Don’t be fooled by the title, it’s full of drama, tears, deaths, dogblood, misunderstandings, etc. A unique part of it is that while the disciple loves his master to the point of obsession, the final pairing in the book is actually the master x the disciple’s disciple (thus the ‘grandmaster’ in the title). To be honest, the disciple’s disciple could’ve been the master’s second disciple, but the original disciple was too jealous and insisted on taking his new ‘junior brother’ as his own disciple instead to keep him away from his master.

  4. Ahhh this was such a good read!! Thank you for translating!! This was such a ride,its like i stepped into the car willingly but then the driver went past the speed limit and crashed through four houses, sent me to the hospital, then kissed me on the forehead. Wood box is the scrunkly ever..♡♡

  6. I have so many thoughts about this novel. I really didn’t like Mu He in the middle – some of the things he did wasn’t much better than Ming Kong…and there was too many manipulating tears on his part even near the end. But overall I really enjoyed the characters and found their reactions for the most part logical. Standout is of course our girl mengmeng. She truly is the best female character in a danmei. The end of the first and third Arc was fantastic – super griping and exciting. Thank goodness for the extra as we really needed some sugar after all that abuse. All in all, this was a novel that I’ll be remembering.

    Ruyi you’ve really done a fantastic job with the translations and I can’t thank you enough for your hard work and dedication! (I mean, 1+ chapters a day is incredible!) I’ll be stalking you on your next protect too. 😛

  9. I’ll probably sound harsh, but I always strongly criticize the novels I’ve hoped for. And I had huge expectations here :< The beginning of the novel was going to be great, we get a quite bitter actor who was suddenly thrown into the world of the novel, the adaptation of which he avoided like fire, on the other hand, a resurrected badass pretending to be an innocent child o(≧∇≦o) The plot thickened with each chapter and was extremely addictive! Unfortunately, the novel started to deteriorate after the first death of our XZW… There was quite a lot of chaos, especially in the relations between our MCs, and it was the main point – a heavy weight – of the other half of novel :< That was the biggest problem. Unfortunately, MH disappointed me a lot. I could understand him at first, he was betrayed and badly hurt, so the figure of a good shizun was for him like a lighthouse in a sea of chaotic thoughts and unbalanced emotions. So it’s no wonder that an obsession with XZW grows within his heart. Yes, an obsession that only grew stronger with time o(≧□≦)o I couldn’t sense love from him, only obsession and lust directed at XZW. I was disgusted with how he treated his shizun and the fact that he thought it was an illusion does not justify him! ૮( ᵒ̌▱๋ᵒ̌ )ა Instead of fighting, he gave up and got carried away by madness, treating the world and everyone around him horribly <(｀^´)> I was disappointed when the author completely blowed it off, because we have to rush with the plot and she was not able to get out of the whole traumatic situation, so she decided to pretend that it was not there 눈_눈 I couldn’t sense the love between our main characters, their relationship became extremely strange and the author wasn’t able to make me believe that XZW loved MH, or that MH really loved XZW and not his body or his ideal picture in MH’s imagination （▽д▽） It did not allow me to fully enjoy this novel. On the other hand, we had a whole lot of interesting, very distinctive characters throughout the story ( ≧◇≦ )/I was interested in their fate and thoughts, so it was mainly them and interesting situations and ‘threads’ that kept me with this title. Until now, I cry for my dear daughter! TT^TT I am sure that I had a lot more to say, but all in all, a lot of bitterness has gone from me over time, and I am writing a comment while watching a volleyball match, so I have a bit of chaotic thoughts XDD Most important!!     I’m honestly content with how the story goes and ended.

    Sure there was Rage and Great Sadness. The story of Shen You… The death of Mengmeng.

    But the Character Growth in MC was sooo Goood. How he finally feel things toward this New world. It was Emotional.

    How he know he would still die but chose the Option 3 because he won’t let ML die!!! Because he love him !!!

    The Plot Twist was mind-blowing.

    So much dog blood. But I don’t regret reading this.

    Took me 2 days reading this. And glad it didnt make me bored. Though it greatly makes me Emotional mess.

XZW letting people who wronged him go freely (one ex; the Bai father-son) because his Generous heart, the Rebirth MH would end up also Look down on him. Different from our XZ who will try to find Loop Hole our use Loop hole if there’s any to destroy the Evil villains.

    But this is only One-side view of me who haven’t read OG!Xzw novel in modern theme. So I really wonder what his true full personality. Like how I wonder if He Zheng is as horrible as XZ said.

    … quite an experience. At first, the MC has an unlikable character that I cannot help but swear from time to time but I was looking forward to the character development and it was epic!

    I felt bad for the gong yet at the same time, I felt he was going too far (forcing MC is an example) but in the end, it turned out ok and that’s great. I also felt bad for the MC (Gong did him without consent and obtained a psychological shadow from it) but it worked out in the end and they’re happy and I’m just happy for them as well.

    This novel was full of ups and downs and I agree with the translator and some of the comments that said, the middle part was messy. I felt that the author is dragging it on for too long. It’s making me impatient and sad because of the angst. I especially felt it when we were looking forward to MC rev ealing his identity when he was disguised as Chi Yan. The amount of relief and “FINALLY!!!” that I felt was just… Ugh. Glad that was over.

    This novel made me feel tired from the angst and I agree with the other readers that beg the author for sugar because DAMN! there’s too much angst you need to balance it out author! Almost made me drop it but I wanted to know the ending so I persevered and I’m glad I did. The ending was nice.

    I usually read sweet fluffy stories and this is one of the few novels I read that was angsty. The plot twists are like… Wow, there are a lot of them but I’m glad the MC and Gong managed to get through them. Not everyone is happy, there were losses (Poor MengMeng!) But I’m glad they’re all living their life after all the disasters they went through.

    In any case, I had fun reading it. I’m curious about He Zheng’s deal though. Like what’s up? I also want to read the sister novel but I checked and unfortunately, it’s not completely translated so I’ll have to wait for a few years if someone is gonna translate it to completion and whatnot. (If I could still remember it by then).

    • I have a recommendation. It’s called “How to Survive as a Villain”. This is completed and translated on foxaholic.

      This is the synopsis on novelupdates:

      This is indeed miserable, and sad.

      It’s also full of angst but it’s comedy and sweet and its HE! In here the Gong got to know from early on that the shou transmigrated (Isn’t that interesting? Like how often does that happen in transmigration books? Not often!)

      The body that shou transmigrated was the body of the Gong’s enemy (You already it’s gonna be angst from this. Enemies to lover readers should read this) So there were a lot of conflicts, plot twists, court dramas and all the characters are fleshed out and very complex. You understand their reasons for their actions and you can’t completely hate them for it. Even the villains btw. (Well maybe some but not much)

      This one got a manhua btw! I haven’t read the manhua yet but I will when I felt like it.

      So yeah, I just wanted to recommend. If you like this novel, I really really REALLY recommend How to Survive as a Villain. It’s a GEM! A MASTERPIECE! (In my opinion)

      I suggest you read it ’till the end and you will not be disappointed. There’s also an extra where the gong went to shou’s world in an alternate universe and lots more. It’s very interesting.

      currently i have no plans to pick up the sister novel, because i’m a translator who really likes ancient series (both in dramas and webnovels) and gets bored with translating modern settings! if i really picked it up, there’s a strong chance i’ll get bored midway and either drop the novel or not update it for months, which would be unfair/frustrating to readers or other TLers genuinely interested in the work. i hope you understand! ^-^

And yeah, in my opinion, so far Too Bad Master Died Early is better than the modern one, so it’s okay even it’s not picked up by a translator.   34. The translation quality was good, so I ended up reading it all, and the ending was surprisingly alright. There was nothing surprising, but it felt like the writing got a bit better? At least the two main characters stopped angering me to death.

    I’d still rather have seen Mengmeng come back to life than the main couple, but oh well… At least her spirit seemed at peace. Plus, she literally helped save the world (from getting deleted by the system) so hopefully she’s got enough meritorious deeds to get reborn and live a good life next time.

I hated the rape, as cute as they are I find it hard to believe mc got over something like that so quickly, the noncon had been bad in itself but the rape scene really makes me watch their romantic scenes with a heavy burden and I feel like I can’t enjoy it to the fullest. Regardless I did like the story in of itself, it was fun and I was very engrossed.
