Translator's Note

太素剑 taisu jian – The most relevant definition of “taisu” equates it to “the most primitive material” in ancient times. The daoist text of Zhuangzi: Heaven and Earth says that the universe went through four stages of evolution before the formation of Heaven and Earth: taiyi, taichu, taishi, and taisu. Taisu is the fourth stage, which is the “process of evolution from nothingness; the stage of concrete things.” It consists of the “undivided nature of heaven and earth and the chaos of all things.”

Translator's Note

语冰剑 yubing jian – “Frostverse” is the literal translation of 语 yu (language) and 冰 bing (ice). However, 语冰 yubing itself is part of an excerpt from the Daoist Zhuangzi’s “Autumn Floods.”  The specific line is 夏虫不可以语於冰者,笃於时也 xiachong bu keyi yu yubin zhe, du yu shi ye, or “You cannot speak of ice to a summer insect, which is limited by its short life.” To speak of 语冰 yubing is to say that “knowledge is limited by time and place.” Bonus: The 夏 xia in 夏虫 xiachong (summer insect) is the same character found Xia Zhiqi’s name. (Translator’s Note: In other words, Gallant Outlaw’s a freakin’ nerd giving his weapons such deep names.)

Translator's Note

凌空 lingkong – To rise into the air, to be high in the sky; aloft.

Translator's Note

破雷 po lei, where “po” is to “break through/strike” and lei is “thunder.” By the way, don’t confuse his épée for the French fencing sword, it’s actually the Chinese 重剑 zhongjian which is basically a flat sword made out of one slab of metal. Pic examples here:

Translator's Note

碧色 – bi se This is the same character found in Xie Zhiwei’s title as 碧虚真人 “Bixu zhenren.” Although 碧虚 bixu means “azure sky,” the word 碧 can mean either blue, green, or blue-green, and is often a synonym for jade. So another translation for Bixu zhenren could be “Jade zhenren.” Most likely the name was inspired by the Qingping Sword and its jade-color light when attacking.

Translator's Note

合十 – This is basically a namaste, but in Chinese.

  3. XZW is so OP what the hell the real mystery here is how the original host managed to get killed off so early. Like I knew he was strong but this is ridiculous. Gallant seriously used someone this strong for a white moonlight set up lol.
