience since he realized that what his wife wanted was to share it with him. He seems genuinely enchanted with Meng Huan adorable traits. So precious! I absolutely will get sidetracked from it by getting anxious about a blind man getting into a boat and then trying to get back out after drinking.
It was so fresh, so recovering, I just love it
Thank you for your translation ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank You for the new chapter ♡╰(⸝⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝⸝)╯♡
They’re going around like two cute mandarin ducks, so cute
This was so wholesome and cute ❤️ thank you for the chapter!
Yeah, just a few drinks, no harm in that 😏
Thanks for the chapter!
“Lin Bozhou’s lips curled gently as he held Meng Huan’s hand in the darkness and walked along in faith.”
I can’t help thinking about the relationship dynamics in the original novel. It may have been intellectually stimulating and fiery in bed, but I wonder if Lin Bozhou was ever able to fully trust OG Meng Huan to care for him in his vulnerable moments?
(I’m also a reader who loves the prolific translator notes!)
I always read every single footnote. Even if they’re longer than the chapter itself. I.just.love.em
Thanks for the translation’s quality (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)
Is no one talking about the author’s note ???
Meat stick, bro the whole chapter would have a very different meaning.
