“Aren’t you going to introduce me?”
“Why are you here?”
“Is that a way to treat your mother?”
Standing in the doorway was Aida Lyman, previously Anders, his mother. Although she was pushing 40, she still looked like a young looking woman. This beautiful omega woman had jet black hair that was pulled back into a tight ponytail, not a single strand out of order. Her features were very similar to Kloh’s. She had the same deep brown eyes but hers was cold and uninviting. Her thin lips were drawn into a small smile. Her makeup was done very lightly but Kloh knew she probably spent hours perfecting the look. She was dressed in an elegant outfit. A navy shirt, navy blazer, white blouse, nude stockings and navy heels. In one manicured hand was a matching navy purse that was slightly open. She stood in the doorway of the house as she looked up at Kloh. Her shoes brought her to 5’5″ from her usual 5’2″. Kloh hadn’t seen her since graduation, which was 4 months ago. Not that either of them made the effort to see each other anyway.
“Again, why are you here?” Kloh asked as he crossed his arms and leaned against the door frame.
He actively blocked her entrance to the house. His leaning stopped her from seeing past him, further into the house. She frowned at him, her face still had this stiff doll look.
“This is my parents house. I have a right to be here.” She calmly told him.
“Wrong. You have no right to be here. How can I help you?” He replied with an equally calm look.
“Well. Can I atleast come in?”
Kloh thought about it. Dex was still asleep upstairs. He didn’t believe the conversation would last long enough to disrupt Dex. But he also didn’t want to bring her negative energy into the home. Dex had just finished off his cycle and was in the Recovery Phase. In the Recovery Phase, he would need the space to sleep and just feel normal again. It was only Sunday, day 2 into recovery, and he had only just convinced Dex to not go into the lab to as he said ‘catch up on what he’s missed’. He didn’t want her in the house but he also was a gentleman. And his better nature wouldn’t leave her standing in the cold.
“Fine. We can go into the foyer.” He shuffled back a short distance, just enough for her to get into the foyer and not further in.
She narrowed her eyes at his obvious movement and huffed. She shuffled inside and made her way to the foyer. Aida looked around the room and picked the only normal looking chair to sit on. Kloh closed and locked the door before making his way inside. Rather than sitting, he leaned against the wall directly across from his mother.
“Again I ask, why are you here?” Kloh repeated as he stared at her.
“Well I’ve tried calling you. And I don’t know where you live now. Checking if you were here was honestly the last resort.”
“And why were you looking for me?”
“If I say I just wanted to see you, would you believe me?” She did a little head tilt.
Kloh paused then laughed. Loudly. Aida frowned. He shook his head and remembered that he had to be quiet. He put a hand over his mouth to muffle his laugh. It took a minute but he got himself under control.
“Is that so funny?” She unhappily asked.
“Quiet funny actually. Okay. Seriously though, what do you want?”
“Well, if you must know, your mother, if you still remember who I am, is currently being accosted by the government in regards to drugs of all things.” Her voice tilted into that faux accent she somehow got when she was annoyed or angry.
“Accosted by the government?” Kloh raised his brow at her.
“Yes accosted. And I’m not the only one. You wonderful Doctor Denver Chase is also being accosted. And he’s in no shape to be bothered by the government over pills or prescriptions.”
“Pills that affected my health.”
“So you are aware of this situation? And didn’t see fit to mention it to me?”
“I have no obligation to you. The same way you have none to me. Isn’t that what you said after I graduated?”
He stared at her. She cleared her throat and averted her gaze ever so slightly.
“Well things change. Since it’s your issue, take responsibility.”
“My issue? You’re the one who brought me to this doctor. Do you even know what those pills did? What they were for?” He straightened up and glared at her.
Aida glanced back at him.
“He said they were for hormone regulation. For your lack of development.”
“And that was all it was for? Nothing more?”
“Nothing more.” Kloh saw a twitch and as he zeroed in on that, he knew. At that moment he knew she was lying.
“Liar.” He practically hissed the word at her.
“Kloh!” She scoffed as if offended by the word itself rather than the implication behind it.
“Did you know that I’m an alpha mother?” Kloh suddenly announced.
“That can’t be true. You’re an omega.” She shook her head, completely denying his words.
Kloh laughed, a faint pinch of anger peeking into his voice.

Aida cleared her throat. She sat back in her seat, unaware that she had even moved forward. She straightened out her skirt and put the purse into her lap. She took a breath and as if she reset her brain, she returned to that calm look she had when she first walked in.
“I will not debate this with you.”
“Good because there’s nothing to debate.”
“I will not dignify that with a response. If they come to speak with you again, you tell them that the good doctor has nothing to do with the drug thing.”
“I stopped taking my medication.” He abruptly added.
She paused. A look of horror flashed across her face. It quickly turned to normal.
“You need that medication.”
“Well the only person capable of prescribing is a comatose state. Plus even if he did renew it, I have no reason to take it. I’ve been to a real doctor and not a quack like him.”
“Watch your mouth. Dr. Chase is a good man. He’s been taking care of you since you’ve been a child. Have some respect.” She snapped then sighed and tried to collect herself again.
“No. I’m sure he has everything to do with the drug thing. And I’ll tell them exactly that.” Kloh cleared his throat and leaned back against the wall.
“You will not!”
“I absolutely will.”
“Kloh Lyman!”
“Anders. My name is Kloh Anders.”
“Your name is Kloh Lyman. I named you and that’s what I’ll call you.”
“You also gave birth to me and still abandoned so I don’t really give a fuck.”
“Kloh!” She stood and took a step towards him.
“I would like for you to leave now.” Kloh calmly replied and pushed off the wall, heading to the front door.
“Kloh, listen to me.” She walked behind him.
“Screw you!”
“Kloh?” Dex’s voice filtered through the conversation.
They both paused. Aida looked at him. He looked at her. Dex called out again from the second floor. His voice echoed down the stairs. Kloh saw him stop at the top of the staircase. Dex was rubbing his sleep filled eyes. He had one of Kloh’s baggy sweatshirts with very short black shorts on. Only the bottom seams of the shorts could be seen from under the long sweatshirt. His long legs glistened a little in the hallway light. In one arm he had Kloh’s pillow clutched to him.
“You have a guest?” Aida asked, looking up the staircase to where Dex stood.
Aida gave Dex a once over. Kloh immediately moved in front of her to black her view.
“Dex baby, go to the room please.” Kloh called back while actively blocking her view.
Aida glared at him and tried to look around him. Kloh glared back at her.
“Why are you hiding him for me? Who is that?” She asked.
“None of your business. Now please leave.”
“Kloh? Who is that?” Dex yawned a bit.
“Kloh. Did you finally find an alpha for yourself?” Aida asked, her voice perking up.
The anger and frustration in her face changed into what looked to be excitement. Kloh scoffed. Did she not recall calling alphas disgusting? Aida only caught a glimpse of a tall man standing at the top of the staircase. From the quick view she had he could tell the person was tall and pretty handsome.
“Don’t you hate alphas?” Kloh rolled his eyes.
“Most not all. If my dear omega son has found a wonderful alpha then I can only accept him.” She gave him what he could describe as what could be presumed to be a motherly smile.
Kloh grimaced and shivered in disgust at the poor excuse of a smile.
“Well your alpha son has a wonderful omega boyfriend.”
Aida glared at him.
“Stop that.” She accosted him, annoyed with this line of speaking. “You’re an omega.”
“You’re literally insane.” Kloh sighed heavily.
“Don’t talk about your mother like that.”
“You’re a mother in name, not in practice. I’ll say what I want.”
“Kloh!” She scolded.
Kloh rolled his eyes.
“Kloh?” Dex started walking down the stairs.
“Baby, please wait upstairs for me.”
The footsteps paused.
“You okay?”
“Yeah I just need a moment, okay?”
“Okay.” Dex blinked as his vision cleared up a bit more.
He could only see the Kloh’s back at the bottom of the stairs. He was vaguely aware that someone was there and that they were speaking. He didn’t recognize the person’s voice but he could hear the anger in Kloh’s voice. Dex stopped for a second before sitting on the step and waiting for Kloh to be done.
“Well if you’re going to act like this I’ll just go. I know where I’m not wanted. When you’re ready to introduce me to your alpha you know where to find me.”
“Once again, he’s an omega. I’m an alpha. And you’re delusional. Please leave. Good bye.”
Kloh turned her around and pushed her to the door. She constantly kept looking back to try and catch a better look at Dex. Kloh unlocked the door and all but pushed her out. Aida caught herself and glared at Kloh. Then she stood up and fixed her clothes. She put her purse strap on and looked up at Kloh.
“Well then. I’ll be in contact. I suggest you answer my calls if you don’t want me to show up more often.”
“I’ll take you off the block list.” He gave her a fake smile.
Her face scrunched up a little. A flicker of annoyance then it went back to normal.
“Goodnight Kloh, we’ll talk later.” Aida said.
She turned and started to leave then stopped. She turned back and came back to stand in front of Kloh.
“Goodnight Kloh’s boyfriend. He doesn’t want to introduce me but I’m his mother. Let’s meet soon.”
Kloh’s eyes went wide and he quickly closed the door. Aida’s way too similar laugh filtered through the doorway as he locked the door. Dex was sitting down on the steps. Kloh leaned against the door and looked up at his friend leaning into his pillow. His emotions were in a spiral as he tried to process everything that happened. Why the hell did she do that? What did she gain for this? Kloh thought of the look she made. She knew? She knew. She had to know.
“Kloh?” Dex called out to him.
Kloh came out of his head and looked at his precious mate. Dex blinked down at him with sleepy eyes looking adorable and innocent. Kloh relaxed a little and some of the chaotic emotion left him. He locked the door and went up the stairs.
“Hello beautiful. You awake?” Kloh softly asked as he came to a stop in front of Dex.
“Barely.” Dex mumbled a response and lightly tipped forward, pressing his forehead on Kloh’s abdomen.
“Wanna go back upstairs?” He asked as he rubbed Dex’s head.
“No, I’m hungry.” Dex rubbed Kloh’s abdomen with his head.
“Then let’s eat. Pizza?”
“Okay.”
Kloh took a step down and took Dex’s hand. He helped the man stand and together went down the stairs. They walked together into the kitchen. Kloh sat the still drowsy Dex at the island and heated up some of the leftover pizza from the day before. Dex leaned forward and placed his head on the countertop to watch Kloh move around. He enjoyed watching Kloh work or do just about anything actually. Kloh always looked good when he did anything. Dex happily watched him move around the kitchen.
“Wanna eat here or in the living room?” Kloh asked as he pulled out the Sprite and two cups.
“Living room.” Dex yawned again and took the plates to the living room.
He placed the plate down then sunk into the couch. He literally sunk into the couch. Dex pulled the throw blanket over his legs, pillow still clutched to his chest. Kloh smiled at the image. He could see Dex taking small sniffs of the pillow. Although the heat had ended, the effects of the pheromone addiction was still pretty strong. Yesterday morning Kloh had gone to the store and when he came back Dex had created a nest of Kloh’s clothes. When Kloh saw him, Dex was in the middle of the nest sleeping peacefully. Kloh’s heart nearly gave out from the overload of cuteness. He sneakily took a picture which was now his phone home screen.
Kloh joined him. They ate and drank in a comfortable silence. Kloh picked up the remote and flicked on the TV. He found a Pirates of the Caribbean marathon and put the volume at a low level.
“Who was that? Earlier?” Dex asked after he finished eating.
“Earlier? Oh yes. That was my mother.” Kloh replied as he put the cups down on the table.
He held out his arms and Dex scooted over to lay comfortably in Kloh’s arms. Kloh laid partially back as Dex laid down, head against Kloh’s chest, laying between Kloh’s legs. One of Kloh’s arms wrapped his shoulder. His free hand stroked Dex’s face. Dex took a deep breath of Kloh’s scent. He hummed happily and rubbed his face again.
“Why was she here?” Dex muttered absentmindedly.
“Her usual bullshit.”
Earlier that week although Kloh had given him the option to ask anything they hadn’t really talked about his mother. They hadn’t gotten to talk much though. Dex had asked some random questions before he got tired and fell asleep. Honestly Kloh was quite concerned by how tired Dex was. But after an online search he discovered that it was a reaction to the temporary mark. The combination of the various inhibitors running through him had finally worked set in after the mark was given. Which resulted in the decrease in sex drive and tiredness. Kloh had only relaxed after reading that information several times and confirming that it was real. His inner panic had calmed down and he could finally relax.
“Did she want something?” Dex asked as they watched the screen.
“She wanted me to get Dr.Yves to leave her and the good doctor alone. Then I told her that I was an alpha which she kind of just glossed over and blatantly denied. The best part was that she practically admitted that she was extremely aware of what those pills were for.” Kloh summarized.
“Interesting.”
“Yeah, interesting.”
“Wait! She knew what the pills were for?” Dex’s head popped up for a second.
“She didn’t admit it outright but she basically said so.” Kloh then recapped the full conversation.
“Wow.” Dex blinked, surprised and unsure of how to react.
“Yeah.” Kloh pinched his cheek lightly.
“How do you feel?” Dex asked as he laid his back down, shielding his face from Kloh’s pinching claws.
“Not really sure. The same as I always feel once I finish talking to her.”
“Which is?”
“Tired.”
Dex patted his stomach. He pressed a kiss on Kloh’s chest. Then he rubbed his face against Kloh comfortingly. Kloh smiled and stroked Dex’s face. Although he didn’t say anything, Kloh felt the warmth from his actions. He couldn’t help but smile at his adorable omega.
“Thanks.”
Dex didn’t say anything and patted him again. They laid there quietly not thinking much but rather enjoying each other’s company. They had school and midterms this week. Plus the semester was picking up. More projects were given. More tasks were given. Midterms coming up meant that they’d be able to gauge how well they’ve done so far. While Kloh was sure he did okay, the pressure was still building. Kloh could name several things on his to-do list. He still hadn’t checked his email for the notes and homework that he had missed. But he could push the thoughts back into his mind and instead focused on Dex’s soft hair.
“Don’t stress. Everything will be fine.”
“As long as you’re with me.”
“That’s corny.” Dex laughed and pinched him.
“Only for you babe. Only for you.”
“Ew.”
“You love it.”
Dex laughed and pinched him again. They laughed and joked a bit more. They actually ended up getting engrossed in the movie and they just forgot everything and just enjoyed each other.
